it's a sun star! it's related to a star fish, we found them in our crab pots when fishing off the coast of BC last summer and I HAD to take this picture (though my husband gagged) they're so cool!0 -
And then a sensible comment was posted and I was shocked. No self-loathing and no hating on yourself or anyone. LOVE IT.
I totally agree. It has taken a while to get to this head space - hence the success I am having at making myself healthier. More than anything this is helping me to dial back some of my worst excesses as I can see what it is that I am doing when it is all written down on paper in black and white. No one has done this to me - it is the sum of choices I have made. An unhappy 20s involving excess of alcohol, food and depression (nothing most people didn't live) and culminating in living in my parents basement until I got back on my feet gave me some negatives (too much ice cream and not enough social outings) but it also gave me the opportunity to retrain and eventually meet my husband. Sure I got big in the process but I also got love and two kids along the way.0 -

What about those that want to be elite?
That depends on your definition of elite. Am I elite because I run marathons? Maybe. To do my best doing so means I have to aim to eat 2200 calories a day (believe it or not that's weight loss territory for marathon trainers) and cut out unhealthy fats and snacks in favour of many carb based meals. It's a choice that I make. When I stick to it I have more energy, run harder (and swim harder and bike harder) and don't binge on bad foods. If I don't eat enough during the day I end up binge eating snack foods in the evening which leads to total junk food hangovers. But those days still happen, and I don't sweat them, even if I had 5 months of those days leading up to a marathon I'd still be able to run it, just not at peak performance. And crossing that finish line has always been enough for me!
For those who want to finish faster? the truly elite? they have to be prepared to dig deeper and find the motivation to have those days happen less often. And to them I say kudos!0 -
I LOVE this I have only been here a little over a week and I have already seen this way to much! Everyday is a new one chuck yesterday behind you and step forward and don't look back.0

I totally agree with this....In the beginning it is hard....4 months in, it is hard some days but my skills have gotten better. But early on someone sent me a quote that got me through the hard days. "You don’t have to be PERFECT to be SUCCESSFUL!"...So you are a 30 days in...look back over them...have you been successful 25 of those 30 days??? then great!!! It is better than the month before when everything was crap. Dont count yourselves out for a few bad days when it is hard...your skills will grow and it will get easier!! And this one is on my profile page...."If you focus on results you will never change. If you focus on change, you will get results."0

Very well said. I agree with everything you said. The only thing I would add is ppl need to try to have the mind set that I didn't gain all this weight overnight. I am not going to lose it overnight and be okay with it.

Furthermore: In my case, I love food! And I enjoy changing my menu frequently, experimenting so I enjoy the experience. I can still do some exercise, weather permitting. I like dulce de leche, well, I do not have cravings because I eat a bit when I like, 30 cals in a tablespoon will not kill you.
I have a couple of websites where I have found great recipe info.
A problem. I AM STILL LOOKING FOR THE GREAT LOW CAL BREAD KILLER! Love bread Lol.
I am not in a diet. . . I am in a restricted cal budget, and I can eat what I like within that budget. That's the idea, and I have ENJOYED losing nearly 30 lbs since September with a great one month food oriented vacations in the middle!
I didn't ruin my diet, I enjoyed every day and still watching after my weight.
MFP and my pals support me every day and I learn a lot from them!0 -
Really, it is not a matter of discouraging about a day out, losing weight is easier than gaining so you can make up very easy that food pleasure you have.
Right, to me it is not a binge, it is not a cheat day. It is a food pleasure. And if you overeat, eating a lot you don't enjoy, well, remember it is always easy to say NO Thanks. .
Most people get into "diets". Strange ones, crazy ones. There is so much cr*p out there! Losing weight is easy eating what you like at a pace you can sustain.0 -
