Cheat Days

Hey so I was wondering, what some of your definitions of cheat days were, as far as eating goes. Do you just say screw it and eat whatever you want or do you limit it to your calorie allotment, are your cheat days/meals portioned at all, I guess in general I'm just asking what your cheat days are like.

I don't have a cheat day as i'm not on a diet. I eat what i want when I want, in moderation and exercise. I find if I want the chocolate it's better for me to eat the little piece then wait till a specific day and eat the entire box of them. I'm looking for health for life, so having a cheat day negates my entire goal.

I don't deprive myself, once in a while yes I do eat something I am not suppose to. Then next time I go to the gym I really hit it hard. You can't be too hard on yourself , as long as you eat healthy and exercise you will be alright.

I don't have cheat days. They aren't built into my plan. If I had to define one, it would be going over my calorie allotment or not tracking (and therefore likely going over because of it).

I've set my person rules up so that not only are there not any cheat days, but I get rewarded for not cheating. Once I cheat it is far too easy to fall off the wagon. So for every week (Saturday - Friday) that I don't cheat, I have given myself permission to buy a prize. The prize has a monetary limit of $60 (so I can buy video games), and it cannot be food. Obviously this also requires self discipline - my sister asked me couldn't I just buy whatever I wanted anyway. The answer is yes, of course, but a lot of times I find myself putting off buying fun things like I'm not allowed, so this is a nice way to give myself permission to buy things.

  • I eat what I want but I still tend to choose things that I feel are healthier unless I'm having a mad craving. Mainly, I just make sure I don't over eat and stuff myself.

I don't complain when I gain a pound or when I feel like crap cause i made a bad food choice. That was the whole point of my post that you missed. lol. yep.. eating 600-800 calories a day is a problem Thankfully i'm getting that under control and getting it up to where it needs to be. So obviously whatever i'm doing is working, since I am hitting more then that most days.. and i'll do it wthout complaint.

Cheat days dont' work. Depriving yourself just makes you crave something more and you're more likely to over eat it when you do have it. That leads to fraving more sweets and more unhealthy foods.

The most importnat thing is to acknowlege that everything you eat is your choice. So you can choose to eat it or not to eat it and you can chooe the better stuff on the menu.

    lol.
    ok.
I was referring to a differnet post, not this one, as were you.
    not to mention.
A whole like 10 chocolate covered pretzels constituted "the whole box". lol
Oh and they were dark chocoalte.. lol healthy chocolate right?
    omg.. that's a lot.
    ha ha.

Don't worry.. I won't pick apart what you eat. I dont' care that much.
Just tired of hearing people complain about not being able to lose weight, when they eat all this unhealthy crap all the time.
Sorry if you don't like that sentiment.

I'm going back and answering some of my questions in a retrospective to help assist those that may find this, The Answer is Cheat days are defined MANY different ways, to cheat can be to go over your calories, it can be to break your macros, or it can be just to stick to both calories and macros but doing it with "Crap" or processed food i.e. Mcdonalds, It's recommended to find a healthy balance, Eat six days a week hitting all three marks; Calories, Macros and with whole healthy organic food, and on the seventh rest, Eat whatever BUT make sure not to go over your calories, you can screw macros and Organics for today, tomorrow will be weird as the carb type will cause some water retention and a couple other things but if you need it, to stay sane to stay on this train, DO IT. What I've done is try and find a happy medium, I've tried to find things I love and substitute them, with healthier alternatives; Pizza, I make it from scratch now with all my own fresh organic ingredients, Fries, I make them now, using sweet potatoes, LOVE sweet potatoes, Burgers, Nachos, Ice creme, Cake ... Etc. All that I still have or at least can have I just try and find healthier alternatives, It causes some stress and some irritation but nothing good comes easy, Do I occasionally cheat, sure based on my definition YUP, I call it crashing, but Once I'm done i suck it up, and say today were not doing that **** anymore. So Cheat Days, have em' if you need em' just learn from em' as a cheat day is you holding on to remnants of an unhealthy lifestyle that you obviously chose to move on from, so move on.

I still don't do cheat days. I don't see the need for them. I eat what I want, if I want it and choose to eat it. Weight is still off despite having fallen off the wagon this last 2 months. I do log alcohol now though. I think the whole phrase "cheat day" makes this whole thing feel like a diet. I'm not on a diet. I'm just eating to fuel my body. I still have a hard time stopping at 1 piece of chocolate or 1 cookie. So I usually just don't buy those things. then I can't eat them, problem solved. Although I've been way off kilter lately. I agree that people define cheat in many different ways. I don't think it's a cheat, when you do any of those things. It's a choice and I think calling it a cheat is avoiding responsibility for your choices. I chose those cookies. For example: I didn't cheat on my diet, as i'm not on a diet. I chose to eat something that is counter productive to my goals. I now have to choose to get back on track or continue on my derailed path.

For me I just don't track and I am not thinking about it. I don't go out of my way to be crazy and just stuff myself unnecessarily. I just don't log - eat what I want and call it a day. Back to the grind the next day. Some cheat days I end up eating a crazy amount of food and other days I'm barely over what I would have eaten anyway. Just depends on what is going on that day.
