Green Smoothies-HELP

So I tried to make a Green Smoothie this morning and failed completely! The ingredients I wanted were 2 cups baby spinach, 1 cup frozen strawberries, 1/2 cup frozen blueberries, 3/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and 1/2 cup plain fat free greek yogurt.

Do you put the ingredients into the blender in a certain order? Because mine would not blend the spinach in AT ALL! :( Any suggestions? Thanks!!

You just need a bit more liquid. Get a cup of water and pour splashes into the blender a little at a time until it starts to blend nicely.

I do a real simple green smoothie each morning - I have an individual blender that makes only 1 - 12oz smoothie:

    1 - 1 1/2 cup spinach
    1/3 banana
    1 kiwi
    1 tbsp flax
    1 tbsp chia seeds
    zero cal flavored water
    Ice
    1 truvia pkt (optional)

    about 100 calories

I do the fruits, chia seeds, flax, spinach, truvia, pour in the water. Since it is all being blended, I don't think the order should matter.... but maybe it does. Hope this helps.

Oh yea, my first go around i used frozen mixed berries (raspberries, blueberries, blackberries) also and the smoothie was purple, not green. Not sure if this is your thought of "failed".

pulse blending and tamping down alternating and maybe try Kale vs. Spinach.

    yummy that sounds really good!
  • Unless you have a Vitamix or other crazy powerful blender, it can be really hard to blend greens and have them incorporated really well. I've found that using a green powder and adding a scoop to my smoothies work best for me and they are concentrated, meaning you will get more greens than if you were using fresh. A scoop of the average green powder gives you seven servings of greens. SEVEN!

I use Amazing Grass, because I find it on sale sometimes, but there are tons of brands you can try.

I have a pretty cheap blender and i never have chunks. I put in only the liquid and spinach first. I blend until smooth then add everything else.

Put the spinach in first and press it down, then liquid, then the heavier stuff. That'll work with most blenders, but you may have to do some tamping in between blending cycles.
