Have any fellas tried Jilian Michaels' DVDs?

I was watching an infomercial this morning on Jilian Michaels' Body Revolution, and my wife seemed interested in getting it after the holidays. Now, i had my mind set on getting Tapout XT or Rushfit for myself, but i don't want to buy two workout systems when we can do one together. I know a workout is a workout, but have any guys out there tried Jilian Michaels' workouts, and what are your thoughts on them?

    Thanks! :flowerforyou:
  • Obviously I'm a female, but I am doing her 30 Day Shred. I don't see why a guy couldn't find use out of her DVDs.

It's all about how much you push yourself and how much of a workout you want to get out of it. I say go for it!

Just get on with it. If necessary, grunt every 10 minutes to assert your manliness. Fat really doesn't care whether you are doing 5 rounds with Tyson or an hour of Zumba.

My fiance does the 30 Day Shred with me. It is still pretty tough going and he uses 5.5lbs hand weights. Jillian might call you a lady once or twice but embrace it. They are really good DVDs.

Been doing Jillian Michael's dvds for nearly 6 months now and she delivers. A friend of mine is presently doing Ripped with her DH and they both enjoy it. In your position, I recommend purchasing Body Revolution along with the single Rushfit dvd ($8.99 at Amazon.com). This way, all grounds are covered! Good luck!

My husband and I did Jillian's 30-day shred awhile back and he really liked it. He is a highly active guy and he was still sweating up a storm by the end of each workout and complained that it was tough. I haven't seen the DVD set your talking about, but if it's anything like the one we tried, I would recommend it.

Let me get this straight, your wife wants you to watch Jillian Michaels' DVDs and you're hesitating?

Done it, pretty much a high impact aerobics class without a room full of people. As with any exercise you will see the benefit.

I regularly have a go at her yoga workout dvd. Great workout, and she's a lot better to look at than a sweaty hairy arsed bloke :)

My husband did the 30 day shred with me. He's pretty fit too. He said it was tough and he'd be sweating buckets next to me too. He just said that the ab workout was not much of a challenge for him. 30 day shred along with some extra ab work is what he'd recommend.

my husband didnt like the 30DS at first because Jillian says something about sticking the booty out, I guess it made him feel feminine?

After lots of begging I actually made him do 1 whole day with me (he was making fun of me for how tired I was when doing it) and he was pouring sweat after. He's in decent shape being he's in the military and has PTs and such. I'd say do 10lb weights or so if 5lbs is too little.

Both my husband and I did the 30 day shred with 12 lb weights... Less than that is too less for me.

I started 30 day shred a long time ago. I remember having a running injury that prevented me from continuing and I never got back with 30DS.
That said, it is a workout.
    BUT........
The hand weights used were WAY under what I needed for anything to feel effective.
I believe I progressed to 20 or 25 pound dumbbells within 2 or 3 days. Anything less and the chest workouts felt worthless.

I don't have body revolution but have considered it, I have done Jillian's kickboxing and some of her biggest loser titles. Lots of her training use body weight resistance, so it will be just as challenging for you as it is for her. At least from Jillian she claims to work like chest and arms and then takes a break for a couple of days and moves on to other places like back and shoulder or legs or abs. So she claims a better full body workout that the other systems BTW I have seen her product in target so not ordering from the infomercial appeals to me

Wiser words have never been spoken!!
  • Why doesn't she do Rushfit?

She doesn't seem to show interest in it, or else I'd order it, but I have no problem doing a program with her if its a challenging one.

I've tried the 30 Day Shred. I did the first one, I forget how it's broken up, anyhow it was around 20 minutes and it kicked my *kitten* real good. I haven't done it since, but I will again soon.

My main problem with workout DVDs is I sometimes need to go at my own pace, and also I generally hate the music.
  • ive done 30ds and banish fat boost metabolism they both kicked my *kitten* up and down worse than p90x did so i say do it mate plus the 30ds is on youtube free ;)

My man has done it with me on occasion..I wouldn't say its his first workout choice, but it still works, and its not as easy as most seem to believe it it, Jill kicks my *kitten* still!...It will only give you as much as your personally bring to it though...Just grab some heavier weights!

I would personally go for Insanity. Much better (IMHO) and no equipment needed. Might be something you both can enjoy?

I have a friend whom abides by Jillian. He ONLY uses her videos, besides what he does at the gym. He absolutely refuses to do anything else, including personal trainers. Photos of him:

He also eats 150% clean -- no junk at all. So, it's possible to use Jillian & end up with great results! I personally would get bored, though.

I've done 30DS level 1 and it kicked my *kitten*!
  • Let me get this straight, your wife wants you to watch Jillian Michaels' DVDs and you're hesitating?

No, she showed interest in doing that particular system, and I've been wanting to do either Tapout XT or Rushfit, but figured I would try the Jilian one instead. We can both use the same DVDs and not have to spend money on two of them.

She has bad knees Taunto, and told me that dvd is definitely out for her. I think i'll give Jilian a try and see what results the wife and i get from it. If i want to change things up down the line, i'll get one of the other dvds i mentioned............or Insanity........or P90X.
