I'm done making excuses!!

Let's see, this is an introduce yourself thing, so here I go. I'm 28, female, and about 130 pounds heavier than I'd like to be. I've always been big, but this is the heaviest I've ever been. How did I get here?
I feel like I make so many excuses for myself, why I don't eat better, why I don't exercise that much. I've had multiple, serious ankle injuries, so I have lots of scar tissue in my left ankle and in the arch of my left foot. Sometimes my ankle bones "click" out of alignment and a tendon gets squished between two bones till I wiggle it out. That hurts quite a bit, and the scarring limits my mobility and range of motion quite a bit. When I was in college, I worked at a grocery store and fell in a freezer, pinching nerves in both my elbows. Last Christmas, I knitted a lot and now I have pretty serious carpal tunnel in both my wrists. I just finished a master's degree, and ended up super busy and cramming whatever I could find into my mouth at the end of the day. I'm a teacher, and when I come home from work, I'm so mentally and physically exhausted that I tend to cook really unhealthy meals and eat way too much because I'm too busy during the day and end up STARVING when I get home. I'm also a vegetarian, which limits my choices.
I'm done making excuses for myself. Whether I have challenges or not, I NEED to lose weight. I think a doctor told me that for every extra pound I have, it puts 4 pounds of pressure on my ankles. So that means I have an extra 600 pounds of pressure on my ankles!!! Yikes!!

I am a lot like you. I make excuses for myself all the time. I have a bad knee and scoliosis. My back and knee are always hurting but I have had to stop letting it be an excuse. I weigh 120 lbs more then I should as well. We get to a point where we just have to say enough is enough and I am going to do this. I don't know if you have access to a pool but swimming is an amazing full body workout and it will put less stress on your ankle. Also, I pre make all my family's meals on Sunday so that we can all eat healthy throughout the week. If I don't I end up making unhealthy choices as well!
One thing I want to say is, you are not alone. There are a lot of people out here who understand how hard this is. If you need any support there are people here, like me, who would be happy to help!0 -
I make excuses a lot too... I'll do really good for awhile and then I'll use something like being sick or being too busy to let things slide... You'll find lots of great people on here to support you. Feel free to add me and we can do this together!0

You can do this! Don't look at 130 pounds. Think about it in much smaller increments. 20 pounds here, 10 pounds there, and before you know it you'll be posting your Success Story
Do you belong to a gym? I go to the gym at the university where I work and they have trainers there who will work with people who have physical limitations like the ones you just described. I think swimming or water aerobics might be a good choice, but I would definitely recommend getting a professional opinion.
I'm a vegetarian too! Well sort of. I'm a pescatarian. But I do eat mostly vegetarian. I'll send you a friend request. Feel free to browse my food diary for healthy vegetarian meal ideas.
Typical breakfasts:
Chocolate chip oatmeal (from scratch, not a packet)
Hard boiled eggs and whole wheat toast
Scrambled eggs and Morningstar Farms veggie sausage
Typical lunches:
Baked potato with cottage cheese and salsa
Homemade veggie soup (made with beans for protein)
Subway veggie patty sub
Hugh veggie salad with one of the following for protein: chickpeas, tuna, beans, shrimp, Morningstar Farms black bean burger patty
Dinners:
Veggie frittata with salsa and tortilla chips
Vegetarian tacos or fajita or taco salad
Whole wheat penne pasta with tomato pasta sauce, spinach or kale, and white beans
Homemade veggie pizza (whole wheat crust or use a wheat tortilla as a crust)
Stir fried veggies with tempeh and brown rice
Curried veggies with tofu
Snacks = healthy carb + protein
Apple, pear, clementine/tangerine, or banana with pistachios, almonds or peanut butter
Greek yogurt with homemade granola
Veggies with hummus
Hope this helps!0 -
The extra 4 lbs of pressure thing is true. It's also 4 extra pounds of pressure on the knees and 9 extra pounds on the hips. Thats why I try to land softly when I jog and choose low impact exercises whenever possible.
I'm glad you are tossing the excuses aside. I am a firm believer that you can have RESULTS or you can have your excuses. Good luck to you and stay strong. Take some of the hope and determination you have now and save it for a rainy day. And use it if you ever feel like giving up or giving yourself an excuse. Be your own super hero and refuse to give up on yourself.0 -
Set smaller goals! Set a goal to lose 5 or 10% of your total weight. Then reward yourself. Something really nice like a massage. Get up a little earlier and do a 10 minute work out. Yoga maybe? A bike!! You will be shocked at the energy it will give you. Consistently drink your water! Carry quick snacks you can eat, such as seeds, nuts and fruit. On the weekend prepare a few good healthy main dishes and freeze them. Get a crock pot! Don't bring unhealthy food into the house. (This is some of the great advice I got on this site!)
You can do this!0
