Hi All,
I am a 35yr old single mom who in the past has been successful at losing weight. I am in semi good shape right now, but certainly have a lot of things I can still work on. In the past I have lost weight by dieting and running basically. I ran because it was the only thing that I knew how to do. I went a couple years where I would run 5k semi regularly to keep me motivated. I would sign up for one a month and each time work on getting a better time. This motivated me to keep on going. I've since gotten out of the running, and really am not doing anything right now.
This time I want to focus on both diet, and a proper exercise routine. I want to incorporate Cardio as well as resistance training. I don't know exactly how to do that, but that is what I am going to work towards. Any help or guidance, or even just others who are trying to figure out the same thing is very much welcomed!! I want to get back to being an active person, indoors and outdoors I want to try to new things. Add me, friend me.. however this site works :)

  • I also completed a fitness assessment at my gym yesterday, so I have sort of a mini goal... I was to complete 30 step ups, 30 sitting squats, 30 push ups and 30 burpees with minimal effort. He explained that I should be able to maneuver and support my body weight with minimal effort, so I think measuring these 4 things will help determine if I am progressing towards my fitness goals. :)
  • Hello, sounds like we are in about the same place!! My goal this year is to run @ least 3 5ks, but I like your way of running 1 per month!! I'm going to be working on doing Jillian's Shred it workouts also this year!! As I creep closer to 40 the pounds are creeping on and harder to lose so I need to keep motivated and get into a better routine....sugar is my enemy!!
  • Hello! I can also relate, I am 35 too and wanting to get in better shape, by counting calories but mostly by sticking to a workout routine. I am not sure how it works either, I love yoga and "body/mind" type of exercise, so I signed up at my Y a few months back and I alternate cardio and yoga classes. I'd love to do more strength training but I'm scared of it at the same time.
So I'm not sure yet how I'm going to attack that!
  • The 5k each month really helped to motivate me. I would work on improving my time each month. Because I signed up and paid for them :) motivated me even more not to waste my money. lol. I have tried yoga and LOVED it! I did a heat yoga class, but they are just so expensive. If I could afford it, I would definitely do it more.
