200+ (Week 27) Shrinking into Summer

Kristna - thanks for the positive thoughts!!!! FYI - the irregular cycles may have to do with losing weight. I was like a book 28 day regular and now it's off a few days plus spotting every other week. WTF!!! sorry - it may be my shots to Jen talking. I'm also of an age to be close to menapause. You have a few years to go.0

Victoria- I'm so sorry. I don't know what I would do if something happened to Lexi. Don't worry about my leg....that was just the first thing I saw about lower leg pain that didn't involve shin splints or my calves.
kimmrdodge- of course you are welcome to join us!! Kristina (akasullengal) normally posts our new threads (she'll post something here when the new thread is up so we know when to look for it) and Victoria (pinbotchick) keeps the chart for us. Let us know your overall starting weight, your current weight and your goal weight. I think our current challenge ends pretty soon.....(right ladies???)0 -
:brokenheart: I'm so sorry you lost Jenna......I will make sure to pet and love on my two dogs and two cats tonight. My jack russell Bart is 12 years old. My Italian Greyhound Vinny is 10 in July. Bart is the runt and I don't expect him to live up to the 17+ years jacks are known to live...but you never know. I don't even want to think of the day. My cats will be one year old in a month. Jeff named them Foghorn and Leghorn, lol.
Went to Target today...where I proceeded to buy Lil Debbie cake things...the ones that Hostess makes too...the chocolate cake rolled in spiral around the cream and covered with chocolate. Ate one package in the car, hid the rest when I got home. Also bought some mint oreo cookie things. Super sweet. Not sure about those. WHY WHY WHY? I cannot go to Target. That store is the devil for me. Either clothes, random stuff I don't need or sweets my @ss doesn't need!
I guess at least I had extra cals left from yesterday to eat. My one consolation.
My periods are wacked too. Ever since I had G. I was induced two weeks early with her because my blood pressure got to 180/90 and then I had a heck of a time afterwards with bc pills. Every single brand I've tried has increased my bp up that high again where my normal is around 120/70. And then I had the Mirena IUD...months of excruciating back cramps, weight gain, constantly feeling like I had a cloud over my head depression and irritably b!tch all the time. So now I do nothing. Not worth it. I just deal with the zits, and such.
Oh and this month my hair is falling out even more than normal. Not sure what vitamin deficiency causes that, but then not sure why this month I also puffed up like the stayed puff marshmallow man for a week either.
I'm gonna watch Deadliest Catch and at least one hour of BL and then hit the sack!
Night girls!!0 -

Welcome kimmrdodge!
And yeah Kendall...our challenge ends soon.....I don't look at the graph right now lol.0 -
Ladies...I am so sorry for your TOM issues and I do hope that I have not brought them to the group:embarassed: ....You sound like you are going thru the same crap that I have been dealing with.....I'm an old lady though:laugh: .....my troubles started about age 38....OMG, it's been 6 years of me trying to get this figured out!! Good Gravy!!
Victoria, you know my thoughts are with you!!
Lacey...you back away from those Lil'Debbies....they are the devil  , Look over the package ingre carefully....our favorites we found had the hidden hygrogenated fats in them....we all loved the zebra cakes and even my kids would take them in for birthday treats all through grade school (we had to purchase store bought items to share...no homemade stuff) I about flipped when I started learning more about what was in them....my poor children......
Welcome Kim....I'm not doing so well this challenge, so I'll be ready to start the new one soon!!0 -
Thanks for all the support!!!
I finally broke down and got Thia takeout last night. Oh that Chicken Pad Thai and Spring Roll were really great. By some miracle, I only ate half... Not sure if I'll eat the rest today or tomorrow. I am drooling just thinking about it.
