200.4 and a new bra

Ah the simple things. Today I stepped on the scale to see 200.4. I've been trying not to think about the big milestone of being under 200, but it definately brought a smile to my face. Once I hit 199 that will mark 25 pounds lost. I'm just trying to keep up my pace, but not obsess over it.

The thing I was actually more excited about is last night we stopped at the mall. I thought it would be a good time to see if I could find a new sports bra. Mine is only keeping things in check because the strapps are safety pined much smaller than the bra normally would allow. So, I picked a few out and then on my way to the dressing room I noticed a clearance rack of cute bras. Can't remember the last time I had a cute bra. I've been more in the category of therapeutic grandma-style over the shoulder boulder holders. But I thought what the heck and picked a few cute ones to try on. I've lost about 2 1/2 inches at the chest so I wasn't sure what size, so I picked a few. Turns out, I've gone from busting out of a 42 DD to fiting very nicely in a 38D -- and it was on clearance so it only cost $7!!! When I showed my husband my new purchase he thought it was nice that I invested in a modern style bra. Out of the dark ages we are...now if I could just figure out how to get out of this darn chastity belt.

 This just made me giggle to myself. And it's funny because I know exactly what you mean. Except I still can't find "cute" ones in my size. I can find cute colors now...that's about it! Congrats on finding a good deal and a cute trendy bra that's not a granny bra! :drinker:

Congrats! I could probably stand to invest in a couple new bras too! I am noticing that sport bras that I was busting out of have gotten loose on me.We actually have some other things in common too. We are the same age and we started out at the same weight. I haven't weighed in for almost a week and hope I'm a little closer to being where you are. To be in the hundreds again-there will definitely be a smile on my face that day.

Way to go! I think Victoria's secret is having their semi annual sale soon too. I think you deserve a few of those as well :0)

lt_mrcook - Thanks for the torch advice.

Vallandingham - No panty shots, but I keep teasing my co-workers that one day this summer I'm strolling in the office wearing a bikini -- that may be captured on film!

WrenLynn - Even if you resist bying new clothes, get just one new bra. I also intuitively went to the plus section to find out they don't have anything for me. That made me want to wait a little longer to buy new clothes. Now that it's skirt season I don't have to worry about the baggy britches.

The Victoria's Secret semi-annual sale takes place in January and July.

I recently went from a 40DD to a 38D and was able to buy a few cute bras. I also used to have the flesh colored granny bras that I hated. Now, I have a cute black one, a pink one and a lacy beige one!

If any of you ladies have a Bally outlet store near you, I'd highly recommend going there since they'll do free measuring and I got three cute bras for less than $40!

Now I want to go shopping for cute sports bras since mine is too big now! Yikes!

First of all, congratulations! Hitting that 200 lb marker, with 25lbs lost is a wonderful accomplishment.

And, I'm sorry to anyone who has already read my rants on bras, but here it goes again...

When you get to your goal size, or even before if you have some extra cash, please do yourself a favor and go get a proper bra fitting. I'm not talking about going to a department store or even VS where they measure you with a soft tape. I'm talking about an actual lingerie store that specializes in bra fitting, it's much different than measuring. Their bras may be a little more expensive, ranging from maybe $35 up to $100+ for the top of the line, but it is so worth it. Even if you just get fit correctly, and buy maybe one specialty bra, you can then take that knowledge to any other store and use it there. Or even purchase online when you find deals.

For instance, I measured multiple times, even was "professionally" measured, and kept coming up with a 38D or maybe a 38DD, sometimes even a 40D. I went and got a fitting at a local, independent specialty lingerie store. I was actually a 36FF! Since I've started wearing properly fit bras, my torso looks slimmer, the girls look perkier, I no longer have that horrid back-fat, the straps don't dig or slip off, and I'm not constantly readjusting the band in the back, or trying to push the wires in the center closer to my chest wall.

As I've lost, I've gone down to a 34F, and I expect that by the end I will probably be a 34DDD. And guess what, most fine bra companies make absolutely beautiful pieces in band sizes up to 54 and cup sizes to K or even larger. There are even sports bras, nursing bras, and swimsuits made in proper cup sizes.

