Having Trouble With Sugar...

I am having no trouble at all making it under all my all my Cals, Carbs, Cholesterol, Fat, and Sodium goals for the day. However, I'm always coming up just above my sugar goal, sometimes well over... Even with exercise I find myself still over. I like flavorful food just like most people so I think that's why I am finding it so hard to stay under the number.

How's your protein intake? It should be at least 60-75g per day to increase your muscle mass and rev your metabolism. Start tracking that and you'll be surprised that, as you eat more eggs, meat, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, etc to meet protein, you will naturally not eat things that have as much sugar. For example, if you eat a bowl of oatmeal, it has about 30g of sugar and under 5 g protein. For the same calories, you could eat two eggs and a sprinkle of cheese. 15 g protein and under 5g sugar. Easy peasy! Good luck!0

I'm over on sugar. EVERY. DAY. I don't even track it on my desktop version, but it's there on my app on my iPad.
I like fruit, and I like chocolate. I'm destined to be over. But I'm still losing weight so I guess I just don't care about it.0 -

If you personally dont have an issue with processing sugar, then it shouldnt be as much of a problem. I am hypoglycemic so, i have to watch how much sugar I take in. If you were Diabetic, have PCOS, thryoid issues, etc, you should also probably watch your sugar intake.
Also, if your sugar is mostly fruit, then I wouldnt worry about it as much either...fruit has natural sugars compared to processed sugars. If they arent "junk" sugars and you dont have an issue yourself with sugar, then I wouldnt let it bother you as much.0 -
There are loads of threads on this. Not sure why you associate sugar with flavour, there are many other ways to add it. Most people go over just eating dairy, fruit and veggies, MFP does not distinguish between added sugar and intrinsic sugars. If you want to cut back choose your fruit and veg accordingly - there is a wide variation from 0g per 100g for mushrooms to 16g per 100g for sweetcorn. Avoid anything processed, most have salt and/ or sugar added.0

best solution? don't track the sugar.0

I'm over every day too. I used to not monitor it as I got so frustrated by never being able to stay under. Just stay under on everything else and make good choices and you'll be fine.0

I am over sugar every day too! I figure as long as it is mostly from fruit and not from snacking it is okay. I am vegan and mostly eat plant based foods, don't have a predisposition to diabetes so I'm not going to worry about it.0

Thanks for all the feedback. Really appreciate it.0

A cup of plain unsweetened yogurt and a cup of strawberries put me over my sugar allowance. I pretty much ignore it.0
