Food scales

Hi all,

I'm thinking of purchasing a food scale and was hoping to get some feed back from people that have one. Is it worth getting? Which brand is best?

Check out Amazon.com and get a digital scale that measures in lbs/oz., grams and has a "tare" setting. You shouldn't have to spend more than $35.

Target has a nice little digital one for $22. It's looks are pretty stylish too.

Yes it is worth it. It's amazing when you weigh stuff and compare that serving to what you thought a serving was.

I bought mine from Bed, Bath, and beyond years ago and that little sucker is still going strong. Next one I get will have grams though.

It would help if you eat a lot of meat. Most food is measured in cups but pretty much all meat, poultry, and fish has to be weighed. I never weigh my food I kind of just go off of the servings per package and split it up but if I had a scale I would use it.

That's one of the reasons I wanted one. I 'think' I know portion sizes but would really like to know for sure

I just got this one and it so far it works great. You can't beat the price on this (especially for one that goes to 11 lbs)

We have a Salter brand one that came from Walmart. It's great and I use it daily for portion control. It's actually this one (http://www.hayneedle.com/product/salteraquatronicelectronickitchenscale.cfm?source=pla&adtype=pla&kw=&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=PSA358&gclid=CN2r_umcoLUCFexxQgodPBIARw) but my husband paid less than $40 for it at Walmart, although it's been a while since he picked it up.

I have one, but I bought it because I bake and cook alot. For those purposes it's invaluble.

But it functions great for nutrition as well. I got my at Target for less than $20.00. It is digital, and allows me to zero out (for bowls etc)

Some of the "nutrition" scales have a bowl which may seem cool, but it takes up space for storage. Get a regular scale and you can put it away in a drawer.

Yes buy a food scale. I got two cheap on Amazon (I have one at home and work.) It's the best investment I made, other than my gym membership.

I have the biggest loser scale...bought it at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $20. I weigh every I put in my mouth!! Sure has worked for me!

ps. It weighs in ounces and grams!

I just bought a cheap one at the grocery store while I was grocery shopping one day. It's nothing fancy but I just wanted a better idea of portion size and it does the job.

discount stores have these for $10 and they are just as good. Ocean Stae Job Lot has it since I got one. Or check Walmart, Building 19 etc. Even a dollar store might or an Ace hardware. It shouldn't cost $35.

Agreed, just bought one there last night. I bought the Taylor brand at Target, it has a glass platform that easily spins off for cleaning.
Not sure why mine was $29 here in SW Ohio?

I got this one from target! Great price and it works flawlessly. It also has the "Tare" ability which come in very much handy!

I got a cheap one from Walmart for $10, not digital though. It gets the job done. It's great having a scale to make sure you are eating the right portion size

It's a good idea to also have measuring cups and spoons.

This. My oatmeal i was eating with measuring cup alone was still off. it said for 1/2 is 150 when its really 160....and 40 grams isnt 1/2 cup like it says.....it's closer to 1/3.

I bought it to measure portions for my son, who has Type 1 diabetes, and use it myself for things like pasta and nuts. The great thing is that after using it for a while you can really learn to eyeball portion size when you don't have it with you.

eta : it costs about 20 bucks. well worth it.
