Does anyone have a low-calorie, semi-easy recipe for Almond Butter?

I keep reading on my news feed about how awesome it is, and I want to try it now!

Also, anyone have the general nutrition info for almond butter?

If you get almonds and put just them in a food processor for long enough (maybe 10-15 minutes depending on how powerful it is), the natural oils will come out and you will have almond butter! Then the nutrition would just be the same as almonds :)

No worries. It'll go powdery at first but just leave it in there and it will eventually become almond butter :)

I have a little tiny, puny food processor... but i think it might stroke out if i leave it running for 10-15 minutes. what should I do at that point?

The company "Justin's" makes awesome nut butters. They have raw almond butter (my favorite!) but honey almond butter and maple almond butter are also delicious with all natural ingredients!

It only takes about 5 minutes in the food processor if you roast them first. 10 minutes at 350F in the oven on a cookie sheet.

I've just got one of those really tiny mini ones (I think it has a dry capacity of 150ml) so (after we melted one and bought a new one :/) we just did it in bursts of about 2-3 minutes at a time. I've not tried roasting the nuts first; I will definitely give that a go!

Now I really wanna make my own Almond butter!

Do you use the almonds with the skin still on?

I don't have the patience to make it myself. Luckily my local grocery store carries a brand with Almonds being the ONLY ingredient. That is the key point.

Holy crap, you can make it yourself?! I've always bought an organic one from the supermarket (Woolies Macro brand in Australia) but I might try making my own in future because it's pretty $$$.

Low calorie? Why? Almond butter is high in calories and is healthy and filling. Just make small portions. My favourite nut butter is macadamia.

That smoothie recipe above looks pretty good. I make one similar for my child... less fruit and more FAT in the ones for me.

    Homemade Almond Butter
    INGREDIENTS:
    2 c. whole raw almonds
    1/2 t. salt (optional)

    DIRECTIONS:
Raw almond butter - Pour two ** cups of almonds into food processor. Pulse until small chunks. Turn on food processor full speed for 10- 15 minutes, checking after 10 for consistency. Scrape down sides with rubber spatula every 5 minutes or so. For more paste-like nut butter, stop at about 12-13 minutes, for creamier, oilier butter, keep going to 15 minutes.

. Roasted almond butter -Preheat oven to 350º. Place two cups of raw almonds in single layer on baking sheet. Roast in oven for 13-15 minutes or until golden brown and you can smell them. Process like above. Should take a few less minutes to process.

Store in jars or plastic containers. Will store out of refrigeration for one week, 3 months in the refrigerator and six months in the freezer.

**For powerful food processors like Cuisinart, use 2 cups, for less powerful ones, use one and make in two batches. Each food processor will produce different time results so check often for desired consistency

My fav snack is 1T of almond butter spread on a banana! Yummmmy! I just ordered 6lbs of raw almonds and can't wait to try and make my own. I usually buy Amaranth? Something like that.

Grocery stores like Whole Foods and Fresh Market often have grinders that will grind peanuts and almonds into butter. The taste and consistency takes a bit of getting used to if you are accustomed to the typical brands of peanut butter. I like to spread mine on whole wheat toast and use some natural fruit spread with it.

Its probably just cheaper to buy it... next to the peanut butter usually in the market. The only ingredient in mine was almonds, no sugar or salt or anything.

I don't have any recipes for it, but I use it mainly to dip fruit in. It's amazing with apples.

ETA- In an airhead moment, I didn't realize you mant recipes to make your own almond butter, I thought you meant recipes that use almond butter. *facepalm*
I've never made my own, I get the Kettle brand.
