I reached my goal weight today! It took me longer than I thought it would to lose 20 pounds, but I'm so happy the day is finally here. :) I joined back in July with a few friends, I met more friends on the site, and we've all been supporting each other ever since. I feel like I've finally been able to make a healthy lifestyle change. It doesn't feel like I've been on a diet for 6 months!

I just wanted to share my story and picture of what a 20 pound weight loss looks like on someone my height to provide motivation to any newbies who might need it. When I first started, I loved looking through the success stories to see all the people who'd worked so hard and reached their goals.

I love sweets and having a glass of wine here and there, so I didn't want to give those things up entirely for the sake of weight loss. I still went to dinners out, friend's birthdays, ate cake, celebrated, and still managed to slowly lose the weight. I worked out on a second hand elliptical fairly regularly, but slacked off a little when life got hectic. I'm going to work hard to continue to keep the weight off. I hope to see all MyFitnessPal friends meet their goals soon too.

If you're just starting, the best advice I can give is to find supportive and positive people to join the journey with you. It makes all the difference in the world. Best of luck!

Dang. I hope my hips and thighs look like yours when I'm done.

    Great job!
  • OMG those are my exact stats. I was 135 (last time) about 3.5 years ago and shot up to 175 lbs. Managed to lose the first 20 lbs but now fluctuate from 145-155 (ok.....160 if I'm binging a lot) and am focused on 135 lbs. Most times my eating habits keep me at 155 but I know that I can get my goal body back!!

I like that you still have sweets (and wine!!!!!!!!!). I am not willing to go on crazy diets (or give up alcohol:drinker: ) to lose these 30 lbs. But I want to be healthy. Its all about balance. Exercise is the easy part (for me) but moderation in eating, instead of unhealthy cycling is my obstacle.

You are an inspiration!!!! BMI charts say that 154 at 5'7'' is healthy, but it is on the edge. Its all about how the person feels at goal. And I'm on a one-way train to 135-town!!

    Hugs!

Thanks everyone for the nice comments and feedback. :) I'm glad it's helpful to some of the newbies.

Here's a little more about how I did it: I was really good about exercise the first few months. I'd say I used the elliptical 3 or 4 times a week for 15 to 45 minutes each time and went on walks with the dogs. Nothing extreme. I lost most of my weight by the end of October.

I tried to stick to 1200 calories per day, but I went over A LOT. I did horrible during the holidays and quit logging for a week or two, but I got back to it afterward and finally lost the last few pounds.

The main thing is to not beat yourself up when the scale stays the same for a while. Sometimes it was WEEKS between any weight loss for me. Just keep at it, and keep doing your best. I figured even if I went over 500 calories, it was a still a lot less over than I would've gone before joining MFP. :)

Just stick with it and have realistic expectations as far as the time goes. Good luck!
