I get trapped wind sometimes, it can be very painful and uncomfortable. For relief pour a mug of boiling water and wait for it to cool down just enough so it doesn't burn your mouth and drink the whole thing (drink it as hot as you can stand). This works for me. I have heard things about peppermint tea but not tried it myself.

If you've had a dramatic change in your diet, cut back on the fiber and add it more gradually, try lactose free milk, etc like the above ideas. If this is new without a serious change in your diet or if it's been getting worse with time _See A Doctor_. Pain that lasts hours and is recurring can be a sign of a serious condition. A blocked gallbladder or massive cysts can present with the same symptoms. Probably other medical conditions as well.
