Polar, Life Fitness, and Nautilus are all excellent brands. Prices vary depending on how many 'doodads' you want on your watch. Mine includes a watch of course, fitness tests, workout creator, cals burnt, % fat burnt, and was $140. If you get less stuff, it's less expensive. I like mine a lot because the chest strap is flexible cloth rather than the plastic the older models have. Chest straps are much more accurate than wrist-only units.0

Got mine on amazon.com--a HighGear Duo--for $40. I like it because I change the batteries myself; something you can't do with the Polars from what I understand. And, you can use the chest strap or the wrist unit to check your pulse.0

I have a Polar F11 and I love it. I've had it for 3 1/2 years. I had to send it back to the company last year because it stopped working (I was pushing the buttons underwater: a big no no!) and they fixed it and returned it, no charge, within a week or so.0
