are girls legs stronger than guys

My boyfriend works out a lot more than I do and yet I can lift a lot more with my legs than he can, even all his friends leg press about half what I do. Are females legs just naturally stronger

I think so, men generally have the upper body advantage but girls, ( think of our glutes) have more advantage on the lower half, I can out leg press most of he guys in my gym, and on one occasion beat by trainer, was most pleased!

Females have more bulk in their legs and if they work them out could build more muscle there. Squats however also take some upper body strength and your guy pals may get you there. ... they probably can do a lot more upper body stuff than you.

Several years ago I was doing leg presses on a machine. I had it set on its maximum and would have anyone willing to sit or stand on part of it to increase the weight/resistance. Did 3 sets of 15 reps with no trouble. The weight without people on it said 1100 lbs. Not sure how accurate that machine was though. Another male who appeared to much more fit than me struggled with the machine set at 300.

He is probably one of those guys at the gym that just does bicep curls, tricep extensions and benches everyday ignoring legs.. Lots of guys don't do legs cause they think its for girls.. Then they can't even leg press their weight ..
  • I leg press anywhere from 250-280, trying to get stronger! I started at 90lbs but have continued to build up, my bf said I would get bulky man legs, that was the farthest thing from the truth! My legs are much stronger than my upper body but I know a lot of men you can still do more than me

Not necessarily. My son has great lower leg strength. It more or less depends on your body build. Many body builders get implants to bulk up their llower legs.

It might be because guys rarely train legs.... You know their too focused on their chest abs and arms. ;)

In general women are just a bit behind men in lower body strength. A man who has been strength training seriously for 6 months or perhaps even a bit less could leg press 550-600 for 5-8 reps (or more importantly squat 300 plus or minus for a few reps)

Wait, who had to stop his cut a couple weeks in because his squat stat dropped below mine... jk :)

    Pretty much this.

Look up any powerlifting world records, even comparing same weight classes, and men's squats are always FAR above women's.

Probably. I struggled with the last two sets of 6 at 245 today. The cut is taking a toll.

I'm way weaker in my upper body than my lower body, but I've been working on it. I'm kinda scrawny, but I have strong legs. I OFTEN have to increase the weights on thigh or glute related stuff if I happen to go on machines after guys, but I almost ALWAYS have to lower the weights on upper body! My husband still beats me on both... :drinker:

ETA: Now that I think about it, lately I have been outperforming many of the newer, out-of-shape guys on upper body...not that I'm keeping track or anything!

There is not as much difference in lower body strength between men and women as there is in upper body strength.