Spend the time and invest the money, you are worth it and I promise that you won't be disappointed.

To find a store near you check Yelp.com, the phone book, a Google search, or http://www.myintimacy.com/findastore.html (using the "Find a Bra Fitting Location Near You" box on the right of the screen). While I don't purchase from Intimacy because I find their prices to be outrageous, they will recommend a few other stores in your area that might work.

Good luck to the OP on your continued success.

themethod - thanks for the tip. I was wondering how to go about getting properly measured. Having had 2 kids in the last six years, nursing, changing weights and all that goes with it I've been thinking that at some point I will need to have help from someone who knows what they're talking about. Hope you don't take this wrong, but from your pic a properly fit bra makes a big difference! You look great!

I'm all for a granny bra and panty torch party. My husband suggested me getting new undies a few weeks back cause mine were so loose they were darn near falling off.

themethod: I just checked out the website you suggested and I live in the only state that isn't included in their list (Minnesota) for free bra fittings. Darn it, anyway! I'll do some more searching for something in the Twin Cities. Thanks for the tips, though!

Congrats!!! I too just went bra shopping. I've been wearing Just My Size bras in a 44DD and was on my way to a 46 for 2 years now. I noticed over the past month that they just weren't cutting it anymore. This past weekend, I went and got fitted for a new bra and come to find out that I'm a 40DD !!!! I dropped this much weight in my chest just in the past 3 months! I actually got to pick out a couple of cute, flowery bras (no more boulder holder granny bras). It was a great day!

Oh, booooooo! The store I ended up going to wasn't on there either, but I'm sure you will be able to find one. It just might take a little longer! I wasn't getting married, but I believe that I Googled "bridal lingerie" and my city name and came up with quite a few independents that did fittings. The stores I like to shop at carry brands like Freya, Elomi, Lunaire, Alegro, Felina, Panache, Le Mystere, Va Bien, etc. in case they mention any bras in their ads.

I wonder if a plastic surgeon's office that does a lot of breast augmentation would know of a good place to recommend? (Just thinking out loud here.)

    Enjoy!

I agree. I have done the professional fitting before and they are much more knowledable. I use to go to Lane Bryant and they had me in a D and I went to a professional place and they said I really neede to be in an F.

Did you get fitted several times as you lost the weight or wait till you hit your goal? I'd hate to make the investment and have it be too big in a month.

Did you get fitted several times as you lost the weight or wait till you hit your goal? I'd hate to make the investment and have it be too big in a month.

I went in the first time I had my fitting at my heaviest. Then, not long after that I decided to start losing. So now I have all these bras that are too big for me. So, I compromised. I got myself only two sports bras and one everyday bra in my new, smaller size. And for the rest of the big bras, I got those gel inserts that some women use to increase their cup size, and I closed my bands on the tightest set of hook and eyes, and shortened the straps. I figure the inserts are a little filler, like shoulder pads.... except for boobs. Shhh! Don't tell!

My suggestion would be to go in and get one bra now that fits and is a "workhorse" bra that you can wear as an everyday bra. Then, as you start to lose, get some inserts to fill the cups. You can even take your bra to a seamstress to have her shorten the straps or the band. When you are at a comfortable place that you feel like you're not going to get significantly smaller, then get fit again and treat yourself to something beautiful. I agree that getting fit multiple times could leave you with several bras you can no longer wear, and an empty wallet.

BTW, the sports bras I got are expensive ($62), but they are a good buy if you're in the market because they can double as an everyday or t-shirt bra. They have adjustable straps that can be worn conventionally or criss-crossed and they have underwire with smooth, padded cups. They are made by Le Mystere and are called Energie. I believe they go from a 32B to a 40G. I've worn one to work twice this week!

    http://www.herroom.com/Le-Mystere-320-Energie-Sport-Bra.shtml

(Also, I'm sure if you search you'll find something of similar design that isn't quite so much $$$.)
