What's the most important thing you have learned on MFP? Mine is that you don't have to starve yourself to lose weight! Actually, it's much better if you don't!

Patience.
I told myself I would do this for a whole year and see what happened. 60 pounds went away.0 -
Rule number 1- log in every day0
-
Calories matter. I used to underestimate my calories a lot of the time.0
-
Portion sizes / measurements. I was basically eating double-triple of what I thought I was. Even with fruits/veggies that adds up0
-
Gif's are funny0
-
excuses are really lame!0

What you said!
A few more:
1. Don't drink your calories.
2. There isn't always a connection between calories in a serving of food and how satisfied/full I will feel if I choose to eat it. Food choices do matter in that respect.
3. Condiments (ketchup, BBQ sauce, mayonnaise, salad dressing) have calories too, don't forget to log those.
4. There's always room for a treat, if I really want it.0 -
Trust yourself and listen to your body! Everyone here has a different opinion on what works and whats bad....follow MFP's plan as written and take it from there instead of worrying about Scooby and them lol!!!!0
-
That this is a lifestyle change and not a diet!0
-
1. The calorie content of food and how much I need
2. More heavy weights, less cardio
3. Everybody has times when they step away from exercise for a week or two, just get back at it again, don't need to feel bad.0 -
I learnt there is no such thing as 'Starvation mode'0
-
Logging really keeps people on track.0
-
Eat more to lose weight
Use the SEARCH feature in the message boards before posting anything - it has probably been answered before.
Read lots of posts and blogs - knowledge is power!0 -
There are calories in everything .... You have to log it all ... Pretty exactly. Drink lots of water0
-
I learned the calorie counts of the foods I had been eating and it hit me like a giant dump truck. Tracking and logging have been the foundation of my success!0

Rule number 1- log in every day
Amen. And for me, that means every day of my life ...0 -
Biscuits and little treats are calorie bombs no matter how tiny the slices are!
I have learnt to listen to my body, to eat when I feel hungry and to stop when I'm satisfied. It takes a week or so to activate this feeling once again, because when you just eat when you feel like it, it goes mute.
And I also learnt to estimate the amount of calories in each food an to eat healthier!0 -
That there are other people out there with the same ambitions as myself and it is just as important to give motivation & support as it is to receive it!0
-
That MFP is NOT Facebook so it's totally okay for me to add completely random people and that if I didn't, I'd have no one to hold me accountable and help motivate me to take this a day at a time.0
-
I've learned not to debate with people. Voice your opinion or response to the OP and ignore people with opposing views. Opinions are like a-holes, everybody has one.0
-
That having a group of people motivating and supporting you is more important than I ever thought it would be. Sometimes we are only as good as our cheer squad.0
-
That calories add up quick when your eating the wrong stuff.
I didn't put this extra weight on in a day/month/year so it is not coming off quick. Have to be patience.
Logging keeps you accountable for what you eat.0 -

^^^^THIS^^^^^ more than all the other stuff0 -
when logging, look for other food entries, NOT ALL ENTRIES ARE CORRECT IN THEIR CAL COUNT...the other day I was logging an uncured frank, and the one I chose first had 120 cals MORE THAN THE PKG SAID.....I looked again and found the appropriate one....SO LOOK OUT!!!!
also that I am not the only one out there with my issues0 -
That this is a lifestyle change and not a diet!0

That I had to change my thought process, lifestyle and routines.
It's better not to deprive myself of foods I enjoy, as long as I can fit them into my calorie goal, I can have them and I'm much less likely to binge eat.
To weigh/measure everything. I was eating three/four times what I thought I was.
The human body is remarkably adaptive. When I started exercising, I couldn't do more than 3-4 minutes, but I worked through the pain and can do 30/40 minutes now.
I'm mostly impressed at how supportive the community is in general.0 -
I HAVE LEARNT THAT THE CALORIES ADD UP....INCLUDING THE SEVERAL CUPS OF MILK-LADEN TEA/COFFEE0
-
That I am not dieting, I have changed my eating habits, hopefully for life.
Portion size.
To drink a lot of water.
You can have chocolate. All things in moderation.0 -
Carbs are not the enemy, even fruits have carbs. And that it can be a really slow process, but it pays off.0
-
Portion control. Using MFP daily keeps one in check. I've viewed this as change in lifestyle to better myself.0
