She never said that it was a smartphone. People still use feature phones. I call them "Stupid Phones". People can and do steal things that others would never think were worth stealing. My own cell phone cost less than $20. I just leave it in one of the cubbies when I work out. If it was a smart phone I would keep it on my person.

I usually have my Ipod touch for my music but tomorrow I will also be bringing my new Nook so it may be a bit of a challenge figuring out how to keep an eye on it all.

My gym urges people not to leave valuables in locked lockers. If you are leaving your phone lying around in a public place, that means you are planning to go phone shopping soon.

I don't understand where "not chained down" ever became equated with "morally sound stealing."

I may be one of the only honest people left in the world.

 I hate to think that you can't leave things in a Cubby when you are just a few feet away. IHas the Gym Owner said anything about a Plan to keep your things safe? If not, I would be re-thinking my Membership. If your "Stuff" is not Safe, are YOU Safe?
Yes, you could keep stuff in a pocket or in the car trunk, but why should you HAVE to do that? Everyone is SUPPOSED to be at the Gym for the same reason.

That's lovely, but you can't count on strangers to be honest and considerate people. It's not that you deserve to be a victim of theft, but you shouldn't be so surprised. It's a crappy reality, but in the end, you're the one without a phone, so just don't leave it lying around?

it has less to do with honesty and much to do with personal responsibility. if you want to continue to play the victim card, i won't stop you. it won't help you, but i won't stop you.

You guys think you have it bad with the noobs on your machines playing on their phones.

I put my phone in a cubby at the gym behind my bottle of water. Within 5 minutes two boys went up to it so I walked behind them and they scurried off. Not after finishing my first set (arms) a grown man walked up, grabbed my bottle of water and phone (clearly a more seasoned thief) than was promptly confronted in the face with screaming Shelsea. There was about 20 cubbies and three being used, so it was not an honest confusion. I guess all three of them failed to realized the gym is surrounded by mirrors so even with my back turned I was watching their every move. This gym was also in OKC as I work there but live in Norman currently. I missed part of my workout (abs) because I didn't want to get on the circuit for fear of having property stolen. I did double cardio, and finished the arms. I was so mad. Shelsea's workout time is a special short time that she can alter her perception, abilities, heal and strengthen herself. It's never been bothered, of all the gyms and all the visits in Norman, no one ever did this, all within 5 minutes!

Referring to yourself in the third person leaves me only one response: "George is gettin' upset!!"

At least you kept the guy from walking off with your phone.

i have a non iphone which makes finding an armband that fits a bit tough, but i did find a suitable one at my local REI for like $10

as for people stealing water bottles, i figure if they need it that badly that they can have it.

Seriously though, people don't do this. If your water bottle is missing, it's either in the garbage or the lost and found.

I have found that a great solution to having problems is fixing them!

With a little creativity, you too can have a focused workout AND also retain ownership of all your belongings.

Good luck on this New Journey. :flowerforyou:

i think this is true. several months ago i left my HRM in one of the treadmill compartments and didnt realize it until the next day. i went and asked is anyone turned anything in and they led me to the lost and found which was a raiders of the lost arc style series of complicated shelving. so much stuff. i think most of it the cleaning staff picks up and turns in. there were lots of "good" stuff in there as well : shoes, watches, jewelry, etc so i can just assume that people thought their stuff got swiped and never thought to ask abt lost and found

oh and i found my monitor.. and a pair of lifting gloves i had dropped and then a minute later came back to get but saw they were gone. i figured someone took them, but there they were in the lost and found.

    Take a hole punch.
Punch a hole in your phone.
Punch a hole in your water bottle.
String a string in both and hang around neck.
    Problem solved.

    Gosh you are trusting..

Just put your **** in a locker or buy an armband for your phone.. problem solved.

My smartphone is my life... there is no way I would just set it down and not trust people to try and take it.. esp at a gym!

I don't take my iphone to the gym. I have a small pouch with my car keys, gym card and spare change and that is it.

    This.

And welcome to the real world.
  • Just popping in to say I've worked out in several gyms in OKC and have never had anything stolen. I've also seen shoes and jackets left in the locker rooms for days because somebody forgot them. It's silly to imply that the gyms in a certain city are unsafe. I suggest you lock up your valuable like people have suggested and stay in Norman if you're that afraid of "the city".

    Love the hole punch idea!
I never bring my iPhone with me unless I can keep it in my pocket. Most of the time I throw my stuff in a cubby and don't have to worry, coat, keys, lift gloves, water bottles. I keep my iPod on my arm but the less I take in with me, the less I have to worry about someone taking and the less I have to worry about it and the MORE I can focus on why I'm there.

Yeah, I always keep my phone with me, or locked in my car. I wouldn't leave it out in the open.

Am I the only one that doesn't understand this thread at all?
Cubbies? Shelsea? People moving things? OKC?

    What?
You're not the only one confused. Like location means anything.

To the OP, bring a light bag. Use an arm band. Don't bring your phone unless it's your music player.

    erm yeah.

Also, why are people bringing more then a water bottle into the gym? Leave your stuff in your trunk.

Er, really? Don't you get bored without music? Or how do you track your progress without a pen/paper or your phone?

I bring a water bottle (well, tea), chalk substitute ball, towel (your gym doesn't have a towel policy?), fractional plates, keys, my phone, and headphones. I keep it all in my bag next to me (where my jacket ends up getting stuffed when I get too warm) and just move the bag with me if I move.

But OP yes, that is shocking. Invest in a little bag to hold onto your things.

A gym friend had a pair of shoes stolen whilst in the gym. She had taken them out of her locker after changing, put them on the floor whilst changing, and someone swiped them when she had a her back turned.

Okay. That's just gross. Who wants somebody else's used shoes. Eeeesh !

Whatever I want to have in the gym with me (music, towel, water bottle) I haul it around with me.

A lock should be like one of the top few things that you always have with you to go to the gym. Lock, water, towel are the necessities (other than the obvious proper gear, footwear, etc). My phone and headphones are pretty high on my personal list, too, but that's my preference- lock, water and towel are pretty universal. I feel like maybe the OP is new to using a gym, and may not have realized a lock is a necessity unless you leave everything in your car- and then you have to carry your keys around, which is also annoying.

Use a locker or leave it witht hefront desk when you check in. That is what we do at our gym. I had a water bottle taken after I forgot it once, that was my own fault though...

People suck, people steal. Such is life, unfortunately thats why locks were invented. And I'm sure most people, especially theives, are not concerned with the quality of Shelsea's gym experiencce, despite being the special little snowflake she is.

Phones don't work if sweat gets in them. I've killed 3 phones by keeping them in my bra.
