I'm thinking about starting C25K on treadmill next week. At 1st glance, I noticed that the total length of the workouts are relatively short, especially in the early week. My question is can I do the C25K workout and then follow-up with my standard t-mill workout, or will combining the two screw up my progression from a walker to a jogger/runner? I don't know if the following matters, but here's my t-mill workout parameters:
• All walk, no jog/run
• 60-100 min (900-1500 cals burned)
• Warm-up/down: 3-10m total, depending on specific routine
• Minimum speed 3.0mph @ 10% incline (15% incline intervals for 20-40% of workout time)
• Just recently added intervals of 3.5mph @ 8-10% incline and 4.0mph @ 6-8% incline
• Most of workout spent at 75-85% MHR
• Main motivation: cardio and max cal burn
• Exercise cal eaten back: 0-50%
• I plan to start "Beginning Strength" training in the next month or so

    Raul,

When I first did C25K I did it mostly outside, but I'd walk for about a half hour before and after the C25K workout. I was unemployed, so time was not a factor and I wanted that extra hour of calorie burn.

So no, I don't think it will mess you up at all. And if you get into the program and feel like it is, you can always cut back for a week to let your body recover than pick it up again.

final *bump*... hoping to lure in some insomniacs like myself...
  • I don't think doing the C25K in conjunction with your usual walking routine will affect the results at all. I have started the program before and done it with a standard walking program and have progressed fine (I stopped due to illness). When I start back up I'll be doing it with a swimming program.

I dont think it will mess with your other workouts. It is recommended for a beginner doing c25k to not run for more than 3 times a week to prevent injury. You could mix it up a bit? maybe do some cycling? or rowing? c25k is a great programme, i started back in may 2011 and have not looked back! i run my first 10 mile in 2 weeks! good luck.

Yes, your current treadmill workout is walking. You can keep it as you start the c25k without an issue other than time.
    Have fun.
