sore knee, not sure what I did

Hi there my left knee has been bothering me for the past couple weeks, not sure what I have to and need tips to heal it, the only thing different I have done is zumba, and one classed called rear attitude where you do squa't and lunges and exercises to work your gluts. It does not seem to make a difference if I rest my knee or days or go work out. Any tips or suggestions for me ?

Squats and lunges, if not done properly, can really mess with your knees. Zumba also has a lot of side to side motions which can be hard on your knees if the supporting muscles are not very strong. I'd say go to the doctor to make sure it's really just a sore knee and not something more serious. In the mean time, RICE (rest, ice, compression and elevation).

Joints are complicated and can take ages to heal. It may not hurt more when you exercise but it still really delays healing. I would definitely rest and sit around (knee elevated) as much as possible.
  • I had the same issue when I first started working out. I went to my doc to be sure it was nothing serious and she called it "runners knee". I rested and iced it when I could. She also suggested getting a support band for when I am working out. It has made a world of difference!!

thanks for the input, I have been trying to ice and rest with it elevated, it does not seem to be bad enough to see the dr. I do run and until recently it has never bothered me,

Sore knee can be so many things - I've had knee problems from soccer for 25 years. If it feels unstable at all you should have it checked out. If it is 'just' sore you can probably follow the various suggestions you've seen here. If mine is sore I wear an ace bandage brace (not neoprine, it's just basically made out of similar material as an ace bandage but is just a pull on sleeve) and apply Aspercreme (or some other topical medication that has a pain killer in it... menthol/icy hot by itself doesn't do anything). Note the brace doesn't protect your knee as much as it reminds you to behave on it. :)