DH had a pure melt down yesterday and left work early. He was an emotional mess all day. He is still pretty bizarre today and just asked if he could go down to Yspi with me SHOCK!!! He is talking about running with me - DOUBLE SHOCK!!!! So you may get to meet him Kristina. His clingyness may wear off by then and he may get back to normal... He thinks he can be prepared to run a 5K in 2 weeks. It must have been the biggest loser last night. Did anyone catch it? We watched the first hour with the 5K - how inspirational. The rest is taped for tonight. He has plans for us to take the "long walk" to the bar/restaurant tonight - 4 miles with some jogging as we do it. Yeah - I'll believe it when he does it.
I missed my running with yesterdays mess so I plan to get some in tonight before the long walk - I'll need to burn as many cals as possible with eating dinner out plus the Thai leftovers. Gotta run and get ready for work.0 -
If I go to the gym, it'll be another c25k day today. I liked jogging for those 3 minutes last time, so I think I'll try to follow week 3 as closely as possible. Instead of jogging the second 3 minute section, I'll turn it into a 90 second jog. I think I read somewhere that the muslces that are hurting me are what control the straightness of my feet. I might be running a little pigeon toed.
***Here's your TMI warning***
I had a cheeseburger when I went out with Shaun last wednesday. I had a cheeseburger again Sunday night for my birthday dinner at my parents. (angus beef both times I think) Thats the only thing I can think that would cause this but DANG I have had a severe smelly gas problem ever since last week!! I hardly ever eat fast food and I haven't bought meat other than ground turkey since I moved back in my house 2 months ago. I can't wait for this to be over! Its enough to make ME leave the room!0 -
Good luck with the running Kendal. It may be your shoes - how old are they? When I went to the running store, I learned that I pronate when running and now have special shoes designed to give me more support in the arches - my feet really do feel better running in them.
So I got off my tush and got in a 3 mile run. I've been out to see 1 client and another canceled so I made good use of the 90 min break. Now I have 12 min to take a quick shower and get out the door!!! I think I'm going to be late for the 12:30 session... FYI don't eat Thai food leftovers for breakfast and then run - it sits in the tummy in not a good way.
Happy Hump Day!!!0 -
What is it with us and thai food? haha! Even after a fab day of exercising yesterday my weight is still up three pounds from last week. wtf. I have not eaten enough calories to be up that high. *fumes* I'm hoping for some sort of miracle by Friday.
So, I woke up this morning and was in a bit of a funk and just plain tired, so I took a half day- rested up a bit and was ready to work by lunch time, so I have been productive today so far and should be for the rest of the day. As I slept through breakfast, calories shouldn't be a huge problem for me today, especially when I work out. I'll neeed to think about what I want to eat for dinner. Hmm... Maybe some sauteed veggies and brown rice. That's always a good standby.
Plan is to go for a run today as I've punked out this week on it like whoa. I don't know what's wrong with me. I feel so good and proud of myself afterwards, and I have to kick it up. 5K in 2 weeks with Victoria (and hubby?)! And yes, I caught the first hour of the biggest loser and watched them run the 5K. Inspiring- missed the second half cause Glee is my priority! The one guy ran the 5K in 21 min- that's pretty crazy fast- I think he was saying it wasn't, and I was like :noway: My short legs couldn't carry my that quickly. So yeah, as long as the weather holds up, I need to power through a good run. I won't hit my 2 long runs goal this week. The weekend weather set me back, but should hit my cardio goal though definitely. Whew. Now if only my weight would get in line. *cracks whip*
Hope everyone is doing okay today!0 -
I finally tossed the package of Lil Debbies...after I ate THREE, yes THREE, packages of them. It was on the second to the last bite that I remembered the tasty cream part in the middle was whipped oil with flavoring and gagged. Tossed the rest and done. It is weird too...the outside chocolate shell tasted like salt. Weird.
THAI FOOOD!!!!! YUMMMMMM that and sushi and mexican....yum0 -
oh wow Lacey, that little debbie sounded like my flirtation with swiss rolls. Nom nom nom nom... Wish I could have one, know that I can't. sigh.... I know how hard it is to put them aside. But, like you, I've found stuff like that now tastes kind of "off" if you know what I mean?
