I finally broken down and got myself a SmartPhone...what health and fitness apps do you guys find most helpful....besides the MFP App of course???

  • I use Sportypal. It uses the GPS in your smartphone to track the distance you walk/run/bike etc. and the calories you burn.

    I can never get smartcoach to run!

    Endomondo or mapmyrun for running, cycling, walking etc

    Jefit for lifting.

    I have the C25K free app, IntervalTime by Cosmical Technology for intervals and tabata, and Wherever Workout for when I don't have a lot of time. They have workouts that are based on the amount of time and equipment you have, and it's free!

    Love Nike Training Club, it has the greatest workouts, and they really do seem to help. Theres also a huge variety to try. Also although it isn't specifically a fitness app, I love Day One for journaling about my weight loss, and adding progress pictures, etc. It really is helpful.

    I've been trying out endomondo, but the calories burned on there is way different that what MFP says.....I'm confused as to how I can get an accurate measure of the calories burned.

    A heart rate monitor with a chest strap is the most accurate.

    You will need a heart rate monitor to get an accurate measurement for you.

    I am wondering, do you find the calories logged by Mapmyrun are more than what you find logged on MFP?
    If so which are the best numbers to log?
    Im tired of having to use 3 different apps to average them out for reading.

    Apps I use every day:
    Fitbit
    Withings (for the blood pressure cuff and wifi scale)
    TactioHealth - nice overall snapshot of health on several metrics
    Digifit
    Lolo Beatburn Elliptical
    Glucose Companion - for tracking my fasting blood sugar
    iFitness Pro HD - lots of exercises and workouts
    Fitocracy

    Apps I do not use:
    Withings Health Companion App - I do not regularly use this app because it does not permit you to manually enter workouts (the app is synced only with Runkeeper, Bodymedia and Zeo, so if you want to enter any data outside of those programs, you're out of luck!)
  • Definitely try out BeatBurn Treadmill/Outdoor Trainer (It is usually $3.99 but I just got it on sale for $0.99 in Canada - excellent price!)
    I've tried several different work out apps but I have to say I've fallen in love with this one! The app matches music to your workout - whether you want to run, walk or jog. It's excellent!
    I run often, and usually dread going on the treadmill, but I actually really enjoyed it with this app! Its crazy the difference that music with a beat that matches your movement can make. Time flies by using this, and I found it really motivating. Highly recommend!

    Digifit has been an excellent app which I use as my primary HRM along with a Polar H7 chest band & sensor.
