Log Christmas Lunch/dinner?

I read a lot of people don't log xmas lunch/dinner, or the whole day
I know if it will make you too depressed you shouldn't
I think it would be empowering to see that you probably don't really go over cals by too much even without trying too hard.
Guess it's cultural cos I read some people have more fattening standard feasts than others.
My family had turkey, pork and salad with a french breadstick and ice cream or fruit for desert.
Nothing in that to cause trouble.
Don't forget to add your exercise running around like a headless chook on the day, playing ball games or frisbee with the kids and serious cleaning up.

I will probably clear 6000 kcals today.0

I'm logging it all, if I'm over by a fair amount at the end of the day so be it, it's only one day and the excess will do my metabolism good. I certainly won't be counting and restricting as I go along though, I'm giving myself a couple of days off.
I guess the trick is not to make it a habit.
I refuse to fear food.0 -
I have had two family Christmas feasts thus far and logged both. I went over by about 400kcals the first one, made up for it over the next few days. The one yesterday I didn't go over at all! I just ate very little in the morning and had the meal early (3:30pm) and then exercised twice (yoga and strength). The one tomorrow, I hope to do something similar. If I go over, I won't worry too much. The next day will be a new day and life (and food, and family) must still be enjoyed.0

Challenge accepted.0 -
I will log it. I am making diner so I can control how and what I cook ,and what I eat for the most part. I just may complete my diary late, that's all.
I log when I am on vacation and when I eat out too, even if I estimate calories. It works for me.0 -
Yea I'm logging.0

Negative on the logging.0

I log. It helps me make reasonable choices (do I need 4 spare ribs? do I really want to cinnamon rolls or is it just because everyone else is still eating?) and it helps me identify overall trends in the coming months. I have prelogged a lot of it today (my big dinner is on the evening on the 24th and I'll be home late), that way I can just adjust the quantities as needed, not look up or add foods to the database.
I'm bringing quite a few dishes and a few other were bought pre-prepared so I've got them down already.0 -

I'll take that challenge on Tuesday - I'm sure I'll hit 6K.0 -
I'll be logging. I just won't stress if I go over. But I'm usually surprised after I log that I either don't go over by much or I don't go over at all.0

Definitely logging. No idea why I wouldn't. For one thing, one day does not make/break anything...and for another, while many people like to brag about how many calories they're going to consume, most won't actually do it. Tracking and logging will likely tell me that my "out of control day" is only 1000-1500 above normal.0

I stopped listing a day or two ago. I hate the word log, I meant listing.0

HAd a MASSIVE (for me) early Xmas lunch yesterday (2000 kcal in one four hour sitting - probably a bit more) and I wasn't going to log it because I didn't know where to start! I was challenged by an MFPer to log it, so I gave it my best shot. I was surprised how empowering it was. We went for a walk beforehand and had already planned on it being the only meal of the day...but when I saw just how much I had gone over at an estimate, it gave me the motivation to work out to burn off the excess. In the 35 degree (celsius) heat at 8pm last night, we had just got back from a jog and I got back on the exercise bike and did another 30 minutes on there, and then some arm and ab strengthening exercises... I got back in the green with 4 calories to spare, so even if I underestimated, I burned off 600+ kcal so I lessened the damage. Had I not logged, I wouldn't have had the motivation to work out.
I will be aiming to do the same thing for Xmas day. I am bringing some of the food, so can work that out easily. We have planned on low-cal beer, rather than the 2+ bottles of wine my father will try to ply us with. And if I have to work off 500+ kcal again, then that'll give us an excuse to leave early! lol0 -
I am going to log, but I am not going to stress if I go over. I know I would be worried about the total if I don't log it - whereas, if i know the damage I can fix it. I hope0

I wont be logging. I probably wont go over much on my daily calories, I just think I deserve a day off from weighing and logging. I will eat exactly what I like tomorrow for Xmas lunch. I will even have pudding if there's room. I have already gained a kilo in the last few weeks and I'm really ok with that. After Xmas I will lose it again. Easy peasy0

I'll try and log it.
Though normally I'd WANT to eat 6000kcal we'd probably not even have enough food for that.0 -
I am not logging food today, tomorrow, or Christmas. It would stress me out a LOT ... I think not logging, considering the days a wash, and moving on afterwards will be better for my psyche. I did the same for Thanksgiving and just made sure to stay on point the days following, no weight was gained despite a massive Thanksgiving binge.0

I'll go back to logging food after Tuesday.0

Yep, I'm logging. The only meal I've got planned that's out of the ordinary is lunch with friends the day after Christmas, at a place that serves what looks like terrific low-cal salads (It'll be my first time there).
Yay for restaurants that post their nutrition info online!0 -
I'll probably log tomorrow as we are just doing ham, potatoes and some veggies. No biggie. Christmas Day, all bets are off. I don't cook, so I have no idea what is in the food anyway. And I drink. A lot. Of wine and yummy stuff. But I've known Christmas day would be a free day for months, so....0

I stopped logging consistently a few days ago. I'm actually just going to enjoy myself and worry about losing weight again after the 2nd (my husband's brithday).0
-
I will be logging everything. It will mess up my spreadsheet if I don't. However, I will be eating whatever I choose to eat and not feeling guilty about a single morsel.0
-
Who cares? Do it or don't. Just don't freak out and give up.0
-
I'll be logging. and sticking to healthy food.
I'm still fairly new to MFP and need the discipline.
hopefully this time next year I'll be at maintenance stage so won't worry too much0 -
We had the full Christmas works today with friends, ate, drank and then hit the cheese board. Logged and found that I had made good choices, yes I had Christmas Pudding, but only a small slice. Yes I had a glass or two a wine, but not a stupid amount. Good times where had and ony a few hundred over goal! Result Bring on Christmas day, it will be fine0

I am going to log everything I eat over christmas, it will help to keep me accountable and also will be very interesting I think0
-
I'm logging but I have also given myself permission to eat what I would like on Christmas. I know that will end up staying within my calorie limits.0
-
I'll log a quick add of about 5000 calories. I don't want to think about how much of what I'm eating, or macronutrients. I will enjoy the holiday, and get back to tracking on the next day.0

I'm *attempting* to log, but it's going to take me forever to enter mom's recipes into here so I can get an idea on the calories. We had my brother's family over for a help-yourself dinner today. Chicken and bread rolls are easy to enter. Green salad, potato salad, home-made stuffing - those are a little harder. Lemon cream pudding? Pancake bake? Not a freaking clue what's in that one. I mean, I know it's veg and crepe pancakes and white sauce and cheese, but I'll have to ask for the recipes tomorrow (and the potato salad and stuffing recipes) and enter everything by hand. And then try to work out how many people each recipe served, since I didn't see how many pieces there originally were before my brother and nephew snitched some.
So yeah, it's going to take a while to make the recipes up. So far, today's log is telling me I have a 1700-calorie deficit, because I've only managed to enter the chicken and bread.0 -
I will log everything per usual for the duration of the holidays. For me, the diary represents self-accountability and not guilt. Even on days when I surpass my calorie goal, I find that I learn from my experiences. This health journey is a marathon and not a dash. I want to keep doing what is working and push aside what doesn't work.
My take is that people should do what works for them. Then don't stop doing it! :happy:0
