Places to stay in Vegas off the strip

It's so cheap to stay ON the strip, even in some of the nicer places. If you are going with close friends, you can ask for trundle beds and they can give you two per room...so you can split a room at least four ways...it's well worth it to stay on the strip - you get in the middle of all the action and you don't have to pay for cabs or waste time waiting for buses or the tram.

My parents love Rio and it is off the strip but there are places on the strip you can get a good price too. It just depends on what kind of place you are looking for. Week nights will always be cheaper than weekends too. Places further down the strip towards downtown will be cheaper than in the middle of all the action, so Circus Circus, Rivera, Stratosphere. I've had luck in the past getting decent prices at the Flamingo and that is right in the middle of the strip.

....plus the large casino-hotels have more amenities and have views and access to more restaurants. Check out Treasure Island, they are usually fairly reasonable, although it is at the far end of the strip.

We got a GREAT rate at TI. If you ask for a south facing room high in the west end of the tower, you will have a wonderful view south of the strip! We paid $70/night for two doubles on the 33rd floor. Awesome view!

Ballys is right about the middle of the strip, and I have seem them down to about $55/night. You won't get a nice view at Ballys though. Imperial Palace & Harrah's often have good rates as well.

Harrah's/Ballys have a free shuttle over to Rio as well.

And Harrahs is also an older, smaller hotel, like Bally's. If I go to LV, I usually stay at TI or Mirage - I like the hotel rooms, they're remodeled and clean, there is a lot to do within a 30 minute walk. If I'm taking someone who's never been to Vegas, it's fun to stay in the mid-strip area, like Paris or MGM. A little more expensive, but worth it for the mid-strip location.

If you do stay at Rio, you can get to the strip on that shuttle, and it takes you mid-strip. Rio is fun, they have that casino parade thingy, and the rooms are nice. Flamingo is a good location, big party pool, older hotel, but I don't think the pools are open in Feb-Mar, are they? So having a pool is not that important in Feb-Mar.

We stayed at Hooters it was like $49 a night last January but we stayed Sunday through Thursday. Pretty nice rooms (very clean) great view of the strip.

I have stayed at the Hard Rock off the strip a few times. Very nice property with a young vib and is not too large.

You could also consider staying downtown on Fremont street. They have upgraded many of the hotels there and the rates are less expensive than the strip.

Exactly. My room at the Golden Nugget was perfectly fine. The view was good too.

Downtown is cheap. A couple of days ago the Quad, formerly Imperial Palace had rooms for $34 a night. It's on the strip and close to everything.

Thanks!! I found a great deal at the Luxor for $430 for the two nights including airfare, which is pretty awesome. Doesn't have the best reviews across the board, but for our purpose, just a place to sleep and change clothes, sounds perfect!

I've stayed at the Luxor a few times, like you said it's perfect for a place to sleep..shower change clothes...etc.
It's a great location and you can take a tram to either Mandalay Bay or Excalibur, really nice on those late nights staggering back to your hotel.

The Plaza - at the end of Freemont Street (old section of vegas)...amazing view, very reasonable price, particularly for groups, and the restaurant is the perfect place to watch the laser light show (if they are still doing that)...it's an older hotel (lower ceilings, etc) but very well kept and they are usually pretty generous with the show tickets too...cute little diner in addition to the more formal restaurant, and only a $10 cab ride to the newer side of vegas...though, it's been a few years since I was there, but I doubt too much has changed.

Dude, things in Vegas have changed a lot in the last three years! ....edit to say, maybe not in old town, but on the strip it's hard to keep up sometimes.

Also RENT A CAR!!!! We got a car for $39 for the whole week! That is the price of 2 cab rides, parking is free everywhere. You will not regret it.

We got a really good deal at the Signature at MGM. It's the 3 towers behind MGM, but they're connected to MGM and you get to use the pools at MGM. We went to VRBO.com (vacation rentals by owner). Our suite was nice. I would do it again.

There is a tram that goes to like 7 different hotels on the strip and goes through the MGM. I think it was like $28 per person for unlimited rides for 5 days. We rode that tram everywhere. Well worth the money.

As a AAA member, I was able to book at the Trump Hotel, 5 stars, for as low as $119 a night. Also, rooms and flights in Vegas are very inexpensive at certain times of the year.

Palace Station is off strip and while not the fanciest hotel in town it is clean and very cheap. This week you could get a room for $22 a night. Another option is Las Vegas Hilton. Nicer than Palace Station but about double the rate. Still reasonable. Excaliber is on the strip and about the same price as Hilton. Of course, it will depend on the time of year and what's going on. If it's NASCAR race week, National Rodeo week or there's a big convention in town, nothing will be cheap.

I went around 5 or 6 years ago now, but we stayed at Terribles Hotel/Casino. It was at the end of the strip (not the Old Vegas end, the other end) it was kind of across the street from the Hard Rock. We just got bus passes and took the bus to the strip everyday we were there. I was in walking distance also, it was just too damn hot so we didn't feel like walking and being drenched in sweat when we got to where we were going. Have fun!!! :drinker:

Everytime I go I stay at The Platinum hotel...suites for cheap right off the strip, it's my home away from home.
