I LOVE my MFP family. I love you all so much. But how do I make friends (particularly the guy persuasion) at the gym? I'm generally friend and personable, but when I'm working out, I feel awkward? I dunno. They give me weird looks, and I just try to smile, you know? The older guys (gives me the skeeves, btw) are usually really nice. It's the young adults/teens that look at me odd. I dunno if it's because I'm "cute" or if they don't think I "belong" there. I don't know. I don't want to be one of THOSE people at the gym where all they do is talk to the people working out, but I want to get to know people. We are all working toward some kind of goal and I just want to make some friends. How do I go about doing that?

Sorry if this comes up twice. It's in a different forum, but I don't remember which one.

i think guys are extra careful about talking to women in the weight room, but you'll find that when you go at the same time and see the same people it's easier for conversations to happen.

most of the conversations i have in the weight room have started because i asked for a spot, people asking each other to work in sets on the equipment, questions about lifts and programs.

Looking to make friends at the gym is liking me looking to find a girlfriend at a strip club. Gym time is serious business and I prefer not to be bothered. I would suggest not trying, just keep going and I would assume at some point someone will strike a conversation with you.
