Victoria- you are all about some running! I want to improve my 5K time a bit- get a bit faster, and stay in the 3-4ish mile range for a few more weeks. I would like to eventually work up to a 10K- maybe by the end of summer. The Detroit Half-Marathon would be quite the goal! I don't think I would be ready by then, but perhaps I would be. I would totally come cheer you on though!!

If I'm continuing to love on the 5K racing, on May 2nd in the Burns Park Run in Ann Arbor, which is a popular run in town (800-1000 participants according to website), but not sure about that. Victoria- don't know how soon you want to run a 10K, but Ann Arbor has the Ann Arbor-Dexter run, which is a 5K/10K/Half-Marathon on June 6th (http://www.dxa2.com/). If I seriously start upping my distance, I might shoot for that 10K, but I don't know if I'll be there yet, as it's 2 miles more than I've run before and it's less than 2 months away. Bonus- it coincides with Main Street's Taste of Ann Arbor. Mmm!

I've sort of envisioned running a half-marathon at some point. I don't know if I ever will feel the need to run a marathon- maybe once just to say I've done it, but a half marathon I believe is doable at some point for me.

    Hey everyone!

Whats this Trader Joes everyone is talking about ??? I ve never hear of it.. i live in Illinois ... so maybe its not a store around here...

I am totally loving all this warm weather ... hubby bought me a washer and dryer for my bday... and i have been washing clothes and hanging them out on the line... im way excited.. i havent had a washer and dryer for almost 3 yrs.. we have been going to the laundry mat..

Oh and just for the record i hate T.O.M omg.. when i was on that depo shot i never got my period.. but now that ive switched to the nuva ring its like all the time.. gaahhh oh and like i feel really hungry too ... does anyone else its like when im hungry i dont even want to eat so healthy... like ive been eatting potato chips.. one servings.. but i have had them like 4 days in a row..lol and i had some sweet tea.. im still trying to keep a single portion and all.. but ive gained like 4 lbs.. im hopeing its just the week.. feeling a bit bloated and it sucks.. the wkend seems to be my worst eatting days.. simply because i dont go and work out at the gym.. so it seems my calories go over a lot...

oh i just picked up a bag of morter i need to tuck point the brick around our house im kinda excited to get started on the project.. remodeling projects are kinda fun...
oh and i was going to till our garden on Sunday but something broke on the tiller so now its getting repaired so maybe this wkend i can till.. and get our garden planted....
We just ended our spring break... we didnt go anywhere... did any of you guys go anywhere? i was so glad to have the kiddos back in school.. haha my oldest thought he shouldnt have to do anything around the house since it was spring break...

Mrs. Marvelous - LOL reading your post. I love doing yardwork and can't wait until it's nice enough to do it here. The Trader Joes that I went to was in the Chicago suburbs. You have to check it out.

Kristina - I'd love to do that 10K but it's the weekend of my Conference in Nashville:sad: I looked on-line and have many to chose from in MI in June and July. I am leaning towards one in Boyne City near the end of July. It's only an hour from me. That would still give me about 3 months to train for the Detroit 1/2 Marathon.

So far, I only gained 2 pounds on the trip - hopefully it's water weight. If not, it was so worth it to enjoy the great food. It felt good to sleep in my own bed last night. Well, I have very full days today and tomorrow. I leave town and 4 new clients call - EEEK both days I work start at 8:30 in the morning and will get home at 7:15 in the evening... The price of taking a day off. I may even have to move some people to Sat morning. 4 clients is 10 to 12 visits added to my schedule for the week and each visit a is an hour plus drive time. Normally 1 new client a week is good. Gotta run and get finish getting ready. Have a great day everyone.

Mrs Marv...we could be writing the same post this week...I too have the TOM blues...wanting everything in sight and I'm up this week too, with me it's more like carbs...I made a chicken pot pie and mashed potatoes on Sunday...hoping the veggies off set the crust... and I need to get to the store, put it off yesterday because I know that I am craving some of those pastries with the cream in them...puff curls or something like that....I haven't had one in years, but if someone brought me one right now, I know I'd cave! We stayed home for spring break and my kids did nothing but relax....that's why I spent all of yesterday trying to get the house back to normal...still hasn't happened yet....might take me a couple more days:laugh:

Pinbot, glad your back home safely...and your hot little furnance will have you back to normal in a few days:bigsmile: , sounds like a blast! Glad you enjoyed yourself!

I need to get movin along...I'll check in later, have a great day everyone!!!

I think we call can agree that TOM issues suck. I'm due any day now. Then again, my cycle is pretty much never completely regular, so who knows when it will arrive. I can always count on a couple extra pounds though. Ugh.

