You favorite cold cures

It's just a cold but I feel like crap and have no energy or appetite, I'm spewing germs everywhere with sneezes and cough, runny nose, and my head feels like it may explode. What are your favorite tricks for surviving a nasty cold? Thanks in advance :flowerforyou:

Happy and HEALTHY 2013!~

Lots of hot liquids! It really does help make you more comfortable.
Lately we've been hitting the local pho restaurant. Good stuff.

I'm prone to sinus infections, so I use nasal lavage (like with the neti-pot) to clean out my sinuses, usually morning and night.
Sleep is very important! It'll help you kick it faster.
I use a decongestant before bed, and use lots of pillows to prop myself up to help things drain better.

I've had two in a row over the last 6 weeks, so I sympathize. Maybe I'll go take a nap.

A good workout! I might not necessarily go as long or as hard as normal, but even when I'm not feeling 100%, a workout makes me feel better. Plus, I found that it clears my head out a little ;)

For chest colds I usually just rest, I have no way of dealing with those that actually help at all. But for head colds, ever since I was a little kid I always loved exercising in the cold, be it playing ice hockey, or tobogganing, or running, or playing ball hockey, for me the cold and the heavy breathing always opened things up and helped me breath better, and helped clear up the stuffy, congested feeling. May not be for everyone but it works for me. I'm interested to hear how others cope with chest colds..those ones absolutely crush me. Get better soon Wendy !

sleep, hot shower, vitamin C and a visit to the chiropractor...When everything is in line you heal faster. I know people will think I am crazy but when my kids and husband all got a nasty flu I was really in good shape chiropractically speaking. I never got the flu despite caring for my kids, working in a school with other sickies, being sleep deprived etc. My kids felt better within 24 hours of their adjustments and hubby, who was too "tired" to go to the chiropractor with us was sick for another week.

I have a chest cold right now. well, it's in my head too. (darn thing is EVERYWHERE  ) Usually if it's just in the head, exercise really helps get things moving. But I worked out yesterday and had some trouble breathing so I'm laying off the exercise til my chest clear completely. Only thing that has helped thus far is a hot steamy shower. The steam really seemed to loosen things up in there. I also take vitamin C and zinc and drink lots of fluids. Nyquil/Dayquil for symptom relief and I go to bed as early as I can get away with.

Whenever anyone in my house gets a cold my boyfriend makes them some regular Lipton black tea (stronger is better) sweetened with honey and he always drops a honey lemon Halls cough drop in. I know it is just tea but it works for some reason. My great grandmother used to give all the small children onion juice for chest congestion. It helps loosen everything up. Doesn't taste the best but it works.

I always keep a humidifier running from October to March. Saline solution and vitamins help.

I've also heard that any illness above the neck is safe to exercise with, but anything below the neck requires some time off from exercise.
