hey! i'm kind of new this site, but i love it! i had a baby on Christmas day  and gained 80 lbs!! :grumble: so far i've lost 52 lbs, but have a ways ago to reach my goal so i recently bought an exercise bike and it has been so awesome except for one thing.... i am not convinced that i am really burning the amount of calories it says i am. if i work out for 20 minutes i can burn up too 300 calories if i really put myself into it... does that sound right? it almost sounds to good to be true, but if it is, i'd love to know for sure!

thanks!!

It's probably not accurate. I was curious about the same thing (except I use a total body crossramp & treadmill) and I was always getting around 600 calories burned when I was on the crossramp for 45 & the treadmill for 15. I got a heart rate moniter that also counts calories burned and in the same session I burned 472 calories. That's a pretty huge difference! I know it's different for different kinds of equipment but generally they're not super accurate because they don't constantly measure your heart rate and exertion. If you can find one a HRM is the way to go. I LOVE knowing how much I'm burning and when I should be stepping it up!

Make sure you have input your correct information into the bike computer: Your age and weight. If you haven't the computer generally defaults to a male of average weight. That might be causing it. I find that when I set my treadmill to my information, it generally matches what my heart rate monitor says.

Best bet is to get a heart rate monitor that you program your gender, weight and height. It tracks your heart rate and figures out calories burned based on all the above. I just got one and so far everything I have been logging in here has been a little higher than what the hrm tells me.
