Does anyone tackle working out when you're ill?

Nope. I was sick all last week and didn't work out once. I still lost 3lbs. Your body is sick, give it a rest and take a break. You'll probably feel better faster than if you were to struggle through your workouts.0

I sit my *kitten* down on the couch and drink hot tea and watch cartoons.0
-
It depends, but when it comes to things such as the common cold or a sinus infection I tend to get better quicker if I actually do exercise. Of course I don't exercise as hard as I would if I wasn't sick, but I still exercise.0

No, I don't. If I'm sick, I'm sick. I don't mind skipping workout days to let my body heal. Then when I'm ready, I get right back to it once I'm better.0

I'm in the same boat right now... Took the weekend off for graduation, came down with the sinus infection from hell the first day all the family was gone. It's now been a week since I set foot in the gym. Still not feeling great, but I already bailed on my trainer once, so I am going to force it tomorrow! Good luck and feel better!0

Simple. Don't.0

Rest, lots of rest, penty of fluids. Do like Mom said. Mom didn't get to Mom status by being wrong,0

depends on what it is, if it's a cold/sore throat....then i would. If it's a headache, stomache pain, nausea then no.
Take a break, our body is a temple, it needs to be treated as such. You'll perform better if you do, and you'll recover faster
Good luck!0 -
I am sick at the moment and on antibiotics. I haven't been exercising.0

Unless i am throwing up or truly cannot pry myself out of bed, i work out. It may not be at my normal intensity but i never use it as a reason to not work out. Right now i am injured and i still do something everyday except my rest day, Wednesday.. For now its lots of stuff in the pool at my gym and upper body lifting. Not my norm for sure and nowhere near my acceptable intensity level, but... There are no excuses!0

Like most replies, I don't is the simple answer, just take it easy until feeling better. you do not need an excuse, a reason is you feel rotten0

I'm pretty sure she just had unprotected sex, then decided/couldn't be bothered to abort me.0 -

 Nice to feel wanted.0 -
I've had a head cold for a couple of days know, and have no intentions of working out until it subsides.0

I have been sick 2 times already this week. Food poisoning.....I still worked out. The only way anything is stopping me is death.0

Sometimes I find doing very light weights help, unless I am really ill. Also for me being sick I tend to want comfort food so keeping good healthy food in the house is also a good idea. If you have anything more than a slight fever stay in bed though!0

OMG you are my twin.0 -
With me it depends on how sick I am. I may walk on the treadmill on slow but forget the bouncing off the walls workout or weights. If I'm sick I tend to hurt all over and there is NO way I'm pushing it any harder than my body feels like going. I don't want to get worse! Push fluids and lots of rest. Pain meds and antibiotics as necessary.0

Take time to let your body heal, if you don't you might get worse not better. But, you can work out with the common cold (not flu) if you feel up to it.0

Lately, I have to admit that for the past few days I have not worked out... I currently have a bad upper respiratory infection... However, I had gone to the doctor's office on Tuesday and I am now a five day course of anti biotics...
For the past two days, I have been able to go to work... But because my job involves a great deal of walking, going to the gym would not be productive... In addition, my current job involves a great deal of heavy lifting... So, I do get a workout to a certain extent... Today, I am off from work because it is a regularly scheduled day off and I have an appointment to have my ICD checkout at the cardiologist's office...
I am hoping that I will be able to go back to working out on Friday...
The only good thing is that I have lost a little weight...
Sometimes, I have to admit that we all have to take a break...0 -

throwing up, bowel issues, or breathing issues that my nebulizer cannot handle--I stay home. Everything else, I drag myself in. Last week on my rest day I pulled my calf muscle BAD. It swelled up like a balloon and I went to the ER for xrays kinda bad...but the next day I hauled my booty into the gym on one crutch and did an upper body workout. I was able to ditch the crutches by Monday, but wasn't 100% yet...so I went and did another upper body workout, then did calf stretches in the hot tub. Finally 95% better, so looking forward to cardio and lifting tomorrow!0 -
I still exercise but at a lower intensity.
I'm a contractor, so don't get paid if I don't work. I apply the same attitude to training - if I can, I do.0 -
If above the neck (runny nose, funny ears) I still do yoga and will consider doing easy runs (weather dependant). If below the neck proper rest is the name of the game. If I call in sick to work exercise is also off.0

rest and sleep... The last thing we need is people getting us sick at the gym0
-
Thank you, almonds - if you are sick with anything contagious (colds, sinus infections, etc.) PLEASE don't go to the gym. It isn't fair to anyone else there.0
-
I stay at home and rest as it's not fair on other people as you could make them sick also0
-
I don't. I let my body rest and get better and then pick back up where I left off. No reason to overstress the body when it needs all the energy it can get to heal.0

There's a lot of supportive people in MFP.... As a retired teacher (40) years, I have some knowledge about kids who exercise when ill. Don't do it. Your heart rate is higher when you have a fever. The body speaks to you about NOT exercising. You need to heal. The rest, fluids , juices, home made chicken soup by Progresso... and a cuddly teddy bear while watching cartoons is a cure..... Or go to MFP where we will kick your butt if you exercise with a fever... just saying.0
