Ladies - do you log your period weight gain?

No. It's not a real weight gain. It's not a gain in fat from overeating. It's not a gain muscle from developing strength. It's just water. In two days, you'll spend the day peeing constantly and it will be gone.0

I don't log gains at all0
-
Nope, I don't log it....I only record weight when I lose.0

Yes, because I can also track bloating this way. Now that I'm off my oral contraceptives (Yaz followed by Beyaz), I experience somewhat extreme bloating. I can gain 8-10lbs a few days before that takes about a week to go away. I also experience bloating and edema when I have more then 1500mg of sodium/day.
I'm also much more sensitive to sodium bloating just before my period.
Even if it's water weight, I still consider it as weight (not fat) and I shouldn't be bloating the way that I do. If I have large fluctuations in my weight from day to day I'll know I'm not eating right. Potassium is too low and sodium is too high.0 -
I record my weight Sundays-up, down, or otherwise. If it's TOM or I went out with friends or anything else, whatever-I'm looking at trending over a year (same for if I was sick and it was artificially low). That's me though-I just look at all that stuff as life and it all evens out in the end. I'm not going to be so much a slave to the scale that I only record a weight if it meets certain criteria-but hey, different strokes for different folks.
Amen Sister!
I thought I was the only one.
If I gain, I gain. If I lose, I lose. I post my weight weekly so my cardio cals are calculated more precisely.0 -
I don't. My body fluctuates so much day to day that I would drive myself crazy. I weigh myself each day and only record losses. If I went of track for a while and gained actual fat and not water weight, I would add it.0
-
I only record losses. I weigh daily and there are days that I can go up 2-3 pounds just because I exercised extra hard the day before or had too much sodium the day before, or of course, TOM. I would go crazy if I changed my weight everytime it fluctuated like that.0
-
No, because I know its just very temporary, and I don't want to take credit for losing it when it drops back off...0
-
I weigh myself almost every day, but only record a gain or loss when I start to see a consistent trend.0

no but i log the chocolate i ate while pmsing
Haha I think that's the more important issue!!0 -

I don't even go near a scale during that TOM :laugh:0

I weigh myself daily and it is frustrating to see that weight gain due to period/water. I'm one of those that when I see a weight gain on the scale my confidence takes a dive even if it is near that TOM. I have a few friends that are trying to get me into recording my measurements because that means more then weight to them. I only record my losses so in a week if my weight isn't down to what it stated before the gain then I will record it. I totally agree with a lot of what has been posted in this thread.0

I weigh in every Monday and Thursday and record the weight regardless of the number. I think it is important to know what my body is doing even in regards to my period. I usually won't lose weight right before, which is frustrating, but about day 3, I am down 2 - 3 pounds. Just knowing it is the period helps keep me on track.0
-
I only log a loss unless it is a consistant gain0
-
I weigh daily to keep myself mindful--and aware of how things like my period and my "regularity" , but I only record my weight weekly.0

I'll buck the trend and say that I do. It helps me keep things in perspective. This way, I can look back and see that while there are ups, downs, and plateaus, the overall long-term trend is down. Realistically, I can't expect every scale reading to go down, and when I've reached my goal fitness level (weight being just one indicator of this), I know that my weight will fluctuate up and down for any number of reasons, AF being one of them.
So I log it, check the calendar and shrug it off, and then watch it (hopefully) go down again. I can't be fretting every pound or two, and perhaps somewhat perversely, logging all the ups and downs, whatever their cause, helps me remember that the overall trend is more important than what the scale says any one morning.0 -
what you're looking for is a trend over time, day to day fluctuations, even week to week fluctuations, don't count. If you're steadily losing fat, your weight will show a downwards trend, even if it goes up and down along the way. What I'd suggest, if you're seeing big fluctuations due to your menstrual cycle, is to pick a day in your cycle when you won't be retaining water, and have that as your official monthly weigh in, and log those. Then you can also weigh yourself inbetween, say, every week to keep you on track between official weigh ins, but don't log those, and don't worry about regular water weight gains because of your menstrual cycle. For your official weigh ins, you should see the weight going steadily downwards.0

I weigh weekly- Friday am after bathroom before cup of tea (we're going for max effect here!!). Last week I'd gone down 1 1/2 lb (DS said 2 but I thought it was 1.5 -and it was the week before). Lets see if tomorrow I'm still down, further down or up (hopefully down!). By being more active and restricting intake I didn't notice so much bloating as ususal - or maybe I just had more space in my clothes to bloat!0
-
nope i stay off the scale during that time of the month, so disappointing to see the number go up so much.0
-
I don't log my weight during my period. I know whatever weight I'm at is not accurate and I would rather not have it mess with my head.0
-
I don't log gains period unless I've hit a plateau and it's been 2 or 3 weeks of a gain. Friday is my official weigh in day although I do weigh sometimes during the week but Friday's is all I log and then only if there was a loss.0

no but i log the chocolate i ate while pmsing

Hang in there..

Nope!! Doesn't seem fair.0

Yes. By looking at my metrics I can even guess what is going on and compare it to previous months. I love analyzing data, so that is why I do it, but it isn't for everyone.0
-
I don't log it I just ignore it0
-
I don't log my gains at all.0

The way I look at it is you want to keep track of your actual body weight and not your weight plus half a gallon of water. You wouldn't stand on the scale holding a couple of water bottles, right? So why weigh when you know your weight is inflated by extra water?0
