Protein and gas

So yesterday I ate 27 oz of chicken for lunch (169g protein) and I still haven't "passed it" but today I have incredibly bad gas. Not overly frequent, but when I do it's awful.......Like clear an office building awful. Has anyone else had experience with this? Should I stop eating protein or do I just need to spread it out over a lot of small meals? Should I be drinking shakes instead of whole foods?

You have to stick with it for a month.

I think the fact that you only ate 18g of fibre (and 0g of fibre at lunch) is probably your bigger problem. I'd suggest to make a sign that you are a stinky boy and wear it around your neck for the rest of the week.

Sounds like you need to do a coffee colon cleanse, and a full body detox if that wasn't free range chicken.

Definitely the protein. Carnivores have the stinkiest gas out there.

My brother was talking about this a while ago and how awful his college gym smells because of the guys who overdo the protein. He said your body will get used to the higher amount after a while though. But you may have no friends by that point ;)

I haven't heard of the coffee colon cleanse but sounds like it's worth a shot. Do you think I could do this at home?(found some stuff on line?) or do I have to go somewhere to get it done? What kind of detox would you suggest? Do I need that in addition to the colon cleanse?

Its fine. You'll get through it. Just make sure you get enough fiber.

Well Jac, you look like a partier... so I'm going to assume you have a beer bong right? Or any kind of funnel with a tube really... take a fresh pot of coffee (AFTER IT'S COOLED DOWN, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!) Put the tube in your balloon-knot, using lube as needed for personal preference, and have a friend/coworker/person on the bus next to you, begin to pour the coffee in. Depending on your sexual preference this may take some time. Once the pot of coffee is down (or up, depending on your viewpoint) It's recommended you add some lemon juice (to freshen up) and some lavender oil to help you relax. Rinse and repeat as necessary.

I don't know a lot about detoxes actually, but the typical beginning is a 24 hour fast. I'm sure you can find a lot of information while your chewing on your fingernails by hour 18.

How do I add fiber without adding calories? Just to get in my 360g of protein is 1944 calores. And thats if I eat chicken. Once in a while I would like to have some beef/etc but I am trying to keep my cals under 2000 so I don't get fat.

If I ate 27 oz of beans or broccoli I'd also get gas yet I don't from a regular serving, so how much of that gas is the food itself and how much is my complete lack of portion control? Eat balanced meals and a balanced diet, work on your digestive health with prebiotics and probiotics, remember to take small mouthfuls and chew your food more thoroughly than you think you need to. Your current diet is likely to be supporting a highly undesirable balance of gut flora.

Your fibre intake was less than half of what is recommended - 14g per 1000 cals minimum IIRC. Also look low on minerals and you ate way over the recommended 10% of daily calories on processed/ sugary/ refined/ junk. Don't see any essential fatty acids, fruit and veg, dairy.

    Tae Bo.

Tae Bo will help you pass the chicken and expel the accompanying gas within 15 to 20 minutes. It will also anabolize the protein from the chicken into long lean muscle.

    1. Tae Bo and chicken.
    2. Stay under 2000 calories.

    1+2=Long lean muscle.

I was just about to post this. I went from a very low protein vegetarian diet, to a very high protein vegetarian diet, to a moderate amount of protein vegan diet. It was the worst when I would consume 150g+ protein daily. My entire house smelled lol. Now I eat around 60-70g vegan protein and it's still pretty bad. I do IF and I thought that might be what's making it worse. Basically all of my protein is from protein powder that I put in my oatmeal. Idk what to do.

ETA: I've been taking in a good amount of protein since about July/August or so and my body still isn't used to it even though I've reduced my intake.

Well, cows (which are also vegan, I am in now way referring to someone as a cow) contribute large amounts of greenhouse gases with their flatus. Me thinks the vegans are stinky.

So why did you eat over 3000 calories of absolute crap yesterday? Non starchy vegetables and low sugar fruits are sources of fibre but low calorie. Nuts and seeds (instead of chicken) are decent sources of protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals - ground flax or chia are the highest in fibre and also good sources of omega-3 essential fatty acids. You don't need white bread, sweet tea, fries, the sugar in flavoured yohurt, Gummi worms or a Magnum for protein, eat beans and lentils or wholegrains if you want carbs, fibre and a dose of minerals. Chicken breast is really not very nutritious, try oily fish.

SO how exactly should I get 360 g of protein and all this other stuff and stay under 2000 cals? I need 2g protein/lb of LBM in order to gain muscle but I don't want to get fat.

Oily fish is higher in fats and mercury levels can cause other issues. nuts and seeds are generally lower in protein and higher in fats.......again.......higher calories. I ate over 3k because I am still working on getting it in check. the 360g protein and 2k cals is my goal......Your personal attack against me and my diary does nothing in helping me to get there.

I think it's either the protein, IF, or a combination. Although it was worse when I was using whey protein because I'm mildly intolerant lol.

Broscience? Do you want diseases of malnourishment, dehydration, renal failure or bowel cancer? Anorexics want to be thin more than they want to be healthy, there are many other forms of disordered eating.

Whoever told you you NEED that much protein and NEED that much of a deficit is clearly not qualified to degree level in nutrition or dietetics or is completely ignoring the published literature. A healthy metabolism/ energy production needs a wide range of nutrients including the ones that are classed as essential like vitamins, minerals and omega-3s. Foods like dairy and oily fish are associated with lower body fat, nuts are not associated with higher body fat despite their fat content.

He can make the nutrients he needs from the protein, I saw it on a documentary. We don't NEED vegetables!

But cows do not eat protein, so there goes that theory. Perhaps plant fibers are more difficult to break down and generate a fair amount of bacterial output?

Of course I don't want cancer or renal failure. That's a silly question. I am not dehydrated.....I drink a gallon of water per day. Can I ask you what degree you have in nutrition? I'm not saying your wrong but I have read something completely different. And it's been published literature. Can you point me to some legit peer reviewed studies that support your hypothesis? I take a multivitamin. That should cover most of the stuff you are talking about I would think.

There was NOTHING personal in my post, you are imaging that I actually critiqued inanimate objects - it's you accusing/ attacking me and leaping to conclusions! Please research reputable scientific sources as regards mercury levels and omega-3 essential fatty acids, .

Bad karma is the worst toxin of them all.

Only a soul detox can cleanse that stuff. And those are expensive.
