Measurement Woes!

A personal trainer pal of mine suggested I measure my waist, hips and neck since the scale was sort of depressing me. I was all set to be stoked on measuring day and then to my surprise, I had gained a half inch in almost every area. The next check in, I dropped those half inches in waist and neck but gained another half inch in my hip area. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! It did work to improve my relationship with the scale because it showed I had lost some weight but still!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. I am working so hard.
And today I have lost in hip and neck areas but GAINED in waist. WTH people? Is my body fat just running back and forth between my neck, hips and waist? Is it even going anywhere? I try to keep in mind that I am eating all the right foods and hardly any of the wrong ones and I am working out better and more than ever! I try. BUT, I also want to lose some stuff, inches, pounds and the like. I feel so shlumpy now. :grumble:

How much time are you allowing between measuring? You have to be patient. The weight didn't come on in a week so we can't expect it to go off in a week or two.0

I just had same issue. Ive been busting my hump walking and doing taebo everyday. I've lost a couple pounds and half inch on hips but waist got inch bigger. It feels toner and smaller but I was wondering same thing. Is it just readjusting or am I building muscle in the wrong place or what? It's frustrating!0

I have found that the hardest thing about measuring is making sure to measure in the EXACT same spot. And making sure the measuring tape is straight can be kinda tricky too.
I also discovered (accidentally) that depending on how straight I am standing and how much I am tightening my stomach (I do it subconsciously all the time) can affect my measurements by .75 inches.0 -
My friend was told by her nurse in their office that she should measure every 2wks..Maybe try going a lil longer..I never measured until last week and now wish I would have started it when I started everything else..It'll get better..You're doing great!!0

i get measured every 4 weeks at Curves by the same woman who measures at the exact same spot every time. of course, she is leaving at the end of May so we will see how it changes when someone else starts. but consistency is the key. and having someone else do it is better, too, if you can swing it. the first month (before i found MFP) i lost 0 pounds but 5 inches overall!0

I measure 1x a month. and it is tricky to make sure you measure right in the same spot the same way, i usually have to adjust the measuring tape a few times to get it at the same place as before.0
