I usually love having a drink and would easily get through 4-5 bottles of red a week BUT now I have cut down considerably. no point in me drinking diet this and vodka that , I'd much prefer to have a proper drink ever so often . I noticed ever since I drank heavy from 2010 , I started putting on the weight . so I am laying off it till I see results and will only social drink x0

I just cut alcohol from my diet... trying to go 3 months without it (might not be possible on the season opener of the Flyers vs Pens.. GO FLYERS!!) but I am hoping to see what will happen if I don't drink for 3 months. Then 6... then 9... Though... 1 drink a night shouldn't hurt you... in fact some studies say its beneficial. Regardless... for fat loss, 3+ drinks a day will hurt that loss0

Gave it up completely while doing the Whole30 Dec. 3 - Jan. 3rd. The last week I "gave in" to that darn honey whiskey and I can already feel the negative effects on my body. So I'm going back to cutting it out altogether; during those 30 days I found it "forced" me into drinking my water, water, and more water! I slept better and just felt better overall.
I'm sure it's not the same for everyone - everyone metabolizes it differently. The older I get, the more I feel it, even with drinking very little of it.
Good luck!

There is much focus here on calories, and it is true, alcoholic drinks contain a lot of useless calories. But, for those losing weight it is better to cut it out. More than a couple of drinks can lower the metabolism, and therefore the fat burning process, by up to 70%0

The studies have come to one conclusion. An half glass (60ml) of 12% red wine MAY help lower blood pressure, aid digestion and a couple of other factors. No, you cannot save up the half glasses, it does not work like that.0 -
Yeah the Bud Select 55 maybe was not as tasty, but i slapped a couple of limes into them and it made it better When I was heavier, I could pound back alot of beer, but as one loses weight, the alcohol takes effect quicker, so a lighter alcohol content beer was also appealing. So I could drink like normal but not be completely wasted.0

I just eat less during the day to fit it in my calories0

I eat a lighter lunch or workout more in the daytime and stick to limiting myself to one to two glasses of Red Wine and have it usually with my supper meal0

I've cut down on drinking alcohol significantly since I started my weight loss journey. I was drinking two or three times a week and now I drink maybe once a month, if that. I set aside one day a month for a "cheat day" and pretty much have whatever I want and alcohol is ALWAYS included lol If its a spur of the moment thing though, I will just eat less at dinner or not have a snack that day to balance out my calories.0

When I'm training for long distance runs I SIGNIFICANTLY cut back...but there's no way I'm ever going to cut it out of my life forever unless I have to for health reasons/pregnancy. I like my alcohol. Plain and simple.0

im just about to go for a run to "earn" my drink(s) tonight0

it's definitely a weak spot for me. i like my wine!
i definitely try to put in extra time at the gym and always *try* to prepare for the extra calories if i am going out.0 -
I've just cut down - both food and drink!! I don't think its realistic to cut it out completely, not when most people here socialise in the pub. Corona light is only 100 cals per bottle and on the occasion I drink white wine I water it down with diet soda water.. makes a lovely refreshing spritzer - still drinking but the cals go further :-)0

I've almost completely cut alcohol because of the calories. I love me a good single malt scotch, but at 70 calories per ounce, it just doesn't fit into my lifestyle most days.0
-
I've recently cut most of it out of my diet. And I will save cals if I know I'm going out. Sometimes, that's why I hit the gym!0

I don't count alcohol.. I also don't eat back my exercise calories. So I think it balances out. I only drink on the weekends and you can get lower calories drinks. I'm still losing weight and i'm healthy. So.. it's all in what else you do to compensate for it. I want to be able to go out and have some drinks on the weekends.. cutting out drinking is not something i want to do, but I am also willing to put in the effort to be able to do that..0

Last year I lost 20 lbs while still drinking alcohol. I just worked it into my calories.
This year, for a myriade of reasons, we are cutting out alcohol all together till April. My husband said, just last night, that he already feels so much better. I don't notice a huge difference but as our Adventure Race training progresses, I am sure I'll notice it. We love beer in our house. When worrying about calories, I drink Yuengling Light. I am only into craft beers.0 -
Until recently, I had never realized how many calories were in alcoholic drinks! How many of you have cut alcohol out of your diet completely or significantly since starting your diet? How do you even fit it in? Do you purposely eat less when you know you may be drinking socially or do you just not drink now?
I'm just really curious, it took me an hour debating myself on whether or not to have a drink with my boyfriend tonight. Lol! I finally decided on one 166 calorie beer. Holy cow!
Dry white wine and soda water - one standard glass of wine containing one unit of alcohol is well under 100 calories.0 -
Don't know if it helps, but I what I do is to never drink at home. I don't keep it around, so I only end up drinking if I go out with friends or my boyfriend, which limits me significantly because it's so much more expensive!
Also, I'm an Oregonian- there's so much good beer around here, I can't bring myself to drink the crappy stuff!0 -
I could count the number of drinks i've had in the past 2 years on my fingers and toes (I would say almost half was this past holiday season with wine).. I don't worry about the calories since i have so few drinks, but if i have a set goal i have to reach, i won't have any until after the time/goal has come and past.
Maybe it's partly because of where i live that i drink so little, but alcohol is at least double the cost here as in the states (at least in florida, anyway), i just can't justify spending that kind of money on something i barely even like anymore..0
