My goal for this week is to add some more greens to my diet. I'm thinking of giving green smoothies a try and wanted to know if anyone had any recipe recommendations? I see a lot on pinterest but do they taste good?

Thanks!! :-)

I use some variation on the following:

1 cup skim milk or almond milk
2 cups raw baby spinach leaves
Vanilla whey protein powder (varies amount by brand)
    1 Tbs natural peanut butter

It tastes like a vanilla and peanut butter...the spinach adds no flavor at all that I can detect.

I have one almost everyday. I can't detect any spinach taste at all. Sometimes I make a vanilla PB one like boyurboy posted. These are two of my favorites:

    Pumpkin Pie:
    2 c spinach leaves
    1/2 c canned pumpkin
    1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1/2 c skim milk (maybe a little more milk or water if you need more liquid to blend)
    1/2 t vanilla extract
sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice or a some cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger
    1 teaspoon pure maple syrup
    ice

    Double Chocolate raspberry:
    2 c spinach leaves
1/2 c fresh or frozen raspberries
    1 scoop chocolate protein powder
1 T unsweetened cocoa powder (great source of iron)
    1 Stevia packet
    1/2 c water or milk
    ice

I have one every morning. Here is what I usually do

    1 banana
3-4 cups baby spinach ( I would start off with one or two if this is your first time)
1 cup frozen blueberries OR 1 frozen mango or 1/2 cup frozen blueberries and 1/2 cup frozen raspberries
    1/2 - 1 cup water
add ice if you want it to be thicker.

    hope this helps! :)

Thank you so much for posting this! I also am starting to try to get into "green smoothies" as I have lost my taste for red meat. I made one this AM that was very yummy.... the others I have tried in the past I didn't care for, but I will be sticking with this one as well as trying additional recipes I am seeing here...

  • Have you ever considered juicing? I love the combination of spinach, kale, kiwi, green apple and celery!

My bf has gotten me into juicing and some of it is SOOO good. I feel like anything that adds apples, carrots, and beets together is heaven haha.

For those of you who put the smoothie recipes... are they already save to MyFitnessPal so I can find the nutritional info? If so, what do I look under to do so? If not, can you post nutritional info here to make it easier for all of us? No sense reinventing the wheel, right?
  • I have a kale smoothie every day, the kale taste is a bit stronger than spinach, but it's really filling and kale is SUPER good for you:

    1 cup tightly packed kale
    1 kiwi
    1 cup unsweetened almond milk
    1/2 banana
1 scoop vanilla whey isolate powder (I use Kazein brand)

    Yum! :-)
