*gluten free* *vegan*

Recipe (makes 16 servings):

2 cups boiled red kidney beans, drained
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup agave syrup
1/2 cup natural brown sugar
2 tbsp natural peanut butter
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt

Preheat oven to 350. In a blender or food processor, blend kidney beans and syrups until smooth. Add remaining ingredients one by one until completely blended. Spread batter about 3/4 inch thick onto greased baking pan. Bake for 30 minutes.

I don't like my food to be TOO sweet; I find it nauseating. Don't get me wrong, these are sweet as any dessert should be, but they're definitely not slap-me-in-the-sweet-tooth sweet. However, if you'd like to make yours sweeter, add 2-4 packets of Splenda. If you'd prefer to keep them nice and natural, add 1/8 cup maple syrup and 1/4 cup brown sugar along with some instant oats to keep the batter thick enough. Keep in mind the calorie count will obviously go up, but you'll be avoiding the nasty chemicals in the Splenda.

Here's what they look like with a drizzle of 2 tbsp chocolate chips melted with 1/2 tbsp canola oil:

drizzle only takes them up to 107 cals

They don't taste of beans in the slightest. Just like cookies don't taste of eggs.

    They're absolutely delicious!

I think the drizzle of chocolate could be all the difference it needs.

Personally, I thought they tasted great without the drizzle, but it's definitely necessary for anyone who needs their brownies to be very obviously SWEET. Before I switched to a healthier lifestyle, I'd add walnuts to my brownies to dull the sweetness, though, so my palate may not be the best gauge.

Keep in mind, though, that I did once make a living off baking... so I'm not exactly an amateur. These are pretty guaranteeably great.

Totally. As long as they're cooked before they enter the blender, all's well. Make sure you drain them, too.
