Curious about the opinions of men and woman on how long and colorful fingernails should be.

Men - is it sexy for a woman to have long, red nails or do you like short and natural....or somewhere in between?

Ladies - the manicure industry is huge so what are you having done lately? Any trends that make you crazy or that you love??

I just trim my nails when they get too long, I am super low keep but I do like the pinterest posts that have galaxy nails and things like that. Would be so neat to wear one day.

I'm kind of annoyed by the recent trend of painting your left ring finger with sparkles and/or a different color, especially when it's done so people will notice your engagement ring.

My nails are thin, they break, rip, peel, get dents in them... On rare occasion they grow long enough to paint. Sometimes I get glue ons for my thumb when they are all dented and ripping down the middle.

II like doing fun things with fingernail paint once n a blue moon. But I don't get manicures. I can soak, lotion, and paint , my own fingernails. I don't have the time to drive and wait for someone else to pant my nails. It feels too personal. I am weird about that stuff.

I paint my toenails all the time. Fingernails occasionally, I keep them long enough to scratch and that's about it.

My husband is an astronomy geek. He painted my nails with galaxy themes once. But painted actual real galaxies and comets. It was awesome! (While recovering from surgery last year, I had nice nails for a whole 2 months and made the most of it)

I keep mine trimmed, I hate long nails. My nails are barely every not painted, I try to keep the color pretty neutral, nudes, pinks, white. I love the accent nail trend, obviously not anything crazy noticeable but 2 colors or a sparkle nail that compliment each other well.

I keep my nails red, or another color, but they must be short/trimmed. Hate long nails

I have chewed my nails all my life. This is the year I intend to stop...

But I will never have fake nails. I tried once and it annoyed the crap out of me. Not only did it interfere with my music (I'm a pianist) but it also interfered with my work (I'm a data entry person, and the nails slowed down my 100 wpm typing time). I tried shorter fake nails and they just irritated me. It was like a constant irritation on top of my real nail that I just wanted to rip off!

    So I did.

Now I just want to focus on not chewing!

I'm very low-maint with nails, mine stay relatively short because I type for a living, too-long nails just get in the way :) I throw on some polish sometimes, sometimes not. Whatever I feel like.

I keep mine trimmed and unpainted. I am constantly cleaning with chemicals, lifting crates and cases of products and catching then on things. It would be a waste (and possible painful) to grow my nails out and paint them.

I keep mine a little bit long, filed to a nice shape, sometimes I buff them to shining, sometimes I do light pink or clear coat. The few times I've gone to the salon, I've gotten french manicures. I think they're so pretty. Gel nails seem so thick and clunky, I'd get annoyed with them.

I never once thought it was to draw attention to a ring. Many girls do accents on either ring finger, and typically it's because it's the strongest and fastest growing nail. It just looks "better" than the other ones.

I have mini phobia about nails so I keep em maintained but dont get too fancy with them.

Well, i get my pedi done by profesional or cry, flinch and sob and just cut the **** short.
With finger nails I just cut em if it gets longer than 2-3cm and gets in a way .
Paint em red or violet, cos I like those colours or put some sort of neutral/see through conditioner.

My SO has iron hide on his back and likes scratchies.

Could never cut someone elses nails btw, the very idea, oh god :noway:

I have beautiful stong fingernails naturally so I keep them very nice and polished. I live in Oregon which gets dreary in the winter so my go to colors right now are bright pinks or really deep colors like red and blue. People always assume I have fake nails so If I have got them naturally, I am going to flaunt them :)

nails can only take away someone's attractiveness for me. unlike tattoos, piercings, hair cuts etc...which can, if done well, improve attractiveness.

My boyfriend's a weirdo. He hates long nails. What I consider short, he considers too long. He likes them so short that if i were to clip em anymore, i'd bleed. He also hates red fingernails, but doesn't mind red on toenails. What the heck, man.
  • I prefer having long nails so that's what I do! :)
They're strong and healthy without much help, so I just shape 'em and ignore 'em.
I've never had my nails done professionally, but have never needed to.
Once in a while I'll have fun colors or designs, but usually they're either without nail polish or neutral.

^^ I agree with this reply. But even if it would be to draw attention to a ring, there are so many gorgeous engagement rings out there, why not draw attention to them? I like looking at other womens' engagement rings!

I've seen a lot of the vibrant, sparkling, multi-colored nails at work and I personally only get funky with my toe nail polish. Partly because I don't have 'good' fingernails and I don't want fake ones because they are too long and I type for a living too. Once my money situation improves I am going to try out the gel polish (last time my nails looked good enough to paint I paid for them and my toe nails to be painted and my finger polish stayed for about 3 days...screw paying for that!) I'm ok w/colorful and sparkling nails but I for the life of me can't figure out how some ladies function w/2-3" nails...gross

and I had no idea the point to the ring finger polish change was to draw attention to the rings, I'll have to pay more attention

I work with food and drinks all day, so I'm not allowed to have long nails or paint them. When I get lucky enough to get a weekend or 3 days in a row off, I paint them. I have a nice collection of colors I've built up over the years. I always do my toenails, too, since there's no work restriction on that, haha.

The only trend I think that annoys me as far as nails go...would be the caviar thing. I've seen it done really well a couple of times..but it usually ends up looking ridiculous, IMO. Or those really freakishly long ones like someone posted a photo of earlier.
