Terriers are infamous for being difficult to house break. Keep with it - he'll get it. Very cute pup. I'm a terrier person - have only had terriers for most of my life. Currently owned by a yorkie terror that is the love of my life. :)

    i will be patient..but grrrrr..

I am trying to stay as positive as i can..altho my rottie is teaching him bad behavior..lol...sigh..she wants to be the mommy..lol

you can go to the vet, which is really expensive and get a DNA test OR go to Petsmart and get a DNA test (Wisdom Panel is the brand). Its about $80 but accurate.

We have done the DNA test on 2 of our 4 dogs. We are about to do 1 on the 3rd dog.
dog 1: we were told she was "rotti/beagle mix" but the DNA came back- Golden Retriever/Lab/Shepherd mix, which makes a TON more sense!

dog 2: we were told "lab mix". The DNA came back- Lab/Husky/German Wire Haired Pointer. I see everything but the pointer in him.

and dog 3/4: we were told "beagle" but hes too tall for a beagle so we are excited to see what it will come back as. Dog 4, we know she is a full blooded lab so we wont test her.

i have been tempted..the humane society sells them for $50..but would be worth the extra few bucks to just go to petsmart since HS is out of the way :(

he is such a lover...having a bit of a time potty training him tho :( he crate trained fine...just have to watch him when he is out...sigh...and he knows what outside is for...i swear he has PAD (puppy attention disorder) :p

I guess we will truly never know what he is...ty all for your input :)

Terriers respond much better to positive reinforcement than negative reinforcement. When he goes potty outside, praise him lots and give him a treat. If he goes inside, and you catch him in the act, be firm and tell him NO. If you don't catch him at it ... don't scold him, he'll not know what it's about. just clean it up.
Don't forget that to be responsive, all terriers (like most dogs) need lots of exercise or they will be frustrated, over-excited... and so on...

Oh yeah ... What She said!!! ^^^^^^ They can get really hyper if they don't get their exercise!

@ Air Angel ... Is yours a rescue? Ours are.

I agree! That's what he looks like, Chihuahua mix. Could be terrier due to his size...But lots of dogs have wispy hair, or beards. Also, Chihuahuas can be long haired too.

In any case, it looks like you chose well. He's adorable.

PS Terriers are notoriously hard to potty train. (I think it's a combo of their size (brr it's cold), natural stubbornness, and inability to focus on the task at hand? Since they were primarily bred as hunters, they can get focused on something in the yard, become stubbornly attached to figuring that out and forget why you want them out there. All puppies do that to some extent, but these guys are notorious for the the potty training trouble.). Keep at it, you'll get there.

When I worked at a kennel there was a wonderful rough haired jack russel/chihuahua named Rusty; looks exactly like your cutie except his owners let his hair grow out more. :)

Good luck with terriers, they can be such a handful, but really rewarding if trained properly!

Too funny ... I have a maltese/yorkshire mix (morkie) ...he crate trains fine too, until he gets out and roams the house.. even goes outside, but still wants to mark the house -- also I'd say my dog has PADHD too ...sometimes I think he needs meds .....what I've learned is that he is actually training me ..LOL
