Best advice you've had?

I have had so many ups and downs in my weight this year and have become very
frustrated over it. But very recently I read a piece of advice in a fitness book
(can't remember the name, sorry) and the author said to stop trying to fix
everything at once. Pick one area and work on that. When you have
mastered that hopefully in a week or two, you can move on the next area
and so on. The whole point is to just try to make better choices so that
each day you can improve a little more. Aim to make the next day just a little
bit better than today. This has allowed me to calm down and focus better. It
sounds so simple and straightforward but I was stressing myself out so much
that I wasn't able to see that. Now I am wondering...what is the best weight
loss/fitness/healthy lifestyle change advice have you ever gotten?

One of my coaches in highschool always said something that has stuck with me through the years. "Practice doesn't make perfect...it makes habits." This quote he said has motivated me to think about all aspects of my life and make sure I'm not just going through the motions. Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Bit more of a motivational quote than fitness advice, but still relevant:

No-one can go back and make a different beginning. But you can start now and make a different ending.
  • Intermittent fasting from an Horizon programme last year and internet research. I have my last meal at 6pm on monday and then have a waitrose finest soup at 2pm tuesday after going to the gym, and normal meat veg meal and some fruit in the evening. I do the same on thursdays, (so two 18hr fasts a week) the rest of the days of the week I eat 'real food' 3 times a day with no snacks between meals, and do cycling Karate and Wing Chun. Fasting has put me in control of eating and given me an understanding of hunger, its not so bad to be hungry, it comes in waves and can be overcome with perciveirence, also giving the body a rest from food has huge health benefits such as, balancing blood sugar, lowering growth hormone (reduced risk cancer and brain degeneration), enhancing the bodies ability to repair cells, switching you from burning glycogen to burning stored fat and many many more, the evidence for the health benefits is huge, seriously. as for stress and self control, try tia chi or yoga, connect with yourself and live in the moment. Fantastic job on your weight loss, well done, never give up