Victoria- I'm glad you trip went well. It sounds like you had a blast. I'm sure those 2 pounds will just melt away, but even so, I'm sure it was worth it. I hope you get back into the swing of things okay and good luck with the increased client load! Too bad about you traveling that weekend of the Dexter-Ann Arbor run. I don't think I would be ready by then to do a 10K, but perhaps. I think I would definitely be able to do the 5K. In October there's the Big House Big Heart run, which is big in town, which has a 5K and 10K and you end in Michigan Stadium's 50 yard line, which would be a blast! My roommate ran the relay marathon last year for the Detroit Marathon and had a blast. I think she ran the shortest leg (3 or 4 miles), but said it was fabulous. Even being part of a marathon would be exciting.

Kendal- way to go with c25k! My calves sometimes hurt a bit while running, but I thought it was due to my shorter stride on the treadmill. I was always trying to strike a balance between a comfortable stride for me (which is too fast a speed to keep up for long) and a comfortable pace for me (which is too short a stride for my legs and they start to ache early). I've found a happy medium outside while running, but I hope to continue to up my pace.

I got an email from the Almost5K peeps. I didn't know the exact distance before. It's 2.92, so it's a bit shorter than a 5K (thus the name Almost5K), but the course is hilly enough that it's much tougher than longer distances that I've run. I'm looking forward to it. I hope that in not too long a time I plan to run an official (but more flat) 5K race. There are tons here this time of the year.

I'm pretty tired this morning. I really could use some coffee, so I might make a coffee shop run this afternoon on my way to campus if I hit a wall. It was raining here this morning, but I think it's supposed to clear up. If it does so, I hope to run 3+ miles today outside. If it's crummy weather, I'll go to the rec center and either hop on a treadmill or hit up the elliptical and do the run tomorrow instead. I'm putting my exercise at the beginning of the week and puttering out at the end before the race on Saturday.

Hope everyone is doing well! I plan to hit the bed early tonight as my body feels pretty tired, but new episodes of Glee are starting again and a girl has to have her priorities. I'll go to bed right after though,.

well, if the scale is right i've gained 5 pounds over the course of this move. can't say it surprises me, but it does disappoint.
but, like i always try to think/say.....today's a new day, time to get back on course.

thanks for the support through the move. i should be on here more, but we are still unpacking, getting the house set up, looking for jobs etc, so needless to say, my posting will not be as frequent as it used to be. still, i know i can't do this w/out you ladies.

trader joes is awesome, but i find it a bit expensive. still, it is the only place i can find soynut butter (like peanut butter, but no peanuts).
    love to all!

I am way too tired this week. I need to go to bed at a decent time tonight. Zumba is tonight. Plus Glee comes back on. I have it set to record, so I might just wait a day or two to watch it. Yup, I'm seriously that tired. I will probably do another day of c25k tomorrow before yoga. Might take Thursday off. Might not since I typically weigh in on Fridays. Plus Friday is snack day at work....the good thing is that a lot of people on my team are now trying to be more health conscious so maybe the snacks won't be so unhealthy. But still, not sure I should risk weighing in on Saturday.

I'm hoping to have a decent loss this week since I am being really good but I'm scared TOM will show up at the last minute and ruin it all. Maybe I should get a drastic hair cut and lose 2 pounds that way.

LOVE trader joe's. The one is town is pretty small, considering how "crunchy" my town is. They always have yummy frozen options, I always get their plan tahini-free (less calories!) hummus, and their wine selection is good and pretty cheap.

I spoke too soon this morning. Guess what just arrived? Ugh. The good note: my TOM was spot on this month, starting exactly the day it was supposed to. Maybe I'll be more regular in the months to come. The bad note: eww TOM, boo weight gain. So I'm not expecting a good week on the weight front, though will try and eat as well as possible and not submit to too many food cravings. At least I should be through the worst of it by the race on Saturday.

Carolyn- glad to see you back! I hope the settling in goes well. 5 pounds seems like a lot- sure you might have gained some, but it might be added sodium/not enough water to drink. Pound some liquids and up the cardio! Hope the elliptical in the house is going okay!

Kendal- glad I'm not the only one eagerly awaiting Glee. Have fun at Zumba tonight! I'm really tired as well, but I'm going to try and stay up and watch.

