Need a Sugar Detox plan

Well, my December has been a month full of sugar. I now find myself feeling "addicted" and need to start drastically cutting down. Please share your favorite healthy way to cut down without feeling the absence or experiencing major cravings.

Hahah I will be watching the thread for suggestions!
My first item of business today: pack up all this ridiculous candy that well-meaning family members put in my stocking and get it out of here! OMG the house is still full of stuff!
My second item of business: hit the gym.

Eat 20% less every day, but make sure to pinch some and throw it over your shoulder.0

i just cut it out lol and deal with the 1-2 days of head aches.... dull the cravings and the withdrawals with nuts and fruit... i find its the fastest way...0

My plan is upping my protein grams and taking l glutamine to help with the sugar cravings...so far so good!0

I hear ya!! I have eaten so many sweets I could puke. I am going to try drinking herbal teas and crocheting as a distraction. lol Whatever you do, stay away from diet sodas. I think it just makes you crave worse.0

No such thing as a detox. They're all scams. Just drink water and stop eating it.0

Personally, I just go cold-turkey. After 3 or 4 days of mostly lean meats, fruits, and vegetables, the cravings go away. If you want to reduce slowly, that's another option, but personally, it annoys me to make it more complex than it needs to be.0

I love the tea idea. I know that Good Earth has a tea that is naturally sweet without any added sugar. I completely forgot about this until you mentioned tea. I also agree with no diet soda - which I typically would drink but like you, I think it just makes things worse.0 -
I would suggest intermittent fasting from it. If you are Catholic, fast from it as a form of penance (i.e. Betrayal Wednesday and Penance Friday). Slowly build up more days until you are no longer using sugar. If you are fasting during Spring, do the whole 40 days without sugar.0

I am trying to make sure I dont have any of the junk in the house! I gave hubby a box of turtles and some decent Russell stover chocolates for Christmas! but since I gave them to him, I not gonna touch them .... Sure. Hope he doesn't offer me any!! Hehe.
I didn't make the traditional pumpkin or pecan pies this year. I only made two, banana cream and cherry. These don't tempt me at all.

"Detox" was probably the wrong word. Just looking for a plan to get me back to moderation - not eliminate it completely0 -
I'd go cold turkey and add it back in if/when you feel ready to eat it only in moderation.0

When I started here in May, I abstained from all processed sugar for one month. Its not easy, but it DOES get rid of the cravings.0

I find that if I don't anything sugary for breakfast - eggs/meat/vegetables only, I am not as likely to slip up later in the day. However I need to change some behavior patterns because I believe my sofa is truly toxic. . .if I sit and either read or watch TV I feel the need to eat as well -- and I am a master at "just one won't hurt"!0

There is a great book out there called sugar busters- I learned alot about that. Best thing you can do is remove it- you can't eat it if its not there. You'll go thru a few rough days of withdrawal but your body will thank you- and cravings should stop completely0

I quit last year for Lent. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done. I'm trying it again this year but starting on New Year's and keeping it up through Easter. I probably cheated because I would eat actvia to calm my cravings. I learned to read all my food labels.
The headache and overall grouchiness were terrible.
Mostly I find monitoring my moods helps. When I'm stressed I eat sugar to keep me going and then when I'm done stressing, I eat it to reward myself.

Now to be productive to this post: I start with getting the food out of my house. This doesn't always work, because people bring sweets into work, I might stop somewhere, and will power isn't always easy. I also find that repeating to myself "I do not eat sweets" actually works! Positive affirmation can add to willpower.0 -

Have heard both of these work! As well as upping good fats, coconut oil, avocado, etc. But I also believe that you have to cold turkey through it. I am starting that today myself. Sugar for me is a terrible craving and binge eating trigger. It also feeds unhealthy yeasts and gets your gut off balance. Didnt know if anyone was up for (and havent checked to see if this already exists) a "No Sugar" group! I am hoping to keep mine below 15-18 grams?0 -
