Fitbit

I'm considering getting a fitbit and I was hoping for some reviews on it. To see if it's worth the price.
Please tell me what you think.

THANKS!

I wear mine every day and I love it. If I were you, I'd wait until the bracelet one (flex) comes out. It automatically goes into sleep mode. The other ones don't. It has an alarm feature too that vibrates or something to wake you up.

I have the ultra, and I wear it on my bra. One day I was washing dishes and I guess the steam from the water (who knows how this happened, but it did) messed it up so I had to contact support and they sent me a new one for free. It could have been from sweat in that area, who knows. But I doubt it since it's designed to be worn on the bra for women. When I wear it however, I can see it through my clothes (theres a rectangle shape between my breasts that is obvious to anyone looking lol).

When the bracelet one comes out I'm going to switch. Its freakin waterproof, yay! I love my ultra though and earlier this month I got a nice email from them totalling up all of my activity for the last year. It was a really cool email because it compared my amount of floors to climbing some mountain or something. It doesn't calculate heart rate though which if there was a way it could it would be absolutely perfect. And probably more expensive

Hi I have the zip and I love it. I am definitely moving more and find the integration with MFP works well. I would have gone for the one if it had been out when I bought as I wanted smartphone updating with bluetooth which the zip has but it does not have the stairs and sleep features which look cool.

The new product for the summer is the flex and is worn on the wrist. It would not be suitable for me as I work in healthcare and not able to wear a wristwatch but might be cool.

I have the zip and love it, but the integration with MFP doesn't seem to be working for me. It's great motivation...definitely get one!!

Not trying to be negative just stating the facts as a 2 year wearer of the Bodymedia Fit -- the FitBit is little more than a glorified pedometer. It consistently displayed 40% less calories burned than my BMF. If I manually logged my activities then I could get it w/in 15% (lower) than the BMF which would have been acceptable but I didn't want to log my activities on a daily basis - especially since setting MFP to Very Active and logging my exercise brings me almost to the same number as the FitBit.. I have no doubt that seeing your steps displayed can provide alot of motivation though.

I agree that you need to log exercise separately if not running or walking. so I log my gym workouts (heart monitor) and swimming (swimtag). The general activity seems accurate for me i.e. if I set my deficit for 1.5 lb that works if I set it for 2lb that works. Bear in mind body media requires a subscription and fitbit does not although you can pay for extra features on the website but I have not found that necessary.

    Support are very helpful.

I have doubled my step average in 3 months and I am going for more..........

I have a FitBit One and I completely love it. No idea how accurate it is but the calorie burns that it gives me are higher than MFP set on sedentary (desk worker) + manual logging of exercise. I guess it's because I'm a mum of a young child and we are only sedentary for 8 hours of the day!

The Fitbit One is sweat/splashproof and one of my MFP friends has even accidentally put hers in the wash and it's come out still working.

I like how the One can be hidden in your clothes and unlike PP you can't see mine through my clothes (might depend where exactly you clip it - I clip it to the middle part of my bra). I don't want everyone going 'what's that on your arm' which is why I didn't go with a Nike Fuelband or wait for the Flex.

I love my fitbit. I used to have a fitbit ultra, but I lost it, and now I have a fitbit one, and it's great.

When I started using it, I was doing an average of 5,000 steps per day, and I really struggled to reach my daily goal of 10,000. From the pretty graphs, I could see that I spent most of my time inactive, and have been gradually increasing my activity. Now, I average 15,000 steps per day (although it's summer at the moment, so that makes it easier!)

I've found it to be the most single piece of technology that has helped me stay focused. Walking is easy, and it lets me know how much more I need to walk. I'm down 20lbs, and I think that's mainly due to the fitbit and MFP :)

Not sure that I'd like the bracelet. I wear my fitbit on my pants - the only time I wear it on my bra is when I'm wearing a dress.

Oh, and my fitbit one has gone through the washing machine twice and survived - that's a quality product!

Check out the FitBit users group for more on how in works alongside MFP:
    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/1307-fitbit-users

I've only had my FitBit One for a week, and it's already inspired me to increase my daily activity several times over, rather than just getting through a half-hour workout, and I lost a pound without really trying after having struggled with a plateau for months!

The sleep monitor has helped me work out what works for a good or bad night's sleep too, and I'm feeling much more rested.

I love mine and it's great motivator... especially on days where I'm less active than I should be. There's a lot of people on MFP who also feel they get a lot out of the money spent. I think it's well worth it.

I got my Fitbit One for Christmas for myself and I know it is what makes me want to move more. I love it and the information it gives me is great. Don't even hesitate just get it...I would get the One over the zip if you can afford the $100 price. My opinion only.

Essentially I agree with this. I've been using a HRM to track any cardio workout I do as the Fitbit calorie burn is significantly lower than that recorded by my HRM. This is also the case for me when it comes to set periods of walking or running.

I tested the Fitbit adjustment for set periods of walking using the Fitbit stopwatch facility against my HRM for the same time period and found the calorie burn about half to a third lower than it should be. Which was when I downloaded Endomondo on my phone and started tracking the walking with that. Doing a test with the HRM, Endomondo calorie burn was about a third to 50% higher than what I actually burned. MFP's calorie burn for walking is the closest match to what I actually burn. So while I still use Endomondo track when, how fast and how long I walk for, I adjust the calories burn using MFP For running, I use my HRM for the calorie burn.

Where Fitbit comes into it's own is encouraging you to be more active, to get out and walk more and to try and increase your step count. For general walking around I've found the Fitbit is fab..

Oh yeh, I forgot to write in my previous post, I love the sleep tracker! It really made me realise how often I was going to bed early, and it helps me focus on getting enough sleep :)