I've been sick most of last week and this one as well so I haven't been keeping up. Glad to see you all again though. I did manage to sign in each day at least and tried to enter my meals. I've found this is the most effective tool in keeping me on track.
So last week I weighed in at our BL headquarters at work and I am now 7th in 270 people in terms of % of body fat lost. Pretty exciting for me. There's 13 more weeks to go and I hope to take 1st place. I'm very motivated and truthfully somewhat surprised that I've stuck with it this long. I have to lay much of my success at the feet of my DH as he has been researching, measuring, counting and cooking to make sure I have delicious filling and FULfilling meals that I'll enjoy and that will fall within my per meal calorie range.
Hope you are all well and I'll read more later. Some more nyquill and I'm back to bed.0 -
I've been thinking today....I have been falling off the wagon these past couple of weeks. I think that maybe if my hubby went and bought the groceries and all the Target stuff that I would have less of a chance of buyin that box of cookies, etc.
I'm gonna try it when I get back from my Canada trip. Maybe that will help me.0 -
That's the reason my hubby shops, Lacey. Well that and he's the cook, lol!!! I know he buys snacks for himself but he hides them where i can't find them and to be honest, I dont want them anymore.0
-
I'm such a blonde. I've decided it wasn't the Thai food but Mr TOM showing up 2 days early. I exercised my tush off today - 3 mile run plus 1/2 mile more with warm up and cool down and DH and I walked 4 miles this evening. I need to eat well and do some step aerobics tomorrow.0
-
I worked out today and felt good...gotta go tomorrow too as I have made an appt to get a pedicure Friday for my birthday Sunday. Plus I just don't want to do it myself, ha! That will have met my goal to work out three days this week.
I got on the scale today..205. So almost back to where I was. Yeay. Now I just need to at least maintain until I get back from Canada. For the next challenge I am going to make my goal not to lose weight, but rather focus in on what gets me there: minimum 3 times a week at the gym and tracking cals on the weekends.
I came home and made the best tacos...way too much cheese that put me over on fat, but wow they were good. I used some tomato sauce, evoo, spices and mixed it all together then dipped corn tortillas in the sauce and put them on a flat griddle till they got crispy and loaded them up. YUM.
Laura - I do all the cooking, but yeah...hubby might be needing to do the shopping for a bit.
Victoria - yeay for it not being thai food! LOL...wouldn't want to ruin that most fantastic food!0 -
    Crap....I just lost a post again....will I ever learn!!!
I got My HRM yesterday ....so happy with it!!! ....I took the fitness test pretty much within 30 minutes of taking it out of the box and it told me my Vo2 was "40-very good" my resting HR was around 56 bpm..... and when I set up the fitness program...it suggested that I work out 5 times a week, 1 long, 1 short and 3 medium work outs, to burn 3100 calories a week....gosh I have been doing probably double that...as weird as it is to say, I may have been working to hard ???.....I'll see in the next few weeks. I am very excited to start going thru the workouts and find out! I have to admit, seeing where my Vo2 was on the charts compared with other woman my age...really made me feel good.....I am 1 point away from being in the "41-elite-athlete" catagory....now that is something I can live with....health is the main thing here....man, I sure do forget that when that scale starts it's nasty business
Oh and Pinbot....I know you just wanted me to have a HRM for Mother's Day  ....but I was on a roll and also bought myself (and hubby) new running shoes...I can't wait until they get here...I went back to asics, the nikes I have are really hurting my feet...
