these are so easy. great for parties, friends over, or just with your meal.
dried shytake mushrooms (find them in the asian or ethnic aisle)
chopped peppers, onions, and garlic.
make sure you add the garlic very last min. so it doesn't burn.
little bit of oil. I used olive oil.
that's it.
soak the mushrooms for 30 mins while you chop and saute the veggies.
then take out the veggies, and cook the mushrooms flat side down.
you could use button mushrooms, but in my store shytakes are the same price,
and they are dried so they last forever. also, the shytake is more filling, meaty,
and a source of iron i think.
i used jalopeno's, but any sweet or spicy pepper you like works.
served with veggie burgers, this can work as my football food.
yummy!

I love that the beginning of shitake was edited out in your title....Shiitake wouldn't have though.0

I'm here solely to laugh at the edited thread title.
But the mushrooms sound great!0 -
It's too bad the moderation on this site is so out of whack that even foods are bleeped as though they're naughty. (yes, I realize it's spelled wrong, but spotted d!ck also gets bleeped, you know..)0

^^^^This! I think they need to tweak the editor a bit. :laugh:0 -

I haven't been able to find a comparable recipe to give the nutrition info. but the ingredients are so simple.
just top it with whatever veggies you have to keep it low cal. or build it with whatever sounds good.
they are filling enough, for me, to possibly just have as a meal itself. I had a small package,
but it said the serving size was 9 mushrooms 90 calories. 2 servings a package.
I think dynasty was the brand. but use whatever you can find.0 -
Came for the topic title. Also I love mushrooms.0

there isn't an edit option for some reason on these posts, but I'm updating the cal. info for the shee-takes,
shiitakes, from the package of dynasty brand black dried mushrooms. "serving size" is about 9 mushrooms, 0.5 oz or 14g.
50 calories per serving, keeping in mind the mushrooms vary in size, but definitely a calorie bargain.0
