Hulu Plus testimonials
So I looked on the website, but it isn't very comprehensive. And I'm going to take advantage of the free week to check it out, but I wanted to pick some MFP brains.
I already have Netflix and Amazon Prime. I want to get rid of cable either totally or mostly (we have a $12 a month option that I MIGHT keep, but still thinking about it).
My idea is to get Hulu Plus in its place.
My understanding is that Hulu is somewhat like On Demand and offers current episodes of current shows the day or so after they air. Is this correct? And it looks like they also have streaming options for past seasons/shows and movies. What about news? I have a Roku and i haven't explored yet, but I think I can get news recaps and things like that through it.
Thoughts? Pros and cons? Good and bad?

I didn't like it.
I do like my Netflix and Amazon prime, but I just couldn't stand the navigation in Hulu0 -
I loved Hulu Plus!! A lot of the current tv shows don't show on Amazon Prime & Netflix, and even with the monthly sub for netflix + hulu, it'll still end up being TONS cheaper than cable. If you don't like it after the first month, unsub. No harm in trying, and you'll only be out a few bucks.0

We had Hulu for a while and it was nice. I didn't like the ads all up in there compared to Netflix but its better than regular tv.0

I like it but mainly because I can watch my shows on my ipad. Comes in very handy when sitting at the airport for hours! (I travel a lot for my job).0

Well, they offer a free trial, so I'm definitely at least trying it for a week. If I hate it, it's gone.
I'm just having trouble figuring it out from the website. The BF's kids are here this week, so I won't have time to play with it. I'm waiting until probably the weekend to sign up, since they'll be gone then.0 -
I love Hulu Plus, its like having a DVR because it lets you watch current shows the day after they air. I don't have cable, so I can watch The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, also a few british shows that I love such as Misfits (though, not the same without the original characters). I also have Netfix streaming, though I wish they had newer movies. I don't understand if I'm paying the same amount as the mail service, why I have to wait months for the same movies.0

It's the same with some TV shows. They have Mad Men season 5 on DVD now, but not streaming yet, even though they have the first four seasons streaming.
I'm reading some posts on the Hulu message boards and it's not looking promising. They don't even carry How I Met Your Mother. :-(0 -

Yeah, CBS shows are not on there and some NBC & ABC shows will not allow streaming onto devices (I have a Roku) so you can watch on your television. You can still watch HIMYM on Netflix which is how I caught up on this show.0 -
I hated it. You CANNOT get rid of commercials. HATE HATE HATE.0

You could try cbs.com for current episodes.0 -

We got rid of our satelite and only have Amazon Prime, Netflix and Hulu.
We don't use Netflix very much, to be honest. I like Hulu, as it lets me keep up with a few shows that I like - New Girl, The Mindy Project, Bob's Burgers. I guess I just watch a lot of Fox, lol!
You can't get some of the older seasons of shows, but I can usually find those on Amazon or Netflix. IMO - it's worth the $8/month. I think I spend $25 per month on all 3 combined, which is way better than $100/month for Dish. I haven't regretted getting rid of satelite at all.
Edit to address the commercials issue - it doesn't really bother me. There aren't that many commercials and they're all pretty short. The only annoying part is you keep getting the same ones over and over. But, I just tune out when they come on....run to the kitchen or bathroom or check my phone.0 -
I cancelled my subscription after a month. I am not sure if this is still the case, but they have an even more limited selection available on Roku, than they do if you watch online. This, plus the commercials made it very annoying. Though, I am not a big tv show guy, so that definitely was a factor as well0

I cancelled my cable tv service in 2010. I had both Netflix and Hulu Plus. I cancelled Netflix cuz I found myself watching Hulu more.
I'm into a bunch of Fox and Spike shows and Hulu has them all. The commercials...they don't bother me at all.
You're not gonna find every single episode for every single season of every single show though. Like Masterchef...there's 3 seasons but only only season 3 is on Hulu. I just ended up watching Season 1 and 2 on Youtube since the episodes are on there...although not in HD.
Foir $7.99/month for Hulu I'm happy.
As for movies, i'm on newsgroups and get them that way.0 -

Yeah, but not the most current season, which is what I want. And Big Bang Theory is on there, current season, so it isn't that CBS won't allow content, just certain shows. HIMYM isn't on OnDemand, either.
Interesting about not allowing streaming on devices. That's silly.0 -

I don't watch a ton. I'm kind of looking up what they have that I do watch show by show. I guess I'll try it for a week and decide. I still can't quite figure it out.0 -
It was a waste of money for me. We tried it on two separate occasions. They don't get anything special and you still get pummeled with ads. Hulu was a disappointment all the way around. The content really, really lacked.
We do use netflix and amazon prime.0 -
You can watch a lot of current shows online at the networks websites. I haven't had a tv or cable for 3 years and still am current with all the shows on CBS (well Big Bang Theory and NCIS). You may have to wait a couple of days to watch the latest episode but if you don't mind about that, its free. Between that, regular free Hulu and Netflix streaming, I keep myself pretty occupied for about $8/month.0

I started off with Hulu Plus before I got my Roku but honestly, I spend most of my watching time using streaming Netflix. There is SO MUCH on the Roku though that I don't miss TV at all, not one bit! Love having the access to so much content!! Hulu Plus can be good for certain things, I maintain my subscription because they have shows like "My So Called Life" which I haven't found on any other service, but the more time goes by, the more I consider canceling it because my interests are well fulfilled with other things.
I guess it depends on what you like to watch. The reality of it is, most of the shows on Hulu for the main channels can be watched on the channel's website itself (such as CBS shows) and so you're better off going that direction for those shows. Just my two cents.0 -

The problem with that is I have to watch on my computer, which is a PITA so I always forget to go and watch and by the time I remember, they've removed a bunch of shows already.
Bones and Downton Abbey are current on Hulu, which is a positive so I don't have to wait for the streaming. But then it isn't the end of the world if I do.
I'm thinking maybe I'll just keep what I have and drop down to the cheap cable and wait for streaming for everything else.0 -
