I'm thinking about buying a juicer, just watched a documentary on netflix called Hungry for Change and it mentioned this. One girl on there said she juiced for three days and dropped 7 pounds right away. So I'm considering it.

Dropping fast weight is usually just water weight and food waste leaving your system. As soon as you start eating normally again it will all come back.0

I haven't tried it, but I've been meaning too. I watched "Hungry for Change" too and if you haven't seen "Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead" (also on netflix) GO NOW.
I'm going to fast tomorrow with smoothies made in my vitamix because I'm sick, but it's just one day and I'll be eating the WHOLE FRUIT and not the juice so I doubt I'll see any benefits or whatever.0 -

I watched "Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead" last April and decided to give it a try! I lasted about a week and then gave up! but I lost some weight and managed to keep a little of it off lol. I think if your dedicated to it it will probably work, I have read things and watched videos of people who swore by it and said it was the only way they could lose the weight! Anyways good luck!0 -
I love juicing.
It helps me with fruits and veggies given my hate for things that don't bleed...:bigsmile:0 -
If you get a juicer, get a gear extraction juicer. They get way more juice out for you. And, the centrifugal ones suck for greens. Period.0

Quick fixes aside, I just don't 'get' juicing.
I mean, smoothies are where it's at.

We juice in my house but not to the extent that some do. We don't use it as a "diet", but more as a supplement to our lives. We use the extraction for the reasons that Topher stated.0

I was obsessed that Fat Sick and Nearly Dead and the juicing concept for a while! I dropped weight fast and I felt WONDERFUL by the 3rd day in of my fast. I fasted for 7 days. While I did feel fantastic, I couldn't stop thinking about food the entire time! I did like it, but most likely won't do it again. But I do plan on incorporating some juices into my lifestyle now.0

I'm not fasting but I do like making juice in my VitaMix. It's great after work and before dinner so I don't snack on junk.0

I'm changing my diet to a plant based diet before I go on a juice fast. They do suggest that. Check out Dr Joel Fuhrman on Youtube and you can get a lot information there. Also try to pick up the book "Eat to live" by Dr Fuhrman. After you fast you want to continue with a plant based diet. So you don't gain the weight back. Feel free to add me. There isn't too many people on this site that is for the juicing.0

I have an omega 8006 juicer and I LOVE IT! I have done a 30 day juice fast in the past. I didn't lose massive amounts of weight, but I did break my addiction to certain foods and I felt absolutely AMAZING while on the fast. I went very heavy on the greens and light on the fruit.
Juicing is a fabulous way to increase your vegetable intake and to retrain your palate to appreciate the flavor of REAL FOOD!0 -
We juice (and LOVE our Omega 2004) but don't use it for juice fasting. Instead, I have green juice (with some fruit) as a regular and highly nutritious part of my regular food intake (when I take the time to juice). I wouldn't use juicing as a diet to lose weight quickly. Weight lost too quickly usually comes back quickly. Slow and steady wins the race.0

Great for getting the nutrients in but high in sugar if you use too much fruit. I try and stick to mostly veg. Celery, carrot, beetroot & ginger is my fav0

i just watched hungry for change the other night! and now i'm obsessed with the fact that MSG is hiding EVERYWHERE! sigh.0

Fat, sick, and nearly dead is a good movie about juicing also. My uncle went on a juice fast and lost a bunch of weight and improved his heart health (he was on a bunch of medication and doesn't need it anymore). He is currently doing great and has kept the weight off and maintains a healthy diet.0

I got a juicer last week and love it! I feel better already0

Funny thing is, back in"the day", JUICING used to mean taking steroids. But I guess that's a different arena (competitive weightlifting and bodybuilding)....0

Everytime I come back & look at this I keep cracking up!!!!!!0 -
I tried it for a while...I didn't lose weight, but when do I ever? The juicer we got was a pain to clean and the amount of vegetables needed got kinda pricey. I would stick with frozen berries, some juice, and assorted greens (kale, spinach, ) in a blender. It is virtually the same thing, cheaper, and you get the fiber in the produce too (a juicer will take out all the fiber)0

A juicer is an excellent idea. You don't have to start hard core and just do the juicing for an 'x' amount of days. If your daily routine; be that at work or around home, is physical, you will be very, very tired. Instead, make the juice a substitute for one of your meals everyday for a week and see how you like it. You'll definitely notice the difference in how you feel.0

A juicer only removed the insoluble fiber.. the soluble fiber remains. For me smoothies are great when they're sweet and have some milk or yogurt in them and then maybe a bit of greens.... but I could not imagine drinking a celery/cucumber/kale/lemon/kale/ginger/apple smoothie.. YUCK.
As for being a pain to clean, I hear ya on that. My old juicer collected dust because it was terrible to clean and produced a very wet and wasteful pulp. My current juicer is a breeze to clean and the pulp comes out like sawdust!0 -

Oh my gosh, what a shock to see bunny on this thread! I love her on youtube Do you watch her too?0 -
After reading this thread I've lost all hope.0

Juicing has really worked for me getting the last bit of weight off. My weight was stagnant for months and months. My nails and hair are so strong and my skin in amazing. It is pure vitamins and your body doesn't have to work to absorb them. No matter how you look at it, getting weight off is hard and harder for some than others. On Tuesday I will have been jucing for an entire month. It has been fantastic and not the quick fix some might think it is. I plan to do this off and on throughout my life because it makes me feel amazing.0

I've been juicing for breakfast for the past week - kale, spinach, celery, carrot, broccoli, and apple. Feel great drinking it. I even think my skin looks better.
I also sometimes make smoothies with yogurt and fruit for breakfast. Then again yesterday I had a croissant with egg and cheddar - though I shared it and only ate half. Baby steps!
Doing my best to stay within 1200 calories a day and think the support on this site is wonderful!
Good luck to all of us in 2013!

I have a breville JE98XL and I know it is a centrifugal one and not a masticating but I wanted to make sure I love it before I spend over 300 dollars, and I sure do love it. For me I would not be eating the veggies without the juicing so its better than nothing. I would never eat kale, celery and a whole cucumber in one day!
it is great and I feel awesome0 -
I just bought a juicer a Breville juice fountain elite. I haven't used it yet but I too watched hungry for change. I don't plan on fasting, I just want to get more nutrients in my husband and my diets. FB friends liked Breville and said to go for the higher end models. This one as a separate area for the pulp that you can put a bag into for easier cleaning. It also as a bigger opening so things don't need to be chopped as fine as some other models.0

I bought a juicer right after Christmas. I've been juicing daily and substituting juice for 1-2 meals a day. I feel great.
I weighed in on Friday for a new baseline after the holidays. I'll see where I'm at this next Friday.0