Tonight is a good tv night! Glee, Deadliest Catch and BL. I'm hoping not to bawl my eyes out watching Deadliest Catch...not sure if they are going to show the whole thing about Captain Phil dying right off the bat or make us wait. I LOVE that show and look forward to it, but am a bit sad to watch it too this season.
I'm a chior kid so I too love Glee...its like how every kid in HS Chior wants their groups to be when singing. My chior teacher only liked chamber music however so we never had show choir music or anything. Bummer dude. (did I spell chior right? lol)

I premade elk shoulder swiss steak to pop in the oven when one of us gets home tonight, so that is a nice and healthy dish. We were short on cash this week and had to buy very limited groceries, so we are making good use of the frozen foods we've got. Thank God I stored all my extra garden veggies in the freezer...I'm having a packet of them for lunch today! That and my homemade no knead carrot juice bread I made. LOL...it works.

Glad to hear all the ladies doing the C25K program. I am not there yet. My plan is to start it again in June. I think by that time I will have lost enough weight and gotten conditioned enough by working out that I can keep up with the program and not puss out when my calves start hurting. Its good to know that part of that pain might be my stride length on the treadmill from possibly not going fast enough....never thought of that before.

Well my trip to MIchigan and Ontario is one month out...I am hoping to be able to get up in the morning and get a work out in at the hotels, but am waiting for my itinerary so I can look them up and see what they've got for equipment. Here's a question...how do you store stinky gym clothes when traveling??? In plastic baggies?
The one thing I know right now is that five of seven days traveling I will be on a plane going somewhere. Yeesh.

today i am out trying to tuck point the brick around the bottom of our house.. its not to hard.. just killing my back..
well happy Tuesday... tonight i get to take my daughter to a family fun night with head start its going to be about transitioning to kindergarten...

I'm anxious to see what Deadliest Catch does too. I mean, he seemed to be the biggest favorite captain of the fleet. They've shown him in all the commercials for the season premeire

    sad, boooo :(

I watched a preview that showed the Hillstrands getting really pissed at Keith for trying to poach a crewmember...so yeah. Should be interesting. And sad. I don't know how 90% of those guys can chew or smoke like that in those conditions and not drop dead sooner. Crazy.

Hey gang, I finally made it home and then had to cook dinner:grumble: WTF was DH doing from 5:30 to 7:30. MEN suck and not in the way I want them too:blushing: Sorry TMI.

Kendal - Do you run with the heel striking the ground first, then pushing off with toes? You're supposed to land mid-foot - to the balls of your feet, and push off with the toes. Check this video out: http://video.about.com/running/Proper-Running-Form.htm (note I have not viewed the video myself!!!). It could also be that your shoes are not giving proper support or that your calves are under developed. The burning pain is not normal and if it doesn't go away in the next 2 weeks, I would consult a specialist.

Okay everyone, I may have to check Glee out next week. Well I need to get to bed - see you tomorrow.

So glad to see you posting again Carolyn!!! I have really missed you!!!! I am sure most of the 5 pounds is water weight and if you return to your normal eating, it will be gone in a few days.

Thanks all for the warm welcome back. I am hoping that the 5 pounds is lack of water. i did not drink as much driving up, because rest stops were too few and far between. I almost peed on the side of the road one time....lol
also, my dh says that it is super dry up here, so whatever water i was drinking before, i will need to up it. ugh! that's getting close to (seriously) 200 oz a day. I was doing 128 before, so maybe just one more water bottle.

I decided Monday that I hate the elliptical. not sure why. I am going to bundle myself up tomorrow morning and hit the ground running....literally. hopefully i don't get too lost.....lol

I am not watching glee tonight, as we don't' have cable, and so far we are liking it. one, it saves us money......and two, we are big netflix hounds (we usually are on the 6 at a time plan) and mostly we get tv shows, so we are good. Also it keeps the little one away from the tv.

    Pinbot...yeah, men and dinner. wth?

good night to all. I have a new book i want to start!

It's not so bad not having cable as most shows you're able to view the next day (or even later that evening) online. It's something I'll have to seriously consider when I get my new place in order to maybe save some money. We'll see. Glee was rather amusing last night, and I'm excited to have it back on... mostly cause of my fav broadway stars is in a multi-ep arc and the female lead on the show has been reunited with an old partner from a musical she used to be in, Spring Awakening. Reunion!

So I'm feeling like a major fattie at the moment, mostly do to the weight blow up with TOM issues. Not surprisingly, when I stepped on the scale this morning, I was up 2 pounds. :grumble: I know what it is, but it doesn't fail to piss me off. I had planned to go for a run yesterday but TMI i was cramping like whoa and in a fair deal of pain. If I take pain meds before the cramps start, they still hurt somewhat but are completely manageable. If I don't take something until the pains begin (like yesterday), I'm pretty much in agony for the rest of the day, even after taking meds. So yeah, was not in a place to run around, but I feel guilty for not doing it. I'll need to do something this afternoon. I would prefer to go for a run today, but I brought gym clothes in case I decide to hit up the rec center instead.

