Hi, my name is Megan and I am 23. I live in Long Island, New York and have been on MFP for almost a month now. I told myself on New Years that this year was it! My sister is getting married in August and I DO NOT want to be the overweight maid of honor! So I am looking for friends to keep me motivated! I'd like to hear some of your stories!!

I am looking for as many people as possible so I don't give up!!! I need to lose a crazy amount of work after having a baby at 42 and after a thyroid fiasco that left me too darn heavy. I do not recognize myself. I have been a normal weight most of my life and just want to get back to looking normal. Now I have a toddler and need to keep up with him for a long time to come....Help!

What a great community of people on here! I have a thyroid problem as well. I have hypothyroidism so I have been dealing with weight issues for several years now. I used to be thinner but I gained a lot of weight when I was with my EX-boyfriend because I was so unhappy. Now I am in a great relationship and now all I need to do is feel better about myself!

Do you see an endocrinologist? It did wonders for me - we talked about my weight, goals, age and everything and he explained hoe it all worked with your thyroid to me. I had mine taken out because of some tumors on it (benign) and I feel normal again for the first time in like 8 years. It was holding me back from getting pregnant, losing weight, I just felt mean and crazy.
I was tired ALL the time - I though it was depression - but it was my thyroid. I will tell you regular doctors tested my thyroid no less then 10 times to no avail. The specialist goes deeper and is the way to go.

I have not seen an endocrinologist. I was told about 3 years ago that I had an under active thyroid so I started taking medication. Before that I didn't ever really think I had a problem, just that it would take me forever to lose weight. So I was on medication for about a year and a half and because I was lazy, I stopped taking it. About 6 months went by and back in like October 2012 I started feeling more tired than normal, and sooo lazy! I didn't know what was going on, I KNEW something had to be up. So I went back to the doctor and she tested my thyroid and sure enough it was under active again. So I started taking the medicine again starting in like November and have been on it since. I do feel better now, definitely less lazy and have been much more motivated. So lesson learned, don't stop taking your medication!

I'm a 53 guy with hypothyriodism. There is a subgroup on here for those with hypo as well as hyper.

No weddings in the future but the foirst grandchild is due next month. I want to get off meds for BP and cholesterol and hopefully the thyroid as well, (don't even know if the last one is realistic).

Please feel free to add me for encouragement from a different perspective.

    Mike
