When using a measuring cup, does the serving size (1/4 cup usually) mean loose in the cup, or somewhat compacted- as if it was solid cheese?

Do you have a food scale? That's the only way to measure shredded/chopped things accurately.0

This is why I weight. Cup measures of anything you can compact are so arbitrary, you could be eating 3-4 times MORE by compacting than putting in loose...0

Food scale it. I hate admitting it, but using the gram measurements almost always yields better results. I adjusted and now prefer it. If youre insisting on using cups, I would play it safe and go "loose" not packed.0

A scale is ideal, but if you don't have one just put it in the cup without compacting or smashing it down to get more.0

I've been thinking about getting a scale. Thanks all!0
