Ladies Asics, what do you have and would you recommend??

Options
So I've nearly outrun my current Asics and I'm looking to buy a new pair but since my fitness has returned I need a different model, one that is more suited to distance running than models suited for entry level novice running. Looking to complete a half marathon in 2013 :). Those of you who have asics what model do you have and would you recommend it?

Why Asics? There are lots of great running shoes out there...New Balance, Nike, Saucony, Mizuno, Brooks, etc. Go to a running store and have them match you to the right shoe for you, not just a brand.

I agree, don't narrow your search to just one brand.

I currently have asics but they made the balls of my feet numb for the first couple of months when I ran in them (despite feeling awesome in the store). So, I'm going to try something different this time.

I agree that you should go to a specialty running store and have someone help you pick the perfect shoe for YOU. What works (or doesn't work) for someone else should have zero impact on your decision. All of the major brands make high quality stuff, it comes down to fit.

Congrats on going for a half marathon!

I highly suggest going to a local running store to get fit. What works for one person does not work for another. Also, keep an open mind about brands. I wore Saucony for years and was apprehensive to change. I recently bought an Asic and a Brooks they are awesome. Both are better for my long runs. The Saucony no longer worked with my changing needs.

All running shoe models are slightly different depending on the type of shoe you need for your feet.

If your going to train for a half, I recommend going to a running store. Your feet will thank you

I have had Asics, Saucony, and Brooks. Currently sporting Brooks after a pair of Asics that were causing some foot pain. Your feet change over time. Don't get stuck on the brand as these ones are all good. Go for what truly fits and will hold up with your mileage. Go to a running store for a proper fit and enjoy.

If you are looking for a new level of shoe anyway it wouldn't hurt to go get fitted and see what feels right. I started with Asics and thought the same thing but then went to Brooks and then on to Mizuno(SUPER light weight). I ran 5 half marathons and my first full in the Brooks type shoes and LOVED them. But they have all been good for my journey so really just go try a bunch out and see what you like!! :) Most places too if you never where them outside and only on a treadmill will take them back within a certain time if you find they aren't the right fit too so keep that in mind as well.

I'm an Asics fan though I've also run in New Balance and Adidas. Nikes NEVER fit my foot right.

I was in the Asics 2100 series for a long time but just moved up to the Gel Nimbus and I love them! Completed my first half this past October. :)

I have really high arches and LOVE my Asics Gel Kinsei 4. Pricy when I got them last year - but they were AWESOME! I got some Adidas Supernovas (previously a fave of mine) to replace the Asics - but I really MISS MY ASICS!

This could be, and I repeat, could be, a recipe for injury. I used to be completely loyal to Asics too. That is until all the aching, nagging injuries. I finally decided to get fitted at my local running shop and found out that the Saucony Triumph 10s are the BEST shoes for ME. I haven't had any aches or pains since.

Let go of your Asics dependence and just try on some other brands that your running specialist may suggest for you. Take a chance. :flowerforyou:

PLEASE go get fitted. If they have a pair of Asics that fit your strike pattern, etc great. If not, get another brand. I listened to someone say Saucony were the best things ever. I bought a pair and I literally got 1/2 mile into a run and had to walk home. ALL brands change their shoes slightly over each new release, so even the Asics of yesteryear you loved so dearly may not be available any longer and the new "latest and greatest" with slight changes, may have changed for the WORSE.

yes try various shoes. i was just a NB gal, but now i use Asics, Saucony, Mizuno. You may find something that feels and works better for you. i have 4 shoes in rotation for different terrains, so never limit yourself to just 1 type of shoe

I love my Asics cumulus... and I just got Asics Gel Neo33. I haven't run in them yet but they feel like a dream. I have a neutral gait so I don't need any stability so these models are great for that. If you overpronate then you'll need a shoe with more support... Mizuno and Saucony have great models for that.
I alternate between my Asics, New Balance, and Nike Frees... they all are different in their cushioning but same in stability. When I do my long runs I run in my Asics or New Balances; when I do speed runs I usually wear my Nike Frees. I don't know why but this works for me. Have fun finding your new shoes :)

So do Asics, Nike, NB, Brooks, Adidas, etc. Every major mfgr has a model to fit pretty much every biomechanical need. Don't equate a particular brand as fitting a particular pronation need. About the only thing that can be said across any brand is that they might tend to fit a certain way--but even that can change. For years I could comfortably wear any NB 8D. Then they changed from their SL1 last to the new PL1 last and none of their shoes work for me. I have a wide foot, so some brands don't work unless they offer wides...and a lot of minimal shoes (what I wear) aren't. Nikes used to have a reputation for only fitting narrow feet, but now it's my primary brand. I'm not married to them, though. If they changed the fit I'd happily try something else. I also cannot do overly curved lasts, which eliminates a lot of Asics models.