I haven't logged any running miles for 10 days now.....but I did ride the bike to town yesterday....the more I have gotten to know the owner the more she has been concerned about me riding    , at first she was all excited and encouraging me...then yesterday, she must of had a paranoid moment and she started fussing about me wearing a brighter color so cars could see me,and she wanted to know where my helmet was..... I guess that shoes my age....I know it is a good idea to wear a helmet....but I grew up riding without one and as much as I love the extras...don't think I could ride in a helmet....I pay extra attention and get way over on the shoulder when a car does pass.....it is usually a country road that I am on and usually I only see a few cars when I go aorund 9 AM or so....she had me nervous yesterdya on my way home0 -
edit for double post...I actually thought that I had lost it againt...nope, this time it was 2 of them  :laugh:0

Morning super pals!!! Somehow of all the darn luck - I've gotten a mild cold. I think it was the stress and not sleeping well. It started Monday with feeling fuzzy and mild sore throat - I thought it was allergies the pollen is pretty high here but last night it turned to congestion. Thank goodness I only have 1 client today. I plan to rest and driink lots of fluids. Maybe a workout or two. I am already feeling better since I can breath out of my nose again.
Debra - you deserve the HRM and the shoes!!! I finally bought a road ID that velcros to your shoe with emergency information. http://www.roadid.com/Common/default.aspx?referrer=4252&gclid=COHH7ZLsq6ECFZFV2godZxFTEw DH was concerned about me running on our country roads alone. If your country roads are like ours - in this nice weather you should be fine. You can hear the cars. I too bike without a helmet. Beware when ice and snow hit... I do wear an orange vest when I walk/jog or bike in dawn or dusk http://www.amazon.com/High-Visibility-Orange-Safety-Vest/dp/B000IDSZ1U It is mesh with reflective strips. I was more concerned about drunk hunters than vehicles in the fall. We even have a little orange vest for the dog - again hunters are our concern since we let him off the leash to run in the woods once out of mom's tiny subdivision. Great job on being so healthy.0 -
Here is our most recent chart...

Kendal - after a quick review of the literature - my best guess is Anterior shin splints. This can cause pain on the outside aspect of the tibia. It may be the compartment syndrome but that is pretty rare and generally serious - I have only seen 1 case in 20 years as a therapist. Here are two good links:
http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_5/196.shtml
http://sportsmedicine.about.com/cs/leg_injuries/a/leg2.htm
Really look at the soles of an older pair of shoes - is the inside worn out more than the outside? Try the wet feet walk test on floor or paper towels and look at your foots pattern left on the floor. If your prints are a big blob - you are mostly over pronating... These articles may help.
http://walking.about.com/od/shoechoice/a/wayyouwalk.htm
http://www.thestretchinghandbook.com/archives/pronation-supination.php
Most women tend to over pronate... If you think that you do and if your pain continues, ease up on the running. Maybe repeat week 1 to allow your body more time to build strength to the forces of running. Ice your shins!!!! Stretch your calves and work to strengthen your dosiflexors (furniture ex)... If possible, invest in a good pair of shoes or in orthotics to give you some arch support.
I ended up with Brooks running shoes. They have an on-line advisor on their website but I dont have the plug in to try it. Note - I had to try on multi pairs of shoes in the store and practice jogging around the store before I found ones that felt right.

Good luck and happy running!!!0 -
Great chart Pinbotchick, I see my start weight is missing, That was 251. I weighed in today at 232.. woo hoo!! Last week I was at 235.4. That should fill in the missing pieces on me. It's been a weird week, I've been sick on and off (mostly on) starting last Thursday so I haven't been paying close attention to the website. Hope to make amends this weekend. I've had monster clinics in the last month so it's been hard to take time to sit down and read about everyone. I have thought often of you all though. Sticking to eating well and carefully, still only walking about a mile a day but hopefully that will increase in time. My calories are at 1750 and that seems to be a good place for me. Talk to you all soon!! Best of luck to everyone!0

Morning everyone!
Deb- yay for getting a HRM AND new shoes. You totally deserve it.
