It would be so much easier if I ate meat

I am a vegetarian for ethical reasons but I find myself "wishing" I could just eat meat.
I think life--and certainly DIETING--would be much easier.
I have thyroid issues so I can't eat too much soy, and I do cottage cheese, beans, quinoa, lentils etc but it is time consuming and sometimes I just don't think I get as full as omnivores.
I see people's food diaries and a piece of bread with one slice of deli meat holds you over as lunch?
I guess there is no point to this post other than to vent. I don't ever see myself eating meat, I just wish there were some more filling/convenient options out there for me. :grumble:

Is it perhaps the mass-market effect you are talking about? Movies like Food Inc. definitely freaked me out...I try to buy my meat from local farmers, and when I do it makes me feel so much better. I know those animals were treated with respect, and they weren't tortured or sick or filled with hormones. Maybe you could ease into meat by doing something like that...if not, I wish you the best in finding a good substitute. It sucks that you can't eat soy, then you could just fill up on fake meat!
and btw..I eat a sandwich everyday for lunch. 2 slices of double fiber bread, light mayo, tons of lettuce, slice of cheese, and 2 oz of meat. Then I usually have baby carrots and natural chips, maybe some fruit or yogurt ~400 cals. It does keep me full! However, if it were just a piece of bread with a slice of meat, I would be starvinggggg  Don't pay any attention to those people...they give sammiches a bad name!0 -
I eat meat, but there's no way in hell one slice of bread with deli meat would do me for lunch!0

Hey there I'm a veggie too and I do sometimes feel how you're feeling. But I have found ways to fill up on meals that don't include meat. Make sure to include lots of veggies in your diet, and fiber also especially in your breakfast. A high fiber breakfast will keep you fuller longer.
I try to make sure that my lunch and my dinner are a nice balance of carbs, protein, and fiber. Whole wheat breads or pastas, hummus with veggies, soups with salad etc.
Here are some resources for you...

I'm not a vegetarian, but I may as well be one. I rarely eat meat. I eat big filling spinach salads for lunch (in addition to the veggies that I put on my salads, I also put 1/3 cup black beans, 1 serving of sliced almonds and 1 ounce of goat cheese). I make my salads on Sundays so that I have them for the whole week. Spinach is a great green for salads because it's hearty and will last the whole week without going bad.
Also, I do a lot of peanut butter, almond butter and hummus (and occasional nuts but I have to be careful because I can way overeat nuts). You just have to be careful about measuring out especially the nut butters so that you don't eat too much. I also do a protein shake at night and not only am I completely satisfied without meat, but I'm getting MORE than enough protein without the meat.0
