How many does it serve

Is there any science to determining how many servings should be in a recipe. When creating a recipe on MFP it asks how many serving. A 2.5 lb roast would be how many servings?

Sometimes it's easy to think in terms of burger sizes. A quarterpounder is - guess what - a quarter of a pound. So there'd be 10 of those in your 2.5 lb joint. An 8oz steak is half a pound . I'd say there would be 5 generous portions in your roast.

Thanks, my guess was the 1/4 pound serving. but wasn't sure if I was guessing too small or too big.
  • When I create a recipe, I usually work backwards on this issue. Especially with soups, I take whatever bowl I would normally use to eat from and see how many it made. Then I go back and change the "servings". I guess at the beginning, almost always have to augment it :)

It's usually 4-5 servings in my house. I always make a 2-1/2 pound roast. Making one tonight actually! :drinker:
