    Yes...

Water mixed with whatever is still water.

As soon as you drink plain water it mixes with whatever is in your belly, does that make it any less water?

I only ever count plain water for water intake. You are best not to count tea/coffee or other juices/softdrink as anything with caffine dehydrates you. You are best sticking to water with lemon or lime (not cordials) and you will find you'll get used to it. I never liked drinking water but the more active i become the more im enjoying it.

    Hope that helps.

It's all water. I don't count my coffee but I count everything else.

Every day at work, I drink:

3-4 of my 24oz water bottles filled with water (sometimes with lemon, sometimes without)
1 pot of coffee (don't judge me)
    3-4 cups of green tea

I get home and have another 24-48oz of water
    2-3 cups of green tea

I only log the water though

Nope. It takes decent amount of caffeine for it to have any appreciable diuretic effect.

Common sense! If I drink a glass of water and then I dump a package of crystal light in my mouth, does the crystal light cancel out the water because the mixed in my stomach?

Thank you. Studies have shown it takes 600 -700g before becoming dieuretic.

I like the taste and it helps curb my appetite, but I drink it for the antioxidant benefits more than the weight loss

Carbonated drinks may affect bone density negatively.

If I recall correctly the carbonation in itself has nothing to do with it. I believe it has to do with the levels of phosphoric acid that is in cola type carbonated drinks.

Things like club soda which is merely carbonated water should have no negative impact on bone density.

Yes it counts. Although I just drink plain water. I never keep track though. I wish it would keep track in oz not glasses. I never drink glasses of water I just carry around a water bottle. Is there a way to change it to ounces?

How large is your water bottle? It should have on there how many litres or oz it is. 250ml is 1 cup which is 8oz
So if your water bottle is 500ml its equal to 2 cups or 16 oz (each glass you are keeping track of here on MFP is 8oz)
    hope that helps

I log my unsweetened tea on my food diary but don't count it towards my water intake. I only logged water (with or without lemon) as water. I also add the lemon slice to my food diary even though most people don't. After this thread I think I will start logging my hot tea as water. Thanks for starting this thread!
  • Mum's in gastro, but used to be a nephrologist (kidney specialist) and she once mentioned the body doesn't tend to discriminate when it comes to water; including the water we get from food. You get about a fifth of your water intake from eating - though eastern diets tend to get somewhat more water from it due to a higher fruit and vegetable intake.

It seems the body is happy to take any form of hydration providing there are no diuretic effects - NO BOOZE haha!

Granted, caffeine does have diuretic effects in higher doses but as long as you're sensible (for example, a POT of coffee a day wouldn't really be sensible) then you can safely include hot drinks like tea and coffee, especially if it's something like peppermint tea or ginger tea which are both tasty and pretty darn healthy.