Lacey- it sounds like you know what you want to work on this upcoming challenge, and it sounds like those goals are completely reasonable for you to reach. I realize that sometimes we all focus a lot on weight, because that's what is the commonly thought of indicator of being more healthy, but there are a lot of other factors going in. Like, my weight has been up and down this challenge, but I know overall that my clothes are continuing to fit better and I'm getting stronger and more fit. I know the weight will eventually fall off, but you have to look at overall what you're doing for your health. Good for you!
Victoria- thanks for posting the chart as always!
I can't believe this is our second to last week of this challenge. Where did it go?? It's been a big challenge for me in terms of increasing my fitness and physical activity. I ran my first Almost5K, and have continued to increase my running distance. As I said above, my clothes are continuing to fit better, especially in my legs, which I NEVER thought would happen, as they've always been huge. It's frustrating to not see the weight come off with it, but I'm trying not to feel too defeated regarding it. I'm only up 2 pounds now from last week when I weighed in this morning. :grumble: Should have known a 5 pound loss wouldn't stick. I'm hoping to be down a bit more tomorrow for weigh in, but we'll see.
Yesterday I ran 4.2 miles, which I was pleased about. I felt pretty good running it, and I was at under a 12:30 pace, which is great for me for that distance. So while I didn't hit my 2 3+mile challenges this week, I did hit 6+ miles today, so I suppose I'll take it. I did reach my 5/7 days of cardio.
Tonight my third therapy group begins. It's a bit nervewracking, because you never know how the group dynamics are going to be. Plus, I need to be observed all the sessions of this group to make sure I'm adhering to the model as close as possible. It makes me uber nervous being watched. Oh well- part of the job! I really want to try and hit the rec center after group, but I don't want to commit myself to it, because it really depends on how I'm feeling. Eating should be good today at least.
Hope everyone's last chance workouts go well!0 -
DH is still being awfully clingy today. At least he wants to do more with me and has suggested a Saturday lunch outing with hike and "doing the stairs" at one of the local campgrounds. There are at least 140 stairs to get up the hill. Of course I said I'd go.
Well after the 3 mile walk last night - he has come to his senses and realized that trying to jog 3 miles in 2 weeks might be biting off too much to start. He asked "you actually jog this far?" Smack - what do you think a 5K is? So he wont be running but may come watch us run in Chelsea... On the mile walk home after dinner, he was c/o of shin pain. This is the first time I can recall being in better shape than him.
My workout of the day is done - 30 min of Zumba. It is such fun and the time flies. Well I better go get some paperwork done.0 -
I figure if I look at the overall goal of weight loss and break it down into something more manageable in my mind, I should still lose weight. Ideally anyways. If I work out consistenly three times a week and track calories five days a week to start then yeah..there should be some kind of deficit there. I will make a chart so its easy for everyone to follow. And if I don't lose weight, at the very least I should see my body improving and my clothes fitting better. Sometimes I need to compartmentalize things to make it work for me, lol.
Deb- HRMs rock. I love mine. Totally worth the money. I saw a post on here the other day that a gal had bought an interval trainer online and loved it. I use my ipod or blackberry to do intervals and its a pain. I am thinking about buying one cuz it beeps or vibrates like the HRM's do when you need to get your HR up. How cool is that?? It makes it more brainless so you don't have to look at the clock constantly.
VIctoria - that sucks you have a cold. It is amazing how stress can affect our bodies and make them more vulnerable to that stuff. I hope you feel better fast!
Laura- meeting small goals makes us happy...I heard that on BL this week and it was a super good reminder of the fact that small steps can lead to great results. Walking a mile is awesome! You can build on that when you can!
Kristina - good luck with your therapy group tonight. I hate being watched too. It is so nerve wracking.0 -
Thanks for looking up all that information Victoria! We are so lucky to have you in our group. You have all the answers! I think I have more supination than pronation. I'm gonna try wearing a different pair of shoes tonight to see if that will help make a difference.
They are going to start a free kick boxing class here at work after hours on Tuesday. I signed up for it. That sounds like fun.
