Nacho Cheese Doritos....serving size 1 oz. or about 11......count-em'......."11"......Chips!!!!!!! How I managed to never read the actual serving size on a food I've loved so long escapes me!! Tonight, being WAY below my typical calorie count, a "celebratory-but-surely-guilt-ridden" treat seemed in order. I decided to munch on a big bag of Doritos for the first time since beginning this quest. I popped one in my mouth, then another, then another. At some point I decided to read the entire nutrition label. Upon discovering that a serving of 1 oz. was "about" 11 chips, I promptly sat down the bag, then laughed....howled....at the absurdity!! 11? 11? WOW!! I've never eaten 11 of ANYTHING that small and delicious. Now, I've come to accept that in order to lose all this blubber encased body I've created, I have to eat sensible, so serving size has become very important to me. My Blue Bell "Homemade Vanilla" serving is 1/2 cup, and that reality was hard to stomach..(ie, empty feeling afterword), but I've traveled the "5 stages Of Grief" trail, and am now in acceptance for that one. But, 11 Doritos? Now, I know I could eat more than one serving, but now I have to carry the guilt of having eaten 4 or 6 or 8 serving sizes of Doritos......just so I can feel like I've actually eaten some Doritos?? I'm not sure I'd even remember eating 11. Well, guess I got much to learn. How bout' you out there......any serving sizes that you think funny, absurd, ridiculous??

When I make nachos, I am guilty of only choosing chips that are not broken for the sole purpose of getting as much out of the 14 chips as possible hahaha0

^ I do the exact same thing. Or if I can't find a whole one, I'll take little pieces that are the proper size to add up to one whole. Every morsel is precious! Lol.0

LOL That's probably how I'll be eating them in the future!!0

I do this too^^ Sometimes I throw in an extra chip and pretend I miscounted That's how crazy it makes you0 -
No doubt!! :laugh:0

Yep, that's why when I pack my lunch I count chips out into a baggie. Still, I'd probably have a hard time not eating 2 servings.. there isn't much "filling" about Doritos.0

Oh.... Blue Bell. That's one that really got me too. I just eat it out of the half cup measuring cup to make fewer dishes. I also use smaller utensils so it makes it feel like I'm getting more bites! lol0

You learned a valuable lesson by reading the label, so you should not feel guilty. Now, for another shock, read how much sodium you loaded! Ha, ha, that is one that really shocks me -- and I never eat (canned or restaurant) soup anymore; actually I stay away from all canned or processed food to the extent possible, due to shocking sodium content. As to being surprised by reading a nutritional label, I think the one that floored me was a wrapped cookie that I bought one time -- and found out that it was TWO servings. TWO!! For one cookie. Who ever ate half a cookie?0

Thanks for making me laugh. The serving size in just about anything that comes with serving size info was a huge surprise and quite disappointing to me. So I get you for sure.0

pop tarts....serving size is one tart? not one pack. How can i possibly leave that other one in there all alone? smh0

My bagel chips package says a serving size is 6 chips/15 g but 6 chips is usually closer to 30 grams. WTF??? I'm having my 6 chips!!!!
As a side note, I noticed that Doritos have the same calories and less fat per serving than sun chips, yes fewer chips but c'mon! I'll take the Doritos, thanks.0 -
LOL So funny, y'all!!0

I realize portion control is important but has anyone noticed that new "low cal" foods are the same product/recipe, but smaller portions? What used to serve 6, now serves 12, cutting the calorie count in half! LOL! I traditionally cook Betty Crocker Blueberry Muffins for breakfast Christmas morning and when I searched for the calorie count, I found several that were only 80 calories. I like the mix so I have it for an occasional treat. It's 180 cals per muffin according to the 12 muffin directions. After looking at the portion sizes, most people are logging at 24 muffins per mix box. I regurarly read recipes on MFP for low cal, delicious recipes. Most are just the same old recipes, with smaler portions.0

Bacon. 44 cals a slice.
McCormick gravy mix. Usually 20 cals a half cup.
Ranch dressing. 140 cals per tablespoon0 -

I hate to burst the 11 chip bubble...but that is not always accurate. Which is why I weigh out my precious 1 oz.0

LOL Isn't a tablespoon of anything ultimately just one bite?? It takes me much more than a tablespoon of dressing for even the smallest of salads. Incredible!!