Hope everyone has a good day! Mine SHOULD be relatively low key at work. Just one or two potential patients and I have to make a bunch of reminder calls for my group tomorrow.

When I first started watching Glee I got really pissed at the fact that the first number was lipsynced..and the rest weren't so it was all good again. I got goose bumps a few times. Great show!

Deadliest Catch...wow...all I can keep thinking about is the fact that they swtiched the two Jakes on the boats and now the son isn't on the boat with his dad and I sure hope they got switched back before he died....ugh.

Tonight I will watch BL and the second half hour of the show that comes on after it..can't remember what it is called. Brothers and Sisters maybe? I like it.

My stomach is bloated. It was upset yesterday and bloated and it is again today. I think it is from all the fiber gummies I've been eating to help move things along. Well they had the opposite affect I guess. How annoying.

Once I get my itinerary I will check to make sure the hotels have laundry service. If they do I might bring less clothes and have them launder what I've got. It sure would be easier that way.

Kristna - sorry to hear you don't feel so good. (((((((((big hug))))))) Hope you feel better and get to run tonight. In preparation for your race, you should avoid running Thurs or Fri. Cross training on the elliptical should be okay.

Lacey - if they don't have laundry service, think about investing in a quick dry outfit that you can launder each night in the hotel sink. Your trip sounds like fun.

Well I've gotta run to see client # 4 of 8.

Someone on here mentioned donating money to my charity walks. I only have a link to one right now and thats the March of Dimes walk I'm goin next Saturday. The link is here:

    www.marchforbabies.org/blombie

I typed that in, so let me know if it doesn't work. I'm walking with a friend in the Susan G Komen walk on the 1st so I don't have any information about raising money yet.

I haven't signed up for the Children's Tumor walk on the 8th yet. Not sure I will do that one yet.

Info for another walk at work came out today. American Heart Association on May 22nd. Will probably do that one since I'll probably have people from work to walk with me.

TOM showed up today. So much for this week's weigh in. :ohwell: Amber and I decided to take today off from exercising. We're both tired. I went pretty hard at it the past 2 days. That means I'll get in day 3 of week 2 on Thursday. Clingy guy was trying to be all manly and has given himself shin splints cause he's started running too much too soon. :indifferent: I emailed him the C25K links that I have. Dude is so clueless. You'd think he'd try to get the info on exercising and weight loss if he was really serious about it. He didn't even know what fiber and protein are. I think he's just doing it cause its what I'm doing. And now he comes to me with all kinds of questions. Its cool but I wish he'd do it for himself and not to impress me. And yeah, I'm so much more athletic than he is lol. We were wrestling on the floor the other night and it got my heart rate up a little but he was panting like he was about to fall over when we were done.

When I started zumba I would burn over 1000 cals in an hour. Last night I burned 686. :grumble: :grumble: :grumble:

To all the C25Kers: Is it supposed to feel like you're dying when you run? It's super hard! I wonder if my body's not ready for that? But I feel super accomplished when I get through it and it's done, and I count up all the 1 minute running spurts and it''s 8 or 9. But I wonder if I'm doing something wrong? I did 3.2 miles on the eliptical yesterday in 34 minutes, and it was way more managable, even with the hill setting. Hmmm. You guys are awesome; I want to be like you! Oh, and can ya'll see my weight lost ticker? Cause I can't and wonder if I messed that up too.

SP- i won't lie, when you first start out on c25k, heck, even when your into it a few weeks....yes, it does feel like your going to die. but it passes, and that feeling of accomplishment is addicting!!
I actually ran outside this morning, and it was wonderful. Came home and did map my run, and I ran 2.8 miles! Almost fell off my chair. running two miles on the treadmill made me want to die, and I always heard that going outside was far worse, but maybe i actually got my body conditioned to it.
Trying to get back to eating better. missing my family doesn't help, so i am not planning on anything wonderful for this weeks weigh in. no biggie. gotta just get back on the horse.

Yes, for the first several weeks doing c25k, I sort of wanted to die, but I felt so accomplished when I did it. Stick with it- it does get easier!

Carolyn- congrats on running outside! I felt the same when I transitioned from the treadmill. I had such a bad experience when trying to run off the treadmill when I was in the midst of c25k, that I thought outdoors would be horrible, but the transition has been good, and I've been able to run much farther than on the treadmill. You're doing fabulous, and it's great to see you back here.

