Overeating?

For some reason, no matter how much I eat or water I drink, I am always SOOOOO hungry. And on top of the calories I am spending by running (yesterday I exercised for 60 minutes, for example) I just feel so so so hungry. I try to drink water instead of eating to make me not hungry but my stomach will still growl and gurgle like I haven't eaten in days :( Why is this happening? It seems like my stomach is full when I feel like throwing up.

Sounds like maybe you need to retrain your stomach to understand when you have had enough. Make sure you are eating very nutrient-rich foods so that you feel fuller on less food.

What is your activity level and how many calories are you set at? If you're always hungry, you may be a) not eating enough, b) not eating WELL or balanced - veggies, protein, not so many carbs and if they are, make sure they're whole grain, etc. or c) working out too hard and not eating enough of your exercise calories.

Food is fuel. Last time I checked chocolate chip cookies can't fuel anything!! Get what I'm saying? Choose nutrient-rich foods such as fruits & veggies (you can easily sneak them into snacks) and you'll stay full longer. Also... if you're not on an eating SCHEDULE, get one. Eat every 2-3 hours as this keeps your metabolism going and should keep you full.

Try making a snack that hasboth protein and some carbs. Nuts are great for fending off a growling stomach. They take longer to digest and have lots of fiber. They're in your stomach for up to 5 hours, which should help give you a full feeling. Eat just a few, though--they're high in fat. I usually snack on an 1/8 of a cup. I mix some carbs--usually fruit with them for energy.

Agreed. Fiber and protein enriched foods are best. Keeps me fuller longer and in my calorie range. Carbs can too, but they are easily used up and can make us want and eat more.

Good job on the water! They say usually we are more thirsty than hungry.

But have to agree as well . . . 60 minutes of running? Are you possibly not eating enough?? Maybe you should listen to your body and see if it helps.

It was discovering the "eat small and often" that stopped my cravings. I am never ever hungry and I'm still easily within my daily calorie guidelines. I eat every 3 hours without fail...except for weekends when I'm out contstantly :explode:

I've been feeling this way too, until yesterday. I drank about 4 times the amount of water I usually do. (which isn't all that much, since I'm not a big fan). And I found heavier, more sustainable, foods to eat. Gluten free bread and pasta did it for me! The bread especially. It is very dense and makes a great snack, at 110 calories per slice. Sounds like a lot of calories, but it's so heavy, it kind of reminds me of banana bread or something like that. It's better, to me, than one of those 100 calorie packs or something. Both the bread and the pasta are whole grain, low sugar and low or no fat.

    Just a thought...

Hope you find something that works for you! Constantly feeling hungry is miserable!

It sounds like the calories you're eating are empty. If you're eating nutrient dense calories then it takes surprisingly little food to make a person feel full. Ever wonder why we can gulp down a 1200 calorie fast food meal and still feel hungry? The body isnt being fed so the body is saying feed me more I didnt get all the nutrients that I need!

I have a friend who is a ACE certified Personal Trainer, and she told me that when your stomach grumbles that usually means it needs nutrients; true hunger is actually felt in the throat.

Like others have commented, you may need to eat more nutrient dense foods.