Still have the Susan G Komen walk on Saturday. The info says I can't take Lexi. This walk actually has a lot more rules than the March of Dimes walk I did last week.
I've been drinking WAAAAY too much soda lately (its all diet soda, but still...). I'm making myself drink water at work today. I'm really not that into drinking water. And I don't like the flavored packets you can add to it....maybe I just need to find a new flavor.0 -
Ouch!!! Thanks for the chart Victoria...but seeing it makes me take a big gulp!!!
But I had a great ride this morning, another 14 miles and then I came home and did some yard work. I Love, Love my new toy!! It has shown me a lot all ready....I plan on seing some results now, no more guessing and I will get closer to all of my calories from today on out!
I am really needing to hit the showers....
Kristina...I hate to be watched too!!:frown: ...I almost always mess up in some way:ohwell: ...Good luck Hun, your a pro on this by now...right!!:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
I'll check in later...hope your all having a great day!!0 -
Deb- way to to go with the bike riding! You're just pedaling away!! I don't think I've ridden that much on a bike at a time. I think when I go back to NC to my parents' house this summer to pick up goodies for the new place, I might pick up my bike- which I really never rode. I might actually do it this time!!
Victoria- amusing that he thought he could just whip out a 3 mile run with no training. It would be lovely to meet him as well if he comes down for the run. Sounds like he's motivated to get his tush into gear as well though. It's nice to have that support!
I'm really hoping the weather will hold out this weekend so I can get a good run in. It's commencement this weekend, which is always a pain in terms of parking and such, but Obama is our commencement speaker this year (doh! missed it by a year!), so in addition to the normal crowds, even more will actually come to graduation, and roads will be blocked off for security. As I live close to the stadium, it'll be even worse. Maybe I'll do a jog by as he's speaking. haha.
Still hope to get to the rec center tonight, but no promises. If I do, I prettty much have done all I can this week to lose some weight. I mean, other than the pad thai fiasco on Saturday and pub trivia on Monday I ate wonderful, AND worked out really hard, so it's frustrating to see an increase instead of a decrease. *sigh* I need to stop harping on this. It's not going to change and it's quickly turning into b*tching. Apologies.0 -
Has anyone thought of our next challenge name? I know I haven't done much shrinking this challenge....actually, none whatsoever. :frown: Exercising is great and all, but my eating SUCKS. I need to find more recipes to make that I make one batch and its lasts me a couple nights. I'm all about simplicity.
I just saw my old boss in the hallways. Everyone keeps talking about how much weight she's lost and I still want to make snide comments about the horrible hair color she had the last time we saw her. Really though- I'm jealous. Like..Mean Girls jealous. But she does look good...and now I'm motivated to keep trying. I've been so slack on myself these past couple months. Exercise isn't enough....I need to eat right too.
I can do this....0 -
Do you guys watch the BL at all? I see that kid (not really, but I'm calling him that) Daris and every week he stressed out he doesn't lose weight, regardless of the fact that he works his butt off and eats right. It is so easy to say "stop stressing out" but I know how hard it is to not do it. The past four weeks have been one stress after another for me, and it won't stop until I get on the plane next Sunday!
I see that alot of us are dealing with stresses of some kind or another lately and look at how much it changes our eating habits and work out habits!! My stress is relatively mild even and it happens. Crazy. That is part of why I decided that for the next challenge I am focusing on the eating and exercising and not on the numbers of weight loss. It all should lead to weight loss but I've got to get down into the mechanics of it and focus on that for a bit I think. Get the eating back under control and back in the gym more.
So put me down at 205 this week as that is what I weighed yesterday. And hopefully by the end of the next challenge I will be down a pant size and feeling much more stress free!0 -
The shoes made a big difference tonight on the run. Still couldn't do the second 3 minute run but its ok...I'll just take 9 months to do the 9 week c25k lol0