So, I ran today. Not as far as I wanted. I wanted to do 3 miles, but it was hot outside, and my body felt exhausted- TOM issues? BUT, on a great note, when I decided I would only do a small loop (1.8 miles), I tried to up my speed, and I averages a 12:02 mile! YES! My longer runs have been averaging 13-14 minute miles, so I'm pretty happy I was able to do that. Granted, I was about to die by the end of it. I really want to continue to work on my speed. Plans are to try and get to the gym one more day this week and either elliptical or bike before my race on Saturday.

Eating has been meh. I've surrendered to chocolate pretty hard this week, but have tried to keep the amount under control.

Today was rough for work. 7 of 8 scheduled clients. I got to 1 home and she wasn't there so I called mom and she was available so we worked out for 42 min. Thank goodness my next client was only 6 miles from mom's home and that she had the day off. Or I probably would have half @ssed my workout for a 3rd day in a row.

Finally watched BL tonight and wow the contestants are looking great.

One of my cats is stumbling around tonight like a drunk. At least she ate dinner. If she's not better in the morning, I'll take her to the vet. I palpated her entire body and no pain - it seems to be neurological. DH is really rattled. He doesn't handle illness very well.

Kendal - I made a donation to your walk. Hopefully you get the e-mail. Have fun this weekend.

spfraiser - I don't see your ticker!! Did you cut and paste it into your signature? Good luck. It's been so long, I don't remember how to do it. The first few weeks of C25K, I thought that I would die!!!

So, I have my personalized plan to train for the 10K to be run in Boyne on July 4th from Runners World. The first few weeks look easy. I plan to change up the Thursdays to be Fartlek training days - so that I can work on my speed. I'll keep you posted on progress. Gotta run to get some sleep.

Mr. Scale and I are fighting. He is winning since I've eaten for crude this last week. My official Thursday weigh-in is up 1 pound from last week. Can someone give me a smack in the head so that I get back on track? I haven't done so good since getting home with the stress of work (*sighs*).

On a positive note, my kitty (Jenna) is doing much better this morning. She must have gotten a head injury or eaten some poison. I checked on her at 3 am and she was still staggering but did eat a bunch of treats. This morning she is standing straighter and only stumbles once in a while. She was raring to go outside this morning and came in for the first check with a bounce in her step a few minutes ago. I'll hold on the vet today and see how she is tonight and tomorrow.

Well I have to go get in the shower and gather some equipment for the wonder work day (if I say this, maybe I'll believe it). Have a good Thursday and get in a good last chance workout.

Another Thursday arrives. It's my long day at work- last session with the current group I'm working with :noway: Time flies. So I'll not get out of work until 7:30ish, but if I'm feeling up to it, I would really like to get a rec center run in. I'm usually exhausted after group though, so we'll see. We have someone coming in for lunch today to do an in-servce about prescribing antipsychotics (totes up my alley), and lunch is provided. I have a feeling it won't be super healthy, so the exercise this evening should be helpful.

I'm still up 2 pounds this morning so I imagine weigh in tomorrow won't be pretty. It's okay I suppose as it is TOM gain, but I'm really sick of ups and downs every other week in weight. I know my general trend is weight loss, but it can be frustrating. :grumble:

Hope everyone has a good day. I think even though it will be long, it should go by relatively quickly. It's supposed to be warm here today- in the 80s. Glad I brought my fan into the office. I'll need it! I was a bit tired this morning, but when buying fruit for my group, I picked up a triple grande skinny vanilla latte. Should be ready to go all through the afternoon. haha! It's extra calories for the day, but it's really just the skim milk, and it's good to get the calcium anyways. At least, that's how I justify it to myself.

Thanks for the input, ya'll! It helps to know that I'm not abnormal in my initial C25K efforts. I really want to do this- I want to love it like you guys, so I'll keep trying. There are alot of runners at work as well, and it's nice to be able to share my goals and hear their's as well. I am off tomorow (hooray for a 2 day work week!!) and plan to do day 2 of C25K in the morning before we head to NC for the scottish festival. My eating will be interesting this weekend- but I'll do my best and take my Luna bars for breakfast and snacks. It's interesting- I have not had a TOM since starting on Yaz a year ago, and with all the talk on here about it being everyone's time, it decided to show back up! I sure did not miss it any! Kristina, I'll be right there with you in the morning when I get on my scale and get the bad news. But we will be rewarded next week when this is over and will see a significant drop! Victoria, I'm glad your cat is better, and thanks for letting me know about my ticker (or lack thereof!) Have a great afternoon! Susan
