Bloating!

Hi Guys!!

I'm trying to get rid of my bloated stomach and I wondered if anyone had any suggestions (and if the ones I am about to mention actually work!)

I currently drink between 1l and 2l of sparkling water a day (as I hate plain water) - is it better to have a squash or something instead and give up the fizzy's? I don't drink any coke or anything, just sparkling water.

I like bread and pasta!! I have reduced these in my diet (well done me!) But should I give them up? I currently eat weight watchers Danish bread (55cals a slice) and pasta once a week, and rice probably twice/3 times a week. Should I try to give these up?? I probably wont be able to give up rice completely, but the other two I think I could manage.

Any other suggestions for me?

Thanks guys :-)

Tiffani xx

    bump??
  • So with you on the bloating thing!

I would say try and drink less fizzy stuff - anecdotal I know, but I find I bloat like crazy as soon as I have anything fizzy! Maybe try (if you don't already) wholegrain rice/pasta?

I also find doing squats helps, as does nettle tea - I tried it in desperation for a hayfever cure, but I found it got rid of a lot of my bloating as well! Nettle (or dandelion) tea works better for water-related bloating. It might take a week or so to get used to the taste, but once you start drinking the stuff you won't want to stop :) Peppermint or fennel tea is good if you think the bloat is to do with your digestion.

Hope that might give you some help - look forward to seeing other ppls thoughts!

I second dandelion tea! I will drink a couple cups of it the night before a big night out (which will usually involve a small dress), and I'll also stay away from pasta, bread and fizzy drinks a couple of days in advance if I feel REALLY bloated. Keep away from fiberous veggies too, like broccoli. That bloats me like a you-know-what!

Ok this may be TMI, but getting a colonic has helped with my bloating. It just kind of cleans everything out.

Bread bloates me out too, I think it's the additives in it as I'm fins with home made bread. Although saying that, EVERYTHING seems to bloat me out. Don't know if it's water retention or wind but I know where you're coming from, it's the bain of my life!

Just add as much fiber as you can, that should...um... well, speed things up  In my country, there's a fiber supplement you can add to yogurt or oatmeal or stuff like that...or even just ingest it the way it is... Its very good you stopped drinking fizzy drinks, but I wouldnt give up the bread entirely... while its certainly a "white" carb, it doesnt produce bloat, and if you like it, why yearn for it later? :drinker: (thats water for ya lol)

Oh by the way I noticed someone say cut firbrous vegggies out... I wouldnt do that. You might get a bit gassier but you also eliminate it. if you cut the fiber, elimination will be very difficult...

I don't necessarily agree with this, like I said bread does bloat, at least with some people anyway. Adding a massive amount of fibre may add to the problem, not ease it. Bloating isn't always caused by being blocked!

Peppermint tea is also good for bloating as is ginger (I have diet ginger beer)

FYI Dairy can also make me bloated - lactose hurts my insides

theres very little point in cutting out foods you like and will probably return to eating in the future.

im very little and i had a problem with bloating, make sure to try and take wholewheat pastas and rice because your body will be able to digest them better.

also remember that veggies have a high water content, and also if you have introduced any new foods to your diet then that too could have an effect..... change in diet is what caused my bloating - my body wasnt used to it.

    Thanks for all the comments!!

I am cutting out bread to see whether it makes a difference. If it does make a difference, then I will stay off of white bread and just eat whole grains (a minimal amount though!!) I can live without bread - I have it with meals just for the sake of it - it's not like I am going to crave it if I cut it out (and that is why I dont cut out chocolate!!)

My diet hasn't particularly changed, and I haven't introduced any new foods - I have just cut down on the foods that I do eat. Drinking 2l of water a day has actually reduced it slightly - so I am obviously going to keep that up!

My guess would be-Carbonated water and fizzy drinks is making you bloated. Avoid it.

Also-eating too much fiber, too many processed catbs like Pasta, Rice will make you fat and bloated.
  • I am so bloated however i didnt realize Soda Pop contributed to bloating, i will cut out the diet coke! Thanks
  • I have this problem from time to time too. My husband has been making homemade brad, and I think it makes me bloated. It is a miserable feeling and slows down my running, etc. I am trying to each yogurt every day to help with digestion.Has anyone tried any supplements that help?
